there will be no mercy- Iron warriors.

Nice work on this army so far, I like the conversions and the painting works very well - I particularly like the subtle touch of giving the possesed some red shading, it makes them look like they'er being taken over from the inside-out, even as far as their armour :D Great stuff! :D

Update time:

I have started building spaceship bases for my Iron warriors, I've used all sorts of stuff I had lying around from different kits like the shattered remains of a skyshield landing pad that I have cannibalised for my titans.

First of is the first two of six bases for my terminators:

And one for my daemon prince:

I also painted the interior of my land raider, I went for a warm ochre colour as I've done a lot of grey interiors in the past which work great for tanks with a warm exterior colour scheme. Therefore I decided to reverse it for this one as the steel scheme it'll get is quite a cold one. I decided to leave the opus machina on the engine as to represent the dark mechanicus, in my opinion they wouldn't have changed their insignia as they still believe they're the true mechanicus. I got the idea to change the black/white scheme to an all black highlighted with jade green, the idea being that it symbolizes the dark mechanicus' belief that their way is the only true way of perceiving the omnissiah instead of the mechanichus' great schism of the omnissiah and the emperor being one and the same or two different entities.

Great job! I love the textured plasticard on the bases I must say, so consider that ida stolen!

For the record, the term 'lid' comes from British army slang. It is used to refer either to a helmet, or else to a beret. For example, 'earning your lid' is used in the Paras to refer to passing P Company and winning the right to wear the maroon beret of the parachute regiment. Recruits who have yet to earn their berets are referred to as 'hats' (which is also a derogatory term for someone who does something stupid or makes a rooky error.) Unrelatedly, telling someone to 'put a lid on it' is like telling them to shut up.

Here's a pip of my daemon prince, I still need some highlighting here and there, and some more work on the sword.

I also started work on my 5 man plague marine squad, I want them to be death guard marines as I think it'd be a nice touch to have them in a dirtied up version of their pre heresy paint scheme. Also I believe the Iron Warriors is somewhat sceptical of cult marines except for khorne worshippers, and that explains why these are death guard as they are allies, trading their services for some sort of personal gain.

here's a preview of the pip.

And finally I've slowly started work on my mk II and mk III suits, making a squad of chosen. These guys are the real deal, the actual traitors from the heresy, the really tough guys. The FW sets are amazing to work with, and the sm character conversion set is so cool !!!!

Here's a few pics.

I hope this isn't considered Threadomancy. The thread hasn't been updated in 8 days.

I just had to add... DAMN!

That Daemon Prince is pure awesome and I can't believe no one here has pointed that out yet!

Seriously. I love how you've gone for an all metal look for him but still giving the "fleshy" parts an organic look by glazing it with red-ish colours.

In fact, that Daemon Prince and the rest of your Iron Warriors totally makes me want to start a small force myself.

Do you think you could give me some info on how you painted that monstrous Daemon Prince?

Would really appreciate it

Thanks, and no the plog is by no means dead, I'm just working on different projects so updates will be irregular :P

I can only encourage you to start a force of your own as I find it to be an extremely satisfying army to build :cuss

The daemon price is basecoated in boltgun metal spray (black and then boltgun metal mixed would do fine too I think) giving it a very dark base colour, it was then highlighted with vallejo oily steel which is basically the same colour as boltgun metal and washed with thinned down vallejo smoke to give it a used look. I then shaded the more organic parts with thinned tallern flesh and washed t with a thin glazse of baal red wash. Then the armour was hihglighted with vallejo silver( equal to mithril silver).

The gold parts are vallejo brass washed with flesh wash ink and highligted with some silver added to the basecolour.

The yellow hazard stripes are lyindan darksun washed with vallejo transparent yellow and highlighted with vallejo yellow.

the pipes where panted in vallejo copper and washed with black ink.

the spines and the spikes where base coated in khemri brown, highligted with bleached bone and then white, then washed with devlan mud.

And finally the internal fire was painted with a macharius solar orange basecoat, highlighted vallejo yellow and washed in vallejo transparent yellow and the eyes where highlighted with white. Then some parts like the teeth was given a small drybrush of black to make them stand out.

I hope this helps :P

Really digging these Iron Warriors. All the colors are nice and crisp. Your Daemon Prince and Plague Marines are particularly captivating. Keep up the good work. Also, thanks for the multi-angle shot of the Warsmith because the front-on shot GW has on their site leaves a bit to be desired. The urge to get one and convert it into a Loyalist Techmarine is rising again.

Yeah they are really great, although a bit smaller than the newer minis (generally a problem with 2nd ed marines) and I'd much rather do an army of these than one of the new gw ones as they really such (there's a few good things about them but generally they stink) 2nd ed and the FW deathguard have a lot in common design wise, and the new plague marines just look like warped plastic mostly.

  • 2 months later...

Well it's been a while but I got some work done on my land raider for my iron warriors. I had painted a large portion of it by hand at first, but never was very satisfied with the result so I didn't take pics. Then after getting my airbrush I decided to start all over on the raider, and only leave the interior as I had hand painted it (mainly because it is all concealed after gluing, and the fact that I actually liked what I managed to do with the interior) and here is the result so far. I haven't applied any weathering yet, as it will be dirtied up to look like it's being used.

The LR was basecoated with vallejo oily steel, then shaded with vallejo black wash and hihglighted with a mix of vallejo natural steel and silver. The yellow is GW's tausept ochre and then highlighted with vallejo yellow with some transparent yellow added for some depth. The areas was then masked for the hazard stripes and vallejo black was applied, followed by a highlight from vallejo black with white added. This was all done by airbrush.

Then all the bras areas where painted by brush with vallejo's red gold from the liquid gold series (absolutely fantastic stuff btw) as this is a nice coppery gold colour which I think fit in nicely as a contrast to the cold steel tone.

The style is kinda inspired by BulldogUK's fantastic painting style, but will end up looking less clean after weathering.

I'm thinking about adding some verdigris to the gold/bronze areas, What do you guys think of that ? It'll be a subtle verdigris effect I think.

Okay on to the business!
