The Guardians and Brair

I want this to be more than a DIY Chapter. That is why I am making a codex for them as well.

I will set the basics for now of the chapter due to the fact that I have no time. (sigh)

1) They do not folly the codex. They do not use it unless they need to explain their actions to another chapter.

2) They are a crusading chapter that produces enough supplies and troops to man 5 crusading fleets every decade.

Each fleet holds 120 marines, over 150 Neophyts (pardon spelling) and 5 IG regiments. Combined, the IG regiments are called the Caldierian 22nd regiment.

3) There are no phykers (pardon spelling) in the chapter, due to mistrust of unstable beings

4) There are no plasma weapons used by the chapter, due to the mistrust of their unstable plasmid coars

5) All Marines have special ammunition, due to the manufacturi

Okay, honestly, first response is "These are a little uber".

Why do they not follow the codex? A lot of people misinterpet "Not following the codex" to mean "Not organised like the codex says" but it also has a lot more to it than that. Have they completely moved away from the codex or is it simply an organisational change?

Top wording is a little confusing. Do you mean there are 5 Crusading Fleets or do you mean they start 5 new ones every 10 years? If it is the latter, then that is way too often and too many. Marines can and usually live to aroun 300 years old, so you are looked at 30 Crusade Foundings, thats 150 Crusades, which is 18000 Marines, that is 18 Chapters worth. Also, the IG regiments attached to them is against the Imperial laws on combined forces. They might be on the same Crusade but they will not be under the command of each other - they are both separate forces merely helping one another.

Psykers. Presumably they allow the same loophole as the Black Templars of "We don't use psykers unless we want to" so for Navigators ;)

"Special Ammunitiion" you will need to explain more or it really does come across as "My chapter is uber."

Are you attempting to make a crusading force made of many chapters or is this meant to be a crusading chapter?

4) There are no plasma weapons used by the chapter, due to the mistrust of their unstable plasmid coars

This does call into question exaclty how they power their starships though... And a fleet-based chapter who outfit a new crusade fleet of significant size (as yours would be with that many marines, plus IG troopships, plus escorts) ought to be fairly familar with how Plasma cores work. Terminator armour was developed from the suits used by starship engineering crews who had to enter and repair Plasma drives...

Quote the Octaguide:

Understand what the Codex is and isn't

The Codex is more than a book of organizational advice (though it is that). It's more than general tactical precepts. It's more than accounts of battles. It's more than careful analyses of enemy tactics. It is the life's work of countless Imperial soldiers, philosophers and military scholars. It has been improved for ten thousand years. Your chapter may believe that they know better than it, but it would be virtually impossible to actually create something better - after ten thousand years of development, most of what needs to be added to the codex are reactions to new phenomena.

The Codex can be followed in any number of different ways - any and all parts could be ignored, misinterpreted or considered outdated. The point is that the book is so massive and overwhelming that discarding it wholly would mean discarding almost the entirety of the Imperium's knowledge on warfare and starting afresh. Your chapter might well reject the organizational methods and standard tactics of the Codex, but they'd be unlikely to also throw out the treatises on how enemies fight and the various philosophical perspectives on warfare and combat. Sun Tzu's Art of War has remained relevant even thousands of years later, and the Codex was more complete, thorough and in-depth even when it was first compiled.

In short, have a clear idea of what the book is before you decide if you're going to get rid of it, and ensure that the reasons for doing so are justifiable.

Don't throw out the Big Book just because you hate the blue boys or whatever.

Why do they follow this organization?

5 IG regiments. Combined, the IG regiments are called the Caldierian 22nd regiment.

No. Space Marines govern themselves but are not allowed to command IG. You are breaching the traditional separation of powers.

All Marines have special ammunition, due to the manufacturi

Why?
