Those present; His Worshipful Servant Captain Gaius Stilicho, His Worshipful Servant Chaplin Jubeal Hadex, His Worshipful Servant and Master of the Forge Angelis Sinclair, His Worshipful Servant Liberian Angelus Sekundar.

Recorded by Liberian Angelus Sekundar,

We gather here in this room to record our campaign progress for His Year 997.M41, this being the 7th year of our departure from blessed Baal. Our mission, to eliminate and police heretical and piratical activities in the Prassrum Subsector has been determined null and void and was terminated during 700997. We realise that our actions must be explained, for we feel the eyes and thoughts of our brothers and betters upon us and are keen to excise our deeds of the sin of miscalculation. During our purge of the 3rd moon of Barbous our force found itself upon the brink of extinction when the cultists of said moon conjured daemons most dreadful in their aid. Though the cultists died of their exertions they had birthed a force ten score their number of evil beings and we found ourselves trapped. However to our aid a force of battle brothers appeared the likes of which none of this company has ever seen. They adorned their armour with skulls and the flame and they smote the enemy fiercely and utterly. After a theatre engagement of 24minutes and 16.6 seconds our allies departed, leaving neither any casualties nor any sign of their presence. Brothers Chaplin Jubeal and Liberian Angelus were most perturbed, being fearful of our battle brother’s souls and the presence of evil things.

We continued our vigil against possible taint, but we discovered nothing and continued along our mission parameters. It was during a boarding of the star vessel The Eternal Hope, a most deplorable ship of traitorous medical scholars and pupils, that we met our ghostly brother again. Our party was to set about its work when to our surprise we found it already achieved, the ships company was slain, and their foes were the very brothers who had aided us some 5 months earlier. These ghosts disappeared before our eyes, but before they did one of their number spoke, he said only “find us in the cradle of Sanguinus, find the Emperor at the eternity gate;”. Now all Adeptus Astartes know of the Eternity Gate, and all Blood Angels know of the cradle of Sanguinus, the world where our beloved Primarch first felt the satisfaction of war. Our battle brothers were adamant in their belief in these ghost warriors, whom they insisted were the infamous Legion of the Damned and this present council of four gathered to debate what action to take.

So we left our mission parameters, following the exemption guidelines set down in the holy codex, and travelled to the Cradle of Sanguinus, the now dead world of Ajax in the Yvanne Sector. We respectfully ignored the Holy Inquisition’s ten millennia cordon of the planet; the virus’s bombs which annihilated all life on it during the Great Heresy are of little threat now, and we calculated our new mission to be of too great an importance. Once planet-side we found many grave things, memories of the great heresy, which triggered a number of our force to be lost to the black rage, that they had to be put down will burden this council for time infinite. We did however find what we were looking for, a bunker complex, left undiscovered for ten millennia, buried under the ruins and corpses of a forgotten time. We penetrated its walls and ancient defences, and found the emblem of a lost and forgotten legion. Their bunker was a museum of that time long ago; we found many items of technology both arcane and wonderful, which were taken into the care of Brother Angelis, Master of the Forge. We also found bodies, brothers in purple armour who had died long ago, their condition left us all uniform with a feeling which lesser men must call unease, or nervousness, though we are ashamed to admit it, as all the bodies were preserved, as if they had died but yesterday, and they were laid most peaceful, as if they had passed away in sleep, not by the chemical purging of viral Armageddon. One power signature remained, a transmission and a beacon. It was a dire warning that the arch traitor whose name shall not be written had turned against the Emperors light, and that in lieu of this the legion would muster on the planet Munkendar. Obviously the warning had come too late. The beacon showed Munkendar’s location to be that of the planet Dartmundar in the Segmentum Solar, which Liberian Angelus reviled had in ancient times gone by a different name.

We made the rites of the dead and stripped the bunker of its valuables, and then we set out for Dartmundar, a world over four sectors and 2 years of warp travel away. We arrived 2 months ago after 3 months of standard time progression and made negotiations with the 6th company Ultramarines, noble if unimaginative warriors, who we knew were operating in the area. They surprise us by showing as much mistrust towards us as lesser men do, we sense their fear of our blood, and it saddens us. Nevertheless in return for their good conduct and aid they accepted several of the technological relics we liberated from Ajax which we dutifully handed over, they seem as interested in finding out the secrets of the damned legion as we do. Two weeks ago we made planet fall, having tracked the beacon signal to a thousand kilometres square area of land in the northern hemisphere and we appear to have landed in the middle of a civil war between the governor and some heretical prophet. One week ago vox transmission from the Ultramarines based cessed, we hope their mistrust does not lead to foolishness.

And so we come to the present, we hope our actions will not earn us damnation, but a place in legend and song, for we hope that this world will reveal the secrets of the legion of the damned, but not just that, we also wish, secretly, that we will find “the emperor at the eternity gate”. Perhaps this riddle will be explained to us; perhaps we will find a weapon with which to strike at the foes of man.
