Rinion
Okay, so I've recently played some games, being new at 5th, after stopping at 3rd. I'm still figuring things out and have only had 3-4 games so far with my DoA army. Lastnight i was was beat by, Two winged Tyrants with Paroxysm/Ubergaunt Combo killing everything (Hitting on 3's with rerolls on 1's, wounding on 4's with re-rerolls caused 28 wounds in a round, with me killing around 3.) Old Zogworts Curse turing Dante into a squig with relative ease, from inside a Battle Wagon Mephiston in general. (This player also insisted that Sword lasted the whole game) So, going by this, it would seem I need a Librarian in 5th. But apart from there being no room for one (Dante and Sanguinor are more fun, to me. I mean, i could replace Dante for Mephy against the 'nids, since his mask doesnt work on anything it seems, but that wont work in a tournament) it still seems i need something. But, i know people who get by very well in tournaments without taking one at all. So, what would be the best ways around this with a Jump Infantry army? Suck it up? Or am i missing something vital? Whitefireinferno
If you need one for a Hood you could always try and shoehorn in a Libby Dread into your list maybe?
SamaNagol
DoA doesnt do well against Hordes Im afraid. It is fantastic against most top builds like Space Wolves, IG and the like. But Horde type lists fall down when they are overrun and huge tarpit units rob you of mobility. Mephiston CAN help against Tyranids and Orks, but he wont win you the game on his own. Gv0zD
So basically you need psychic hood to oppose enemy psykers? Than Libby Dread should work imho. Taking Libby as an HQ is slightly different imho. Yes, you might be fine without one, and not only with named characters. But I personally love Libbies for the flexibility they provide - great multiplier, capable of dealong with certain threats on his own (I mean spooking devastators, popping tanks, or just hitting at S10). So , in my personal opinion, saying "I don't wanna take him" you willingly limit your own abilities and flexibility (not mentioning the said hood). Freman Bloodglaive
Replace the Sanguinor with a librarian with jump pack. You'll have enough points for another 5 man assault squad too. Librarian with jump pack, 5 man assault squad, power weapon and meltagun, 250 points. DoA army won't use Dreadnoughts. Dante gives you the ability to take Sanguinary Guard as troops, but if you're not taking Sanguinary Guard I'm not sure he's worth the points. His zero scatter deep strike is handy combined with a Honour Guard's four meltaguns though.
Deschenus Maximus
You don't need a libby, but they sure are useful, far more than Sanguinor imo. A good way to help Jump Armies against hordes is to include dismounted Devastators. They will offset one of the largest drawback of your army. Morticon
You're spending 500 points on 2 characters. Depending on what your point level is, that may be the start of your problems. You may be too top heavy. Personally though, I cannot force myself to NOT take a Libby to any serious tournament. He will either be my primary or my secondary HQ choice - but he will be there. Ebsolom
The only time I don't take a librarian is in my all DC list, he just doesn't seem to fit in well with a bunch of crazed nutters in black  but in my mech list I almost always take one.
