Astorath the Grim
Back when the current dex first came out I had been looking at starting a dark angels army to a company my blood angels, and I went with a Ravenwing army cause I love bikes. I'm currently looking at starting another ravenwing army and I'm curious if a Ravenwing with minor deathwing support is a viable option in 5th ed Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223750-da-question/ Share on other sites

RW bike all come with T Homers for a reason. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223750-da-question/#findComment-2675571 Share on other sites

pueriexdeus
Hmmm...well I'm thinking only 2 squads of DW in the elite slots myself I run limited RW with my DW contingent. Usually 3 DW Sqds with 1 RW Attak Sqd. Combat Squadding my RW gives me 3 THomer locations. All of which allow me the opportunity the Teleport into the locations I deem necessary. Now if you are using the heavy RW option which it seems as you want. Then remember that you will need to commit your bikes to prevent the DW from dying by ranged fire from the opponent. I usually use my entire RW Attack Sqd (divided, 3xBike, 3x Bike, 1x AB, 1x LS) too throw massive fire into the target, assault with one of the 3x Bikes and DS the DW. If done correctly none of the opponents units will be able to fire on the DW and they will assault into the RW melee. Then move your remaining RW units to screen the battle and repeat on the next OP unit. Keep in mind that this is only good on a flanking attack, not in the middle where the OP can swarm into the melee. You will want to keep the OP unable to respond. pueriexdeus
So now the question is how many points are you looking at fielding? At or under 1800: Sammy w/ 3x RW Attack Squadrons w/1x Sgt, 5x bikes, 1x AB, 1x LS. 2x DW Squads At or under 2000 add an Int Chappi on a bike. Either of these loadouts will allow PG's, Flmrs or MG's for your Bike Sqgd. The AB's can go with HB's or MM's. And the 3x LS's will be a snow shovel with AssCannons and HB's. The DW can be configured as you see fit. Work the flanks and isolated OP units. IanSturrock
If you can find the points to squeeze Belial in to your RW army with DW support, you make it a real headache for your opponent in any objective missions, because you can make an entire army of quite tough scoring units. Eg: at 1750 pts, you could have 10-11 scoring units, all of which would usually be Elite/FA choices and so can deliver real damage as well as scoring -- a total nightmare for your opponent! 130 Belial, Lightning Claws 205 Sammael (jetbike) 290 Deathwing Command Squad: 2 TH/SS, TH/SS/Apothecary, TH/SS/Cyclone, TH/SS/banner 235 Deathwing Squad: TH/SS, TH/SS w/ Cyclone 180 Ravenwing bikes: 3-man, 2 flamer, multimelta attack bike 180 Ravenwing bikes: 3-man, 2 flamer, multimelta attack bike 195 Ravenwing bikes: 3-man, 2 melta, mb, multimelta attack bike 310 Ravenwing bikes, command squad: 6-man, plasma, plasma, apothecary, multimelta attack bike 1750 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223750-da-question/#findComment-2676261 Share on other sites
Brother Kovash
I'm playing a heavy DW list right now, but I still find a way to include at least one full RW squad in my army. For support, you always have heavy support choices as well, don't forget about them. Of course, after a while the points start to add up. Have you started fielding an army already? pchappel
:-) I would have guessed OP = "Opposing Player", but I guess I spent way too much time in organizations using acronyms... Have to agree with most of the other posters, if you can fit both Sammael and Belial into your list, having a whole army of "scoring" units that would normally be Elite/FA can be a real pain for a lot of armies to face, especially in a timed tournament environment. I'm playing one at 1500 points (time/space constraints with the large gaming group at our local store more or less dictate this as the "maximum" size game we can regularly play), and it is pretty difficult to get all of the things I WANT into the list, but most of the locals here have learned the hard way that digging out a Deathwing squad sitting on an objective in cover is REALLY hard. In concert with the Ravenwing's teleport homers, you can get off a pretty impressive "alpha strike" against a lot of forces as well... Pure Ravenwing would probably be really fun to play, just lacking a bit of the resilience that comes with a Deathwing addition... :-) But I started as a DW player, so I'm a bit biased toward the Terminator armor...
