General Questions

Actually Max, I would argue that arbitrary (and questionably random) questions require (nay, demand) arbitrary (and also questionably random) answers.

Bright pink.

Arjac must be fielded once (and only once) per fortnight, and Canis must only be fielded if the moon is full.

Seriously, we need more information. What color is the rest of your army? Any particular Great Company? What about existing pack markings/etc. And we can't tell you to field Canis or Arjac without knowing what is in your army already and how you tend to play it.

I'm puzzled by the colour question ... surely you want to go with the same colours you already have used. (Or did you buy some of them painted?) If so and you have no paints, I'd say ... Space Wolf Blue, a nice yellow, red, silver, black and white.

I don't really see who Canis could join in your army (being cavalry) - so I would think you want to go for Arjak.

(Sorry DV8 - couldn't help myself)

Just for fluff reasons, I'd prefer Arjac to be painted up in Logan Grimnar's great company scheme. He is Grimnar's champion after all. He can fight with any other great company,a s he is deployed along with any of the great companies at the great wolf's whim.

Paint Canis however you wish. I've seen far more counts-as models of him than the actual model (not many people like the giant rabid Pomeranian)

I agree with Newobmij regarding Arjac. However, when I painted mine, I tried to keep his blacksmith background in mind.. even so far as to assume that perhaps he was an aspiring iron priest prior to becoming Logan's champion, and subsequently gave him a bionic arm b/c iron priests sacrifice their hand to the gods in return for a bionic replacement.

As for Canis, I'm painting mine snowy white-highlighted space wolf grey with burnished gold trim and red accents/gems. His shoulderpad "heraldry" of the wolf skull I plan to do as a rusted chainmail metal on a dark black/red background.

What a strange original post and follow up post. Svein, people can't really help you properly when you leave out vital information. I am not sure if you are asking about general army colors, or how to make specific characters stand out.

If general, most people go either Space Wolves "Grey" blue (blerch) or the more sensible Codex or Adeptus Battle Grey track. Look up examples of each online and see what you like.

I use shadow gray as base color. but as said here you can also use grays like codex gray. just have a look trough the gallery and see what you like the most, if you link the image in here i'm sure we can help you figure out what colors they are.

Right, my whole army is not painted and I wanted to know a good general colour

Have a look trough this topic

See what style you like and give us the post number, we'll have a go at the colors.

Dont worry about it, most is in fun and games, the ones being an ass are known and taken note off :woot:

The colour you point to look like shadow gray or a mix of shadowgray and spacewolf gray to me

Mine is shadow gray pure, but i'm starting to wash black to get them darker

Left is shadow with no mix, right is with wash

There are more pages in that thread, make sure you have a good look, its a cool and inspirational thread

A higher base or adding some hight to the model (plastic card under the feet) and lots of decoration gold and what not.

There are lots of fantastic bits in the new SW box to decorate your lord

Well I don't have tons of bits because i bought everything off ebay :P i got a few sprues and a stick of green stuff, an idea i had was to wolf up a Marneus Calgar and give him some hair and get rid of the ultramarine stuff ,would it work? ( the main reason is i love the size and i don't know another way to get that without a thunderwolf)

A good (sometimes vague) system that I have developed over the years is something I've dubbed the Hierarchy of Bling. The concept is quite simple, really. The higher the rank, the more the bling!

The simplest is armor design and ornamentation, especially with Space Wolves. The older and more veteran their status, the older and more ornate their armor will look. Details like overlapping plates of armor, or just changing the overall "shape" from the more familiar look of your generic Rank and File is a subtle way to add detail that differentiates your characters from your infantry.

Additionally, things like armor trims, wolf tails and talismans, chains, runes, gems, etc. The more you add on, the more ornate/detailed/bling-tastic your characters will look.

Something you can also use is a cloak or a cape, or a suitably impressive weapon and/or dynamic pose that separates them from the more mundane peons underneath them, and by subtly elevating their base so they stand a little taller, you can make your characters "pop" out from their minions.

Lastly, don't be afraid to use freehand or suitable detail work achieved through painting to further differentiate your characters. Painting a unique pattern on a kneepad or shoulderpad could be the difference between a mighty Grey Hunter, a mightier Wolf Guard, or the mightiest Wolf Lord!

thanks, i think i might paint some nice pattens on my wolf guard and make my rune Priest taller  and when is it acceptable to bring a wolf lord in or should i get Arjac Rockfist? and i find my men are dying (losing a full squard and a half by the first turn is over). i play against imperial guard and necrons and the just rip up my men with large blast weapons that are AP 3 how could i prevent this?
As a former necron player, and now proud member of the fang I feel very qualified to give advice vs 'crons. Large blast with ap means only one thing: monolith. The trick with the mono sounds very silly, but trust me. The way to beat the mono is to ignore it. Use rhinos/pods/cavalry to close the gap on the necron warriors asap. About 2 squads of hunters should be enough to kill all his warriors. So take enough extra bodies to assure that 20 or so marines end up in the fight, of course more is better. Keep in mind that sweeping advances negate wbb rolls, unless there's a lord with res orb. So kill the lord first. Also remember that unless there's a like model in 6" they don't get wbb. That means if you drop the last warrior or destroyer, they stay dead.
