Dreadnought with Lift kit....

Recommended Posts

Ive never really been into dreads since ive always been mostly a chaos player but now that im into blood angels im going to make a few. i cant stand the stunted look it just goes against all ideas in my head of a properly proportioned robot. so here it is ive lifted my first dread and now im wondering what else i should do. i am thinking of making the shoulder armor plates wider and this guy is going to be a furioso librarian so i want to make it look like a venerable dread with the helmet/torso of the dead marine showing and have all the wiring and psychic hood. my problem is im not the best with coming u with fresh ideas i like to look at others work and kinda combine the multiple things i like out of all the stuff i favor. so if anyone knows some links to some good examples please shoot me the link to it. also any tutorials would be great as well. thanks.

think its too tall? i tried to scale him by the picture in the last vanilla codex where theres a picture of what looks like almost the entire chapter of ultras standing in formation. he seemed to be almost 3 times the height of the marines there and that looks proper imo.

Without any additional articulation, yes, it looks much too topheavy and ungainly. I'd either add another joint to him (making him look sort of like ED-209) or just shortening that extension a bit. Right now he looks about as maneuverable as a guy on stilts. I'm now picturing a Daemon Prince walking up to him, 'doink' -ing him with a finger and watching him fall back like a ceramite-encased oak tree.

I have done something similar before. I did not lift it quite as much as you. Here is a pic

Just a old prelim shot. If you want to see more I got a tutorial on my blog

If you could somehow enlongate the thighs and shins, it would be great. Right now he looks really stiff, definantly needs more leg articulation in the pose. I like it alot more than the standard dread, and you're definitely on to something, keep at it ;)

Hey ogre that's a nice tutorial I think I'll use some of that for the arms. As for the legs I do plan to cut the shins off to Ben the knees as well as beef up the hips and thighs. I just wanted to get an opinion on the height so I know what to work for. I'm also going to taper the tops of the shin guards so it doesn't look like he's wearing trash cans for armor

ok i finally got some times to get some real work done on this dread. i extended the thigh 3/8 inch and put bend in the knees to look like hes walking. the lift kit was made with tooth picks drilled out with wire reinforced then i added some super glue to the wood to let it soak up and harden. they were the only thing i could find that were the same size as the parts i cut out. i made the shin guards from armor plates from some spare defiler plates. i just cut out the spacer piece in teh center of it and then glued it together and cut some off the bottom. i plan to make this guy a librarian dread and hopefully can make his right arm look like hes casting some sort of power. ill probably extend the forearm as wel as make the fist somewhat more like the venerable dreads fist. ill use the normal dread force weapon arm for his left. i wanted to make a custom one but i just see it taking too much time and i have a lot more stuff to build. anyways feel free to comment.

i still have to do some putty work on the thighs and around the suspesion cylinders(tooth picks) as well as make hard points to mount the shin guards then ill be pretty much done on the lower half of this guy

ok so ive extended the powerfist arm and got a side shot for you dude. i decided that the sculpted fist is going to be a bit much for me right now. i plan to make 1 more libby dread later so ill do him up more with green stuff. right now i just have too much going on in real life and a lot of stuff i need to build so i gotta slow down on the heavy conversion stuff. once all the green stuff work i did sets tonight ill finish with the tubing/cables and then bolt on the libby front plate and arm and hell be done. besides making his base that is.

You have some nice greenstuff detailing skills. The larger things, like the thighs on the dread could use some filings. But your finger work and hard edges (like on that narthecium thing) are awesome. I'd like to see a close up of the apothecary piece too, that looks really well done.

This dread looks much better with the knee joint added, though I think you would have had a better time with more extension in the thigh and less in the shins. Too late for that now though! Do you think you could work on the rear leg's front toe a bit? Maybe have it bent up like how people really walk? I think that would add so much to the model. (and since you haven't added a base yet, its still a decent request)

The librarian looks awesome, Nice idea with the cable to the backpack. The pose looks really striking as well.

Thats really awesome, love your GS skills :) ! I like your side pose of the dread as it looks like an epic titan in a way. I like conversions with the plastic cylinders as they give it a real mechanical feel & they also look very effective :P !

orgres_liar: Liked your tutorial to making dreads bigger, awesome stuff :)

thanks for the all the great comments guys. now im just wondering if i should go codex rules and paint the libby mainly blue or figure out another scheme which i cant really fathom at the moment. if i go blue armor then what color should the wings be? what color should the mask be? i may just paint him in a scheme similar to mephiston.

Well, Mephiston and the Libby dread aren't painted solid blue, so I think it's safe to say you can paint your Libby as you please, as long as it's still WYSIWYG. Make sure to throw in some blue bits here and there (like maybe the main body of the left shoulder pad, the way normal Libbies do), otherwise you can keep the armour mainly red and paint the wings in whichever colour takes your fancy.

In fact, the Libby dread on the GW site has a pretty nice scheme that might look nice on power armour too. The Libby dread also has that sort of rictus mask thing. I like how GW paints those masks in gold. How about gold face, blue halo? It's supposed to be his psychic hood, after all.

I'll echo everyone else in the thread about your GS work, it's phenomenal. Can't say I'm a fan of the tall dread, but hey, it's your mini and not my place to badmouth it.
