Przemas
Over a year ago I've decided to add a SM army to my collection. At first all went smoothly, but then somehow I couldn't find time to work on them - well, not until I got some proper motivation from fellow hobbyists. Work on them restarted and that's how they look so far: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/btemplar/scout.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/btemplar/dread_p1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/btemplar/dread_p2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/btemplar/dread_p3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/btemplar/tact1.jpg Sorry for some awkward positions on photos - I'll try to fix that on next pics ;). Some old WIP pics I've found: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/btemplar/day1_serg_face_close.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/bt_noweapons.jpg Currently I've started assembling next tactical squad. Should be fun :) . Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223749-black-marines/ Share on other sites

sharkio hereticus
Some really good paint there man! Putting anything I've done (and most of what I've seen) down! Also how did you get such good quality pictures? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223749-black-marines/#findComment-2675465 Share on other sites
Przemas
Thx guys ;) . The funny thing that most of the effect is down to simple technique - edge highliting. While boring at first it turns out pretty effective when you get a hang of it. @sharkio hereticus: the ones on the white background were doen in light tent. The wip ones were done on my desktop without any special lightning. While I still have some issues with pics so far it cames down to learning your camera and lots of patience :) . Firepower
I can't count the number of times in my painting history where I tried to accomplish that hairline-thin bluegray highlight on black to no avail......and you've got all this. Much respect. Everything looks awesome. Also, I never knew Wolverine was a sniper... ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223749-black-marines/#findComment-2676293 Share on other sites

Przemas
B) . @kanan: I've been a lurker for the past 2 years or so. No I regret I haven't started posting earlier :) @Firepower: again it comes with practice. Also I found that using your brush to your advantage may help a lot. Whenever possible I use side of hte brush to make such line not the tip. Here's a sample shot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/krawedz.jpg @GhostLegion: the head has been painted when I started the project, but luckily I made some notes :P . For the main color I`ve used p3 rucksac tan / rms fair skin / p3 khardic flesh mix. Khardic flesh was added mostly to give life to the main color (it has strong redish tint and red usually works this way). Shading with Gun Corps brown wasn`t that good idea - it was too light. I had to play with other colors. Also my typical problem showed - I`m not very good at shading. I`m used to starting from the darkest color and building highlights. But it is quite time consuming so once again I`ve painted middle shade and worked on shades and highlights - it`s much faster method. One of the 2 lessons I`ve learned - glazing some parts of the skin with catachan green is a good idea. I haven`t liked the results until I had started working on unshaved head (stubble???). The cool part with such speed projects is that I`m usually more open to experiments as I`m not that concernd about quality. Usually I paint stubble by glazing with grey color. This time I`ve painted a series of small, almost black dots before glazing. The results were nothing short but great! The irregularity that the dots create give a model sense of realism. Przemas
@ravenguard2010: check the post above. Let me know if you'd like to get more info. Next tactical squad ready for a basecoat. As usual I'll spray arms , heads and backpacks separately. I've noticed that I messed glueing in some places. But nothing bit of greenstuff wouldn't fix (normally I'd use different putty, miliput for example, but I had gs nearby). Mixed a tad too much - but counted that as an oportunity to make some quick conversions. Sculpted a skull on one of the knee pads. Also did a tattered loincloth - turned out rather clumsy as the putty was nearly cured. But that shouldn't be a major issue - the ones I did for the first squad were also messy, but when painted they started looking ok :) . Will try to make some pics on Monday. Przemas
that's how the 2nd tactical looks so far :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/btemplar/2ndsquad_1stwip.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223749-black-marines/#findComment-2679691 Share on other sites
Przemas
I'll bore you with another small update - hope it will be a tad more significant next time :D . Went to work on my marines at the workshop today. Well, turned out I had some crazy modelling and mouldmaking session for different project. But at least I did some more small conversions using putty that has been left. I was really happy how a small chain I've sculpted turned out - especially considering that my eyes really freaked out and I haven't seen much of the things I've been doing :P . Also I've searched my bitsbox for missing parts. Found some cool 3 torsos. Legs were a bit more of a problem - found only running ones. They do not work well with the rest of the squad but heck, I hadn't much choice - in the end I'll replace this fella later :). At the end of the day I've been able to prime the models :D. Hope to work on them during mid-sessions at the modelling workshop. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v342/Przemas_MMA/tact2_wip2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223749-black-marines/#findComment-2687815 Share on other sites
Przemas
Salute 2011 madness is over so I can continue the project :tu: I'm particulary happy with this pic as it shows how much 2nd highlight gives (as you can see highlighted and unhighlighted models) - both on the edges and the metallics.
