LoneSniperSG
Looking over the entry in the codex. I love throwing out Autocannons on my Dreads, so I'm wondering if the Twin-Linked heavy Bolters are also a good option for firepower? I don't play many hordes so Assault Cannons aren't much use to me. Seems like the 36-inch range of TL-HB's might benefit me more. Anyone have experience with the many options our Dreadnoughts get? Well if you think the Assault Cannon is not worth it I´m pretty sure you will not find the HB worth it since it´s even more anti-horde. Assault Cannon atleast has a chance to damage all kinds of armor. The best pairing for an Autocannon is usually another autocannon, making the dread very good against light transports and medium infantry. True, but I learned last game that a Dread with its Str 10 fist is a very valuable one. Sarapham
Depends on what role you have in mind for it. Autocannon usually means fire-support which makes the second gun a good choice, but with multi-melta/assault cannon/HB he should be up close and personal which means the fist and flamer will be very handy. WG Vrox
The deal with a TL HB on a dread is the HB is much easier weapon to come in a army then say a mounted PC or AC. Meaning if you wanted a HB for your list add a RB, Land Speeder, even some Long Fangs with HB is a very viable option, or half a dozen other units that are able to take a HB. To me dreads are either going to be held back and protect the back field dealing out AC or LC death or up on the front lines smashing things, only time I have taken a PC is with Bjorn for obvious reasons, BS 6 makes me smile when I roll the deviation dice. My favorite option for a dread is the trusty ol' AC/HF combo. Sven Dragonfire
As Sarapham noted, It really does depend on what you intend to use the Dread for! If you dont play against horde armies then a twin linked las cannon is great for , taking out enemy armour or Characters especially as it can move and fire. If you intend to drop it close to the enemy in a pod then the multi melta will take out armour, 8 + 2D6 at a range of 12" and the heavy flamer can ruin an infantry squads day. If its the remains of a Longfang hero interned in the sarcophagus then you might want to use a twin linked las and Missile launcher, it would lose its strength in CC, but gives great covering fire and anti tank capabilities. Im with WG Vrox, the heavy bolter is a waste on the dread. Good hunting LoneSniperSG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223434-dreadnought-tl-heavy-bolters/#findComment-2672421 Share on other sites
LoneSniperSG
Hm. The only reason I considered the TLHB's was because I find the Assault Cannon to be too short of range. I could be totally wrong though, since I don't often use the things. I'll have to switch things up next game. I tend to keep my Dreads in the back, but if they're up front with the infantry and that nasty Str 10 fist plus AC, maybe I can make me a blender! Are Heavy Flamer arms popular? Seems like a one-two thing to me. Heavy flamer on the DCCW, heavy flamer on the other side. Broil until crisp.
