Darkseer
Last week I received 2 dreadnought plasma cannons in the post. 1 wasn't formed properly at the back, so I had to return it for a replacement. Just got back from a 3 day stint working 'oop North to find that my SW doors had arrived and the front plate was warped at the top and had the consistency of rubber. I tried bending it back into place (bad idea) and while the top bent like rubber, the lower part of the cast (which was proper solid resin) snapped. Argh! Is anyone else finding that FW quality isn't as high as it once was? Don't get me wrong, their customer service was exceptional, but I'd like them to get it right the first time. Especially when we pay so much for postage. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223860-crappy-forgeworld-casts/ Share on other sites
Skarvald the Troll-faced
I cannot say, Wolf Brother. The only thing I have purchased from Forge World were 4-5 sets of Space Wolves Rhino Doors which, while slightly warped, were just fine when I put them in boiling water for a few seconds. However, I bought them from the little shop Forge World had over at the 2010 Games Day in Baltimore. Captain Juan Juarez
Don't get me wrong, their customer service was exceptional, but I'd like them to get it right the first time. Especially when we pay so much for postage. Trouble is, that would be more effortbecause of having to replace moulds more regularly.. Yeah, it isn't ideal but you get what you pay for in the end. Way1and
Sounds like your troubles have all been with larger pieces. I ordered three weapons packs and they all came out just fine (that's six sets of molds). Thunderhawk3015
Stuff like this happens, one thing to remember about resin is that its nowhere near as hardy as plastic, so a set of funky conditions can cause the resin to be weird like with your doors. Miscasts happen no matter how often you replace the molds due to any one of a number of variables, resin compound was slightly off, molds were not quite thoroughly cleaned, etc.. Random Warping also is a fact of resin, especially when shipped long distances. Miscasts happen with the GW plastic line too, but since so much of the plastic/pewter is sold compared to the Forge World resin, its not noticed as much because it is also much easier to get fixed. I can't say I have had the rubbery resin show up, but I have had miscasts show up on occasion, send it back, got the replacement that was correct. Or as Skarvald stated, used some boiling water if parts are slightly warped. Wulfenstein
You just had a bad shipment I guess. I ordered some stuff and got it on monday. Rhino upgrade stuff, icon packs, dreadnaught, and even some eldar shadow spectres. Everything turned out extremely well for me. Elaborating further, very little to no warpage at all and hardly any bubbles. Maybe I just got lucky but my previous orders have been just about the same but maybe with a little more warpage. I also agree on the boiling water, it doesn't have to be in long, just enough to heat it up so you can bend it back. SJumppanen
I also agree on the boiling water, it doesn't have to be in long, just enough to heat it up so you can bend it back. It doesn't need to be boiling hot. Tap water is hot enough (at least around here it is). Growler67
To deal with something warped like doors, the boiling water trick works or you can lat the piece on a hard flat surface and gently heat it up with a hair/blow drier. Don't press it down or mess with it, just heat it until it lays flat and leave it be to cool on it's own. FW is pretty good with their CS, if a piece gets shipped that is of poor quality otherwise messed up, they generally replace it. *I am NOT a spokesperson for FW* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223860-crappy-forgeworld-casts/#findComment-2677270 Share on other sites
Fred Johnson the 3rd jr
The dirty secret is that Forge World has horrendous quality control. Rather than give you straight pieces devoid of extra crap stuck to them, they sell anything and everything that comes out of their molds. And they charge a premium for it! Yay Forge World! Quillen
Sadly Fred is right. Still I love some fo their work and pay the extra for some pieces. While I sometimes wish I had not as I set to working with it and tring to fix things they never should have sent. But they know some of us will buy it.
