Can I just ask though, I keep seeing this term "dieselpunk" being used, and I've not seen it before. I'm well aware of what steampunk is, but is this a tounge-in-cheek name for steampunk, or something else?

Dieselpunk is a term for a concept that runs parallel with Steampunk.

They both belong to a category of fiction involving anachronistic applications of technology from different eras.

Clockpunk - Renaissance era technology being applied to ideas ahead of the time....basically, think Leonardo da Vinci's machines. For all intents and purposes, da Vinci WAS a Clockpunk inventor who couldn't get his machines to work (because he didn't live in a sci-fi world). Assassin's Creed 2/Brotherhood are perfect Clockpunk examples since they have fully functioning versions of da Vinci's gizmos.

Steampunk - Technology from the Industrial Revolution (steam engines, cogs, springs, Tesla Coils, firearms) used to operate computers, robots, lightning guns, magnetic shields, flying galleons, etc, etc. A perfect example of Steampunk is the game Arcanum:Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura (which also happens to be one of the best games ever made).

Dieselpunk - Technology from roughly the World War I - World War II era (often powered by diesel) put to anachronistic and impossible uses. Flying battleships, giant robots, underwater cities. Among the best examples are th movie Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow and the game BioShock.

Atompunk - Technology set circa an anachronistic version of the 50's. Technology retains the general post-WWII - 60's style but with the addition of rayguns and nuclear reactor-powered flying cars. The Fallout games would be a perfect example of an Atompunk world...except it has all been blown to hell....

(at this point the genres pretty much catch up to modern technology and the rest are futuristic)

Cyberpunk - Digital technology, robotics, bionics, cyborgs, wireless everything. Kinda like if the whole world ran on Apple technology. I, Robot and Minority Report are pretty good examples.

Biopunk/Nanopunk - Biopunk has all or most technology as organic. Think Tyranid technology, but human style. Nanopunk would have all technology replaced by their nanotechnology equivalents.

Also, I declare this army to be epic, win, and favorite.

I want one. A lot.

I was pondering Steam/Diesel/Atompunk Marines and couldn't figure how I'd go about it. You've done it perfectly. VERY well played, sir.

Also, 8000th post! And quite the worthy place for it

Awesome army, been following this for awhile and I LOVE it!

Another excellent example of Cyberpunk are the Deus Ex games. Neal Stephenson also wrote some excellent Cyberpunk/Nanopunk novels: Snow Crash and The Diamond Age, respectively.

Hahaha! Wow! That is an original and amazingly well done army!

I'm a fan of steam-,and anykind of,punk, (except punk music. Wait, are Flogging Mollies punk? Uh,forget it.) I really like this army of yours. It inspired me. Maybe someday I'll make some dieselpunk Orks!

Now, can you solve my another one of my pondering and figure out how to make a completely badass TronMarine army?

I'm thinking it must involve Tau parts. And maybe I've actually solved this long ago, now that I think about it....

But what's your take on it?

that is actually a tough one..... maybe a stealth suit torso and head with the jet pack removed and a necron scarab in its place, regular marine legs and arms but put the shoulder guards on with the wide side down. the tricky part is the bolter because it dose not look like a tronish weapon maybe a mix of bolter and pulse carbine would work.

try it out and show us the results! you know you want to......

cheers!

@Bad Buddha: May I ask what parts you used to make your Terminators? I see Terminator arms, legs and normal marine shoulder pads, but what did you use to make the main torso? It looks like a killa Kanz body...but different? I wanted to make something similar to use as Ogryns for my Cadian army and these are much like the concept I had in my head...awesome work!!
