mercury
I finally finished my Storm Raven conversion for my Lamenters army. My mission was to improve the look of the model. In my opinion the dorsal turret and vent, and nose-mounted weapons give the GW model a really odd-looking silhouette - something which I sought to change. After cutting out the middle section of the top plate and reversing it, applying a new turret based on the Forgeworld Razorback lascannon one, plasticard-ing over the nose weapon mount, and re-mounting the twin-linked multi-meltas; I have produced the following: http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab87/mercury82_photos/Lamenters/DSCF1241.jpg?t=1298749490 http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab87/mercury82_photos/Lamenters/DSCF1239.jpg?t=1298749528 http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab87/mercury82_photos/Lamenters/DSCF1236.jpg?t=1298749528 http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab87/mercury82_photos/Lamenters/DSCF1242.jpg?t=1298749603 The conversion is far from perfect - a superglue explosion made a complete mess of the model during construction and I have struggled a little to hide the evidence of this. Nonetheless, I am very happy with the appearance of the model (a definite improvement on the GW one, IMO) and my paint scheme. C&C welcome as usual. - Mercury
Typical Cricket
This is probably the best 'raven conversion I've seen so far. And I'm really only throwing the word 'probably' in there for kicks. Great job!
vharing
I love what you did with the multi meltas. They look way better where they are with yours. No matter whose model it is though, I dont like the top turret. I assembled mine with stanard turret, and I have seen a lot of really good conversions. In my mind the top turret would look way better if it was chin mounted, except then the front ramp is in the way.
Red Fury
Very nice Mercury! I didn't know you were doing Lementers now... I'd really like to see a top down pic of the raven to see the turret and how you covered up the hole. Great conversion and great paintjob too! :D
Mr Perceptive
I've not been a fan of many of the conversions, but that one looks cool. I like the way that shrinking the cockpit glass area has made the whole ship look more imposing. Good work.

Captain Psycho
I love what you did with the top of the model - to me that's the worst part of the design (I don't mind the nose mounted weapons). When you say you cut out the middle section of the top plate and reversed it what do you mean exactly? I don't see the small ridge of plastic that frames the vent and turrent assembly, did you cut the ridge away or turn that cut out section upside down (I assumed by reversed you meant front to back but did you mean upside down?). Zealadin
Wow very nice! I downright hate the standard model, but actually find yours really really good! I might have to look into getting one now and converting it a bit
mercury
@ Red Fury: below is the top-down image you requested. As you can see, I have not filled the hole, merely repositioned it. Since Captain Psycho was also asking, I will try to use the Storm Raven sprue images to show how I did it. First I cut the top section along the red lines in the image to remove the section with the turret mount. I then rotated this piece (front to back) 180 degrees and stuck it back onto the model, to give the piece seen in the right hand image. I filled the regions circled in red with plasticard, and cut/filed off the ridge within the red oblong. http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab87/mercury82_photos/Lamenters/stormravensprue.jpg?t=1298793575 http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab87/mercury82_photos/Lamenters/DSCF1243.jpg?t=1298793575
Captain Psycho
The force is strong with this one. Thanks for the explanation mercury. The only downside I can see is that you've decreased the range of the turret mounted weapon by maybe 1" - 1 1/2" but this is such a massive improvement I have to wonder why it wasn't designed this way to begin with. Grizzly Adams
I really like it. Looks good, very clean. One wouldn't know it was a conversion if they weren't familiar with the original model
Brother Xeones
Nicely done. I think your turret conversion is one of the better ones I've seen. Good call on getting rid of some of that canopy glass too. Any chance we could get a top-down or three-quarter picture with the turret in place? The Yncarne
Have to agree with others that really like the turret. I'll have to look into this more when I get my Stormraven on the painting table.
vonny
really sweet conversion of the storm raven here. When I finally get around to build one myself, I'll definately get some inspiration from here!
1Drop
Love what you have done here, I'm yet to start either of my SR's yet (only as I haven't got them yet) but I may look into changing them a bit myself, I've been inspired.
