CoyoteGospel
Been working to alter my army since last month's FAQ and finished just in time for a tournament I'm in tomorrow. Here are some (not so great) photos of the army. Belial with Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield: Apothecary and Standard Bearer: Command Squad: Ravenwing: Land Raider: Army: (My painting style will never win me a Golden Demon, but the goal was to paint as quickly as possible while still maintaining some level of quality - maybe just above "table top quality" ;) ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223415-my-dark-angels/ Share on other sites
Wolf Priest Haelaeif
Very cool army. I like your no-nonsense conversions, the apothecary and standard bearer are really fine, and Belial isn't too shabby either, although I'm not a fan of the green tabard. I think your painting style, while indeed not for a golden daemon, is perfectly fine. I'd be happy to play against an army like that. I am striving for exactly the same compromise between quality and quantity/speed. Thanks for sharing! shortysl
I'm jealous ;) I've only just discovered the wonder that is ink-washing after 14 years in the hobby and it's inspired me to update and improve the paint jobs for my Dark Angels. I'm still working on my highlighting skills but i see you've done yours in a very 'loose' manner and it looks good. If i can get my models looking even half as good as yours i'll be a happy man. Isiah
This is a very good looking army despite some rather less than prefecto pics :D . I like your deep black shadow style very much, and the 'painterly' application of your paints. The banner is awesome and pretty well sums up your painting style in one hit. Bases are nice and gritty too. BTW that big book as Belial's storm shield is frankly outrageous -- *Note: I must steal that*. Can't find much to fault here. Some of the paint on the Raider looks a bit thick but that's a minor issue, and teh highlights on the RW look a bit heavy-handed. But honestly en masse this looks a very impressive collection to take to a tournament so congrats. Let us now how it goes -- you have a pretty interesting army list there. Tanhausen
Simple, tabletop and very decent ;) Let us know how it goes! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223415-my-dark-angels/#findComment-2671841 Share on other sites
Brother Aimoku
I also adore the SS on your Belial. The book looks perfect, nice work on the rest. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223415-my-dark-angels/#findComment-2671856 Share on other sites
bdawalt
Very nice... I'm a fan of both your army's looks and its composition. Please be sure to let us know how you do... I've been thinking of running a list very similar to yours. CoyoteGospel
Thanks for the positive comments and feedback everyone - it is much appreciated! Will keep you updated on how things go this weekend... Fingers crossed! Brother Isiah - You're right, the paint IS a little thick on the Land Raider. I have to admit that it was my first time painting a tank that large AND I (admittedly) rushed the early stages of it. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223415-my-dark-angels/#findComment-2671947 Share on other sites
HsojVvad
I don't think Belial should have that book on him. If you keep him in reserve, he will not show up until turn 5 because he has too much reading material. :P. Very well done, good job. Zincite
I don't think Belial should have that book on him. If you keep him in reserve, he will not show up until turn 5 because he has too much reading material. ;). No, it is not for simply reading... It is for writing down the names of the foes he has slain!! Very nice job, I particularly like the Ravenwing, and the freehand on that banner (assuming it is?) is really impressive. I notice that you've given the Bikers green bolters, it looks much better than Red. *Stolen* :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223415-my-dark-angels/#findComment-2672242 Share on other sites
Brother Baphomet
Very nice job. They look great as a group. I like the book on Belials storm shield, 'my faith will protect me' kinda thing :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223415-my-dark-angels/#findComment-2672295 Share on other sites
The Shadow Guard
In my book that is an excellent army. very nice work on the conversions and composition. Good luck with the tournament. Love to hear how you went. SG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223415-my-dark-angels/#findComment-2672584 Share on other sites
CoyoteGospel
Well.... Let's just say the tournament didn't go exactly as planned :) Went 2-3 overall with some of the worst dice rolling imaginable.... "Make 5 2+ armor saves? No problem" ::rolls dice:: Oh, four 1's. Lost round 1 vs a killer Mech Guard army. Lost round 2 against a Salamander's army that drop podded 3 Ironclad dreadnoughts behind me (that was fun!), and lost round 3 vs Chaos Marines (darn game ended 1 turn too early - 1 more turn would've allowed me to clear it out everything that was contesting the objective and delivered me victory). My luck then turned as I defeated another Chaos Space Marine army in round 4 that made the unfortunate mistake of underestimating Belial's command squad. Won round 5 handily against another Guard list. Overall, not a great showing but there's very little I would change. Got a lot of questions about why I didn't include more TH/SS and despite the fact that I wouldn't have been able to get any more painted in time (and the fact that it would've made some squads more resilient), I like the flexibility of having *some* shooting. In fact the meager 3 SBs/squad actually made a difference for me on more than one occasion, providing the extra wound or two I needed to get the job done! The Shadow Guard
Great to hear that. wining two games is very good especially as you didn't go the Spamhammershield way :( . Glad to hear that you felt that the 3 Sbs did actually ake a difernece.... Personally I just think a load out of mostly Th/SS is in keeping with the spirit of the DA/DW as they mostly espouse tactical acumen and flexibility... but I am sure many will disagre with me. However, well done on getting the army painted in tie for the tourney and having a good time. Love to hear the opposing FOCs... Zincite
Yeah, what Shadow Guard said. Just taking what wins, rather than what suits the army, goes against the whole 40K 'Just have fun' thing' ^_^ Anyways, sounds like you lost more to bad dice rolls than anything else. Again, very good job on the models  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223415-my-dark-angels/#findComment-2673779 Share on other sites
