Decoy
Okay, all. I'm just throwing these very, VERY rough ideas out there for a start. This is my first DIY post, so please be gentle. :( I'd just like feedback based on the ideas for the Chapters themselves. I wish I had time to fully flesh them out for your enjoyment, and I hope that I can do so in the future. However, as it stands, I'm tired and half-drunk, but I want to get these ideas here so I don't forget them tomorrow. Cenobites of Ascension To put it bluntly, these Iron Hands descendants seek to perfect themselves with mechanical completion. However, having spent a bit too much time in the Warp (I'll actually come up with a good tale, I promise), the views of the Cenobites were slowly perverted to extend not only to their own bodies, but to the bodies of anyone they encountered. Having an abnormally high number of both Apothecaries and Techpriests, these Marines will, at the close of a battle, "offer" their "Services" to the local populace (if planetside) or use captured and incapacitated enemy combatants as test subjects for their continuing experiments in physiometalurgy. Seeking to recreate the metalized hand of their fallen Primarch in the hopes of once more ushering in a Silver Age of Mankind, the Cenobites gather technology and knowledge from any available source, be it Chaos or Loyalist. Their perverted views of "perfection", however, have left a bloody, mangled trail across the Imperium as loyal Imperial citizens and Imperial Guard find themselves suddenly (and rather violently) in possession of a new bionic limb or a half-functional implant. These acts of dubious generosity have led them to be declared Excommunicatus by the Forces That Be on Terra, officially labeled as a Renegade Chapter. However, far from allying with Chaos, these Marines still fancy themselves loyal to the Emperor and the Golden Throne... They just believe they serve in a different capacity, one that the Omnissiah has blessed (or cursed) them with. Thus, they continue to move from system to system, sustained by "recruits" of suitable calibre as dictated by an assembly known as the Equinox of Ascention, consisting of the Chapter's Apothecaries and Techpriests. Spiritual Leaders are Chaplains, and they are nearly a dime a dozen, preaching the blessing of the Omnissiah in place of the litanies of the Emperor. Combat Tactics: March forward behind wall of tanks Lay down massive mid/short-ranged firepower Utilize human-machine hybrids when possible (More on that later, but imagine the Thunderfire Cannon hybrid) Large number of Dreadnoughts Large number of Apothecaries Large number of Techpriests Mid-Large number of Chaplains Hounds of the Void I have less detail on these boys as a whole, but the general scheme is as follows: Space Wolf Great Company that has renounced its oaths of Loyalty to the Emperor and fight only for Russ Continue to search for Russ nonstop, as if on a Great Hunt Keep to the edges of the Galaxy and beyond, beyond the rim, believing (quite practically) that if Russ was in or near the core, he'd have been found by now Completely Jump Pack'd Believe that Russ will come to find them if they raise enough of a stink in the name of him Combat tactics: Deep Strike in, kill as fast as possible. They have to keep hunting; no time for dawdling If not Jump Pack'd, they go to battle on Bikes. If not on Bikes, they go to battle in Rhinos Large numbers of Jump Packers Large numbers of Bikers Large numbers of Rhinos Very few HQs/No Psykers (Psykers don't do so well beyond the rim, or at least, these ones don't.) No big tanks (Vindies, Land Raiders) Anyways... Sorry for the sparse details, guys, but it'd be great to get your thoughts on these two very different but (I think) very interesting concepts. It sounds like they have been infected by, if not the original Obliterator Virus, then maybe a DAoT equivalent. Infected on Mars or a dead world rich in technology. Fabius Bile undertones coupled with the the IH Mythos. One question. Being successors of the Iron Hands where did the Chaplains come from, there shouldn't be any just Iron Fathers. Decoy
Well caught, Ferrus. I'm afraid I'm woefully undereducated about Iron Hands: Iron Fathers largely were unknown to me until I just now did a bit of research. I'd love to use them instead of Chappies; they seem more flavorful anyways. Aye, I was thinking some sort of infection released on campaign, possibly even as a result of Bile's meddling (and in a sinister plot to lay low the Cenobites in the eyes of the Imperium.) Anyways, I hope to have more up tonight, when I'm done working on a few assignments. Thanks for the feedback, and I'll be piddling around with it all day today!
