I like the DC so I thought I'd make some truescale DC. So here they are.

I still have to work on the torsos and the arms and belts and well a bunch more.

Looking cool. I'm working on my own True Scale right now actually. What I think really makes the model, is the panel lines and such. I haven't on mine ( I think it'll work best with a wet knife when the gs is still soft) and I think those would really add to your models.

They're looking good, though I think you went a little overboard removing detail from the Chaos Champion helmets, they look a tad plain. Also, I think the powerfist guy needs to be doing something more Death Company/Violent, like pulling a chaos guardsman's head off.

Pose is good for the charging guy, I really like that one.

Finally a project such as this has begun. Never before have I seen truescale DC which is why I'm quite excited. I must say though that the two marines with storm bolters look oddly posed. The pose isn't convincing with the legs being so static.

Ooooo true scale Death Company. I'm currently sculpting some true scale goodness myself and yours are looking very good. I have to say though you might want to change a few poses around to make them not look so static but non the less they are looking pretty good. Can't wait to see them painted.

  • 2 weeks later...

I changed some things up a bit. I added a little more detail to the armor, I redid the straps on the chest and added some abdomen protection to well, the abdomen. I actually went out and bought a new box of terminators so I can make more of these guys. This project has been so difficult for me. I think I need to stop looking at the fine work of Sioka and Lamenter and Doghouse and all the other sculptors who have all that talent, its depressing to see the level of detail and the crisp lines that those guys can do on their models. All kidding aside they do awesome work and I have learned quite a bit from them. Well here we go with the pics. Mind you I have taken this guy apart about 20 times now and I am finally at a point where I can look at my work without wanting to start over, so at least I have that going for me now.

I don't know what to do with the arms and I would like some input before I go down that road so please if anyone has any ideas I am all ears, or eyes actually since I am not really talking to anyone here and I am more or less reading what they (you) say. Well you get the picture and here are the pictures

First off as a truescaler myself these are some amazing models and put mine to shame, i'll definately be getting tips from you in the future :tu: As for the arm positions on the thunderhammer dude, i'd make it so he's arms are higher up so kinda mid-swing as it would make more sense that he's lunging that far forward, Throwing his weight into the blow.

Little update. I changed arms. I added some GS to the shoulders and I am arming this guy with a regular bolter. I don't know where to go next with this guy. I guess I will work next on the helmet and then on the feet, finally ending with the feet and then the base. Any criticism welcome. Thanks for looking.

Size comparison here. I want the DC to be big and intimidating. Don't think I'll bling him out so much. I like him simple, big, and brutal.

Brother Pattison: I get the smooth finish by mixing a little bit of testors contour putty into the GS mixture. Then I use clay shapers to smooth it out onto the model. In my opinion the clay shapers are the key to the smooth finish-clay shapers and a big tolerance for failure. I also use vaseline so the shapers don't stick to the GS. Check out Sioka's truescale marine or Lamenter's stuff. They show all the tools you need.

Brother Oilresdan: It takes me forever to do this. I'm sure folks go faster but I am still pretty new to the whole GS thing. I tried it last year around this time to so-so results. With my new tools it is a bit easier. I am a severe self-critic so I have torn this guy apart about 10 times now. I am alright with the results. Hopefully the models will go quicker in the future.

Man your jump pack Death Company figure looks phenomenal! Are you doing a whole Company of True Scale BA's? Oh and I know exactly what you mean by a high tolerance of failure with GSing true scale. It's just one of those things that bugs the living hell out of you every time you go to make something and it just fails but alas in the end it comes out looking ace!

I have added some details like the x's and blood drop on the shoulder.

I'm almost ready to prime. And here he is primed and ready to go. I'll do the shoulders separately.

The conversion looks good, but I'm mystified by this true scale thing that's taken the modeling side by storm over the last few years. The problem I see with it is that your marines look too bulky now. I'm having a hard time imagining this guy running flat out and being assault-y with legs so thick they would rub together all the way down to his knees.

Again, the conversion work is incredible and I applaud your modeling skills, but I think you've tipped the scale too far in the other direction now.

*edit*

So should I highlight the black more?

I think a bit stronger highlight would work. With the red as bright as it is, viewing the mini from more than a foot away, you may lose some of the detail in the deep black areas. It would probably help the red "pop" more, also.
