Painting Ghosts

I paint ghosts the super-easy way:

- Spray white

- Light Green Ink wash (now Thrakka Green wash I guess)

- 1-3 stages of soft drybrushing white to achieve varying blending of green to white

I got the idea from the Lord of the Rings style ghosts, and the painting tips in those sourcebooks.

I'd put up pictures, but naturally I haven't taken a single photo of any of my ghostly things. Perhaps this weekend I can show one.

If I do end up with ghost knights (probably won't) then this is how I'll be painting them as well.

Nice!

I was thinking of blue instead of green, I wonder how that would turn out?

Like translucent Smurfs? <_< Which would be fine as long as there wasn't a Daemon Prince Gargamel running around...

In all honesty though, when you mentioned ghosts the techniques from the LotR army of the dead was the first thing that came to mind. It aught to work just as well with blue instead of green, or perhaps a grey.

I wonder if you could cast minis in clear epoxy resin. :o

course you can. there was alimited edition clear frodo to represnt 'invisible frodo' a good few years back

another way you could do it is slather it in tamiya clear...dunno what it would look like in you did it a too a whole model....but it does a decent enough kinda of slime/ecoplasma effect (yes i did rob that word from ghostbusters :P)

Maybe this sohuld be a PCA forum question, but as the mini's this is aimed at will be ours, I thought I'd start here.

How do you plan to represent the Ghostly retinue of Grandmaster Mordrak?

Any nice tips for getting ghostly or etherial looking minis? :/

Hehe.

This is how I'm going to do it:

White primer

Boltgun Metal heavy drybrush

Wash with badab black

Mithril silver drybrush

Then just do the eyes (enchanted blue, blue ink, icy white..etc)

Why this method? Cause I can play them as Ghosts for now, or continue to paint them as regular Knights if I don't like them ^_^

Years ago I've seen some Vampire Count Banshee Painted in a gosthly way that truly look amazing.

The guy who painted them use a reverse highlighting method who relly make the look like spectre!

Basically they were painted in the same way as the LOTR method mentionned before, but he the color gradint was reversed : the clearer was in the recess, and the darker where you normally put the Highlight.

Tchezz.

I knew this Thread will come......... :) :) ;) ;)

Someone was faster...... ;) ;)

I'm with HERO

will likely do it the same way, but without Mithryl (well will try it first)

So you all will use "aktual" GKT's as Ghosts??

My Plan is to use the Classic ones........will look pretty fine.

With correct 25mm.. Base and so on.....

Heh I thought that was a green stuff sculpt and I was like Holy... but yeh, it's a lovely colour for them.

I'm torn as to whether or not I'll paint a squad of ghosts of just use regular painted GKs, seems almost like a waste to have a whole squad who can only be ghosts... especially given 5 GKTs will probably be £30-35

Hmm

(EDIT: Just saw Hinti's pics after I posted.) Looks pretty good, Hinti. I like your use of the 'Old School' GK Terminator.

I just came up for air from work and back to the B&C after a long hiatus. I'm very interested in painting some Ghost Knights after reading about them in Rumors.

I was thinking of something fairly simple...black armor with silver trim as a highlight, plus glowing green eyes (if I can pull off a glowing effect successfully.)

Its a great colour for the Ghost knights:

Prime with Chaos Black

Heavy drybrush with Shadow Grey

light drybrush with Space Wolf Grey

Wash with Tharakka Green

soft Drubursh with Space Wolf Grey

soft Drubursh with Space Wolf Grey + Scorpion Green (75/25)

soft Drubursh with Skull White + Scorpion Green (75/25)

soft Drubursh with Skull White

All Weapon arms have magnets and can be swapped or repositioned in seconds.
