Fire Lords

hey all! so i have been thinking of doing a new army call the Fire Lords. they are a codex army but i will be using the blood angles rules for them. yes i did join the band wagon, but Fire Lords are red and yellow and the blood angles have a lot more flamer options than any other army. the only thing is i dont think im going to be using any death comp. ya their a sweet troop choice, i just don't think they fit with the army. i will come up with a reason later why the chapter does not field them in battle. but anyways here are some pics. tell me what ur thoughts are,

now this guy will be my captain. i am trying to do non-metallic golds. i am painting the same as the rest of the army the only difference is the gold will replace the yellow.

Anything that can get a flamer will be in my army. so yes a redeemer will be in my army. not to sure how im going to paint the tanks yet..

yellow.

well i don't start with browns. white undercoat is key. then a good yellow ink. i usually yellow ink anything i want yellow right over the undercoat. or u can water down the yellow u want to use for a glaze. i usually do about 2 coats of yellow ink first. then i start with mixing a touch of snakebite and golden yellow. all u want to do is darken it up a little. base it with that mix and then start highlighting with golden yellow itself. then i use sunburst and bad moon yellow to high light it. my final high light is a mix of white and bad moon. i then go back with a mix of flesh ink and yellow ink in the recesses.

Agreed with all of the above. The reds are solid, and the yellow really makes the models pop. Undoubtedly, this is one of those schemes where I'd be chewing my own hands off just to have an excuse to stop fighting my brushes :o

Superb freehanding on the shoulder symbols, by the way.

I've always wanted to see a nicely painted fire lords army. I'll be tracking this thread. Lovely yellow and red. Love that termie. The mix of black per their scheme and how you've done it really works.

Absolutely positive 299% agree with this, why work up off black with brown when you get good bright colours off a white undercoat and it looks ace. Plus its tons easier to blend shade colours down than to highlight up!! also adding any dark areas to the mini is hasle but the clean result is more than worth it.

These are ace, real nice work Sugar-free I will be looking out for more of these from you. Cant wait to see the tactical squad if this is anything to go by.

lol. i was waiting for that question. i tried everything, but black hands on the tactical marine just did not look right. so i decided that only men in leadership would have black hands. they are the lords of who they command. so all tactical marines would have red hands except the sergeant. he would have one red hand and one black. the only ones with two black hands will be the elites. like termies and veteran squads. well, something like that. im still working on it all. im glad ur paying attention Lord Ragnarok.

this might help alittle. i mix only a very little of the brown ink into my yellow ink for my first glaze over my white undercoat. i just paint it where im going to have yellow armor. after that glaze dries i will usually put on another coat of the glaze. then i water down my golden yellow and start putting it on. after i get a good coat of golden yellow on i go back with that same glaze and hit the recesses.

this is just a pick of those stages

then i just start my highlights. the golden yellow is the hardest part of it all. once you get that golden yellow right the rest is cake.
