Kitchen Knife
I have to damit.. I hate those flesh-morphing-I'm-growing-guns-out-of-my-whatever-obliterators. So I decided (with some inspiration from the chaos subforum) to build my own oblits. So let's start... The base is a simple SM termi, so nothing special about that. I started to modify the assault cannon (six small barrels to three big ones) and the energy fist with a nice and cosy flamer. Then a little bit of extra armor... http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/8342/oblit1.jpg And I like cables... specially for the helmet and the flamer. The cables from the flamer will be glued to the small back pack. Oh and the armor was not extra enough. so some pieces here and there... http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/3203/oblit2.jpg In the next step I'll try to fix those small slits and scratches with some white stuff and glue this lucky guy on a base. More photos will come in the next two days Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223913-obliterator/ Share on other sites
Xeonic
Very nice work, though they could use a little chaosification(even just banding or some chaos arrows on the reinforced armor). Well, depending on the theme of the army of course. I too hate the flesh morphing all sorta of crazy guns sticking out everywhere approach. My own oblits are also made of terminators, albiet with a little different approach. I like your use of the chainfist and the plasticard extra armor, I hope you don't mind if I borrow both ideas as I build the rest of my squad(some of the torsos and legs of the chaos termies are literally *covered* in all seeing eyes, which I'll have to shave off anyways. Plasticard armor looks like a good solution to bulking up as well). EDIT: you've already commented on my oblit. Foolish me. Nice work though, I had considered using aobr termies as a super cheap option, but ultimately rejected it as too difficult to chaosify. Kitchen Knife
Well, I don't mind if you borrow the idea. Feel free to give your oblits some extra weight  I used plastic cards with a thickness of 0,5 mm for the "base armor" and for the stripes and the extras on the shoulder pad, cards with a thickness of 0,3 mm. Right now I'm collecting ideas to make them look more chaos related, WITHOUT putting spikes and more spikes on the armor. Maybe i'll use some of those gargoyle heads (the ones you get with every chaos rhino or pred) for a laser cannon barrel (and more cables!). Natanael
Looks really cool. Might use this as well for some "easy to do but very cool" honour guards for my SW. - Natanael Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223913-obliterator/#findComment-2678113 Share on other sites
Kitchen Knife
Small Update: The fist got a little bit pimped. Originally I wanted to glue a stormbolter on it, giving it some GK style. Well, the bolter was way to bulky (even for a oblit), so I decided to use some more plastic pipes. http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/1054/obl1.jpg Then some more details on the breast plate, the legs and GS to fill some gaps http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/6682/obl2.jpg And here is the current status. Head glued on and some basic paint on the miniature (the breast plate looks golden but is actually copper colored) http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5525/obl4.jpg Some more pics of the current oblit and his two brothers (who are in a very basic construction status) well come in the next few days. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223913-obliterator/#findComment-2680396 Share on other sites

I would put a plasma something on it (either Gun, pistol or cannon) and maybe swap those tubing for multi-melta canons Good Job! Kitchen Knife
Good morning from the current Oblit-Forge (aka. my desk) Current status: Problems with the pauldrons. Nothing some GS won't fix, but it's taking some time... Meanwhile I decided to have more than one Oblit in the army. So here is a small preview on some of the weapons. http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3248/oblitweapon.jpg A las cannon (+ power cord) combined with the plasma guns on the fist for the second oblit. The third oblit will get the modified storm bolter with a fist with melters on it and some nice missile launcher on the back ( a little bit cyclone style) @ Tiny sam Well I'm not 100% sure about those FW-Icons, plus the delivery from FW to Austria usually takes about 4 - 5 weeks (and I'm not that patient) :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223913-obliterator/#findComment-2683878 Share on other sites
Kitchen Knife
Update.... First Oblit is ready for action! Here are the pics of "Jim" (But friends call him Jimmy) http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3938/oblit1c1.jpg http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/2457/oblit1c2.jpg http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/4577/oblit1c3.jpg And here is a small pic of the next oblit (his name will be Bob). Armed with twin-plasma fist and a las cannon (which is also in some sort of development) http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/9569/oblitnr2.jpg C&C always welcomed Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223913-obliterator/#findComment-2687858 Share on other sites
Kitchen Knife
It took some time (aka I was to lazy to paint) but I present you "Bob"in a more or less 360° view http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/3308/oblit2c1.jpg http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4297/oblit2c2.jpg http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/8103/oblit2c3.jpg C&C as always appreciated Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223913-obliterator/#findComment-2698152 Share on other sites
Firepower
While it definitely looks like a walking tank, it doesn't really scream "chaos" at me (meaning I don't have a reflexive urge to beat it into a pulp :P ). Though I have to admit I'm not sure how to create such a feel without utilizing that fleshy weapon morphing look you were trying to avoid in the first place. Something to reflect on..... For something that is supposed to be a living gun, it seems to have a lot of blank space left. Specifically, another gun or two could be strapped onto the shoulders I think. Mutation or not, an Obliterator needs to give off the "I've got 3 guns for every 1 occasion" look. Could just be my own bias though (meaning it most certainly is my own bias). It's still a well executed conversion, regardless of whether or not it means my own personal understanding of what the model should look like. BassWave
I agree in that it isn't chaos enough. Maybe throw down a row of spikes coming down their backs, some chained skulls hanging from the belt, and a chaos star here and there. EPK
Yes, they are very cool, but I have to agree with the above too posts. They reminded me of some sort of experimental Ultramarine terminators, though Gulliman would be turning over in his stasis. Maybe something that has been adapted for the Dornian Heresy styled Ultras. But I digress... At least something to play up the Chaos-factor is needed. Rapture747
Depending on how patient and confident you are when you paint, you could fix up the armor with some chaos stars. If you keep them small and use a color really close to the base it can produce a nice effect. I am thinking along the line of the berserkers with the faces in the BRB. Battle damage is an option too. Clean marines tend to look more loyalist if they aren't carrying a cast iron fence on their back. Kitchen Knife
Well thanks so far for the feed back. I'll try to explain the "concept" behind the "not-so-chaos-looking" miniatures Right now I'm building up an AL-army (in which these oblits will take their place). The style of my army could be best described as "we mean business AND are practical thinking". So I ditched the whole spikes and chaos stars, to give the marines a serious outfit (regarding more or less the AL fluff). I mean, come on, spikes on your armor if you are trying to infiltrate the enemy lines? :P So the not so chaos looking design is on purpose ( but I'll consider to put small hydra marks on the pads or on the breast plate). Just a small pic, what the current marines look like, so you might have a better understanding of what I'm trying to say... http://img858.imageshack.us/img858/5316/almarines.jpg BTW: I'm carefully screening my miniatures, so no AL-marine turns into a UM (regarding all the blue paint) And if they are mistaken for UMs... it was "just as planned" @Firepower I walking tank is all that is needed (based on my bias) :D @ BassWave Skulls on chains are highly reserved for the khornate AL-berzerkers! If you listen closely you can hear them whisper "blood for the blood god.. and god damnit keep it down there, will ya!" @ EPK Actually this are dornian heresy alpha legion marines, who are disguised as UM-termis in a new highly advanced battle suits ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/223913-obliterator/#findComment-2698903 Share on other sites
