EtriX
I got the Assault on Black Reach pack by my amazing girlfriend, got it for the Terminators and the Dreadnought, so here is a paint logg that starts with them and move on to my regular marines. (Bear with me, if I'm rambling) Starting out unpainted. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-1.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-3.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-4.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-5.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-2.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-7.jpg and here is the Dreadnought primed and base painted. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-8.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-9.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-10.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-11.jpg Please comment and come with helpful ideas. Generating Random Name...
Not really much to say at this point, apart from good luck and stick with it! EtriX
So I've base painted for the bone and scrolls and done the first layer of highlights. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-14.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-12.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-13.jpg (Sorry for the bad picture quality, getting used to my girlfriends camera). Next up is touch ups and 1:1 DA and Snot Green. EtriX
I'm adding a few pictures of my first Veteran, this was done a few days ago. So here is one I've prepared earlier. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/Veteran-1.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/Veteran-2.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/Veteran-3.jpg A little taste of things to come. Wolf Priest Haelaeif
Lookin' good so far, keep it up. Why did you paint the veteran's bolter green? I'd paint those parts in gunmetal. I like the red shoulder pad trim. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223573-etrix-dark-angels-paint-logg/#findComment-2674287 Share on other sites
EtriX
I liked the idea that veterans paint their bolters according to their colors. I use red trim and robes to show off veterancy. Regular marines will though have standard issue bolters. EtriX
Ok, here is todays dreadnought update. so mainly I've done some highlight touchups, added some boltgun to the metal parts and added both battle wear and bleached bone. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-15.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-16.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-17.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-18.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-19.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-20.jpg I've learned a whole lot so far, mainly that dreadnoughts are a pain sometimes if they are fully molded and that they are really fun to paint. EtriX
So, it's been a few days since my last update but I've almost finished the multi-melta. Here are some pics of that. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-21.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-22.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/blackreach-23.jpg But as a added bonus, I've created a whole new sort of character. What I did was this. I got a Black Templar Sword Brethren from a friend and decided that I wanted it for my Dark Angels. But since I already have a company master (I'm using the captain from black reach for that), I wanted to use it for something different. Enter the Watchers, my own corps within the inner circle, they watch the troops for signs of traitors and heretics. My Dark Angels are so paranoid about falling that they constantly watch their own steps. For all un-initiated they simply provide experience and a counselor to the company master. So here he is right now. I didn't like the idea of him having a chainsword so I gave him a powersword instead. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-1.jpg Here is a template of what I wanted it to be. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-2.jpg and here is the current result, I'll add some greenstuff later to anchor the head a bit more. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-3.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-4.jpg and here is GWs original, it took quite some work to get all the crosses of his armor. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/swordbrethren.jpg So... What do ya think so far? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223573-etrix-dark-angels-paint-logg/#findComment-2683575 Share on other sites
Durus
Good work on the conversion with the sword brethren. Though I think his left arm (plasma pistol) now has two forearms. Apart from that it looks really nice. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223573-etrix-dark-angels-paint-logg/#findComment-2683614 Share on other sites
Crimson Fisting
Yep, the terminator hand needs cut off at the wrist. You made it too long. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223573-etrix-dark-angels-paint-logg/#findComment-2683749 Share on other sites
EtriX
Thanks for pointing that one out guys. I didn't notice when I was working on it. Too into the creating process no doubt (let's not call it blind :D) I'll fix it as soon as I can. EtriX
I've updated the Watcher, shortened the arms (looks much better). Thanks for catching it for me. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-5.jpg I also added a Dark Angels crest on his right shoulderpad. I had to form it by holding it over a candle and gently bending it. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-6.jpg Hopefully, I'll get to painting it either tomorrow or the day after that. EtriX
The watcher is painted enough to get a feel for how I want it. Remember, this is my first power sword so I'm still trying to get the feel for lightnings. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-8.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-9.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-10.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-11.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223573-etrix-dark-angels-paint-logg/#findComment-2686744 Share on other sites
Dark Apostle Thirst
I think you used a poor choice of heads for the last conversion - he isn't shouting for his men, he's just raising his sword. Other than that, very nice, looking forward to more. EtriX
Here he is. The Watcher Suriel. The name Suriel comes from one of the Angels of Death. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-12.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-13.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-16.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/watcher-15.jpg next project will probably be termies. EtriX
So I've started out with my DW, first of all my AC/PF Termie and I'm trying a different shading technique this time with bestial brown and a thin layer of Bleached Bone, then wash with Gryphonne Sepia and lastly a thin layer bleached, leaving the creases to get a bit more natural shade. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/termie-1.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/termie-3.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/termie-2.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/blindrim/warhammer/termie-4.jpg I think I like this way of shading a bit more than the others. It seems a bit more natural and flowing. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223573-etrix-dark-angels-paint-logg/#findComment-2695739 Share on other sites
