Kardions WIP Thread

Hi folks!

I'm fairly new to the hobby.

Recently I have finished my first minis ever.

A squad of sniper scouts as some of you may have seen:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts...48.page#2390813

Now I'm working on many things at the same time and just to motivate myself I decided to post some of the stuff here.

I start off with one of my tactical marines. I have a squad of tacticals deriving from AoBR but I replaced the boltguns with those of the Death Company:

The rest of the DC box ended up being kitbashed with a box of assault marines for a RA-Squad.

I mixed the two boxes to dilute the bling factor since the pure DC box is full of symbols and stuff. Too much for a RAS as I think.

They have no shoulder pads and backpacks yet since I paint them seperately

The guys with the PF and the handflamer are Sergeants.

Here we have some Assault marines with jetpacks. Very much WIP of course.

These are the models of the expugnator guard.

More to come... the sanguinary priest with an instrument. Just for fun. I think it fits quite well. ^^

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/3/5/192706_md-.JPG

To take a glance at the garage...

The famous Vindicator.

With a converted guy watching for incoming Xenos.

The bolter besides is not finished yet.

Razorback.

Not sure about the two metal plates with the thorn yet. Looks a bit like chaos but I can remove them since they are not glued on yet.

A Furioso dreadnought with frag cannon. Made him from the AoBR dread. Bought one box of the new dreadnought kit -> Got two dreads from it... Yay! ^^

The banner can be ignored. It will be totally repainted... And glued on of course.

What else...

Two hasty pictures of my assault terminators. Have fun though.

Some terrain is also part of the collection.

Representing the deserted homeworld of the Blood Angels.

Built by the mutated inhabitans.... As far as it concers my imagination. ^^

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2011/3/5/192703_md-.JPG

And finally... My version of an honour guard.

Banner bearer and a regular guy without weapons.

Discuss it controversly if you want... ^^

I hope you like it.

Critic and comments are allways appreciated.

But please don't break my heart since I'm a fresh man to the hobby.

Yours,

Enzephalon

These are your first miniatures?

*looks at my own, paint clogged, horribly painted Snap-fit marines*

Very very good for your first go! :tu:

Yes. But to be honest I did weeks and weeks of research... watching video tutorials, reading threads in several forums and articles in the White Dwarf and watched hundreds of pictures before even touching a brush.

; )

Nice start there. You know, I have the AoBR too and I love the minis. The only issue is the tactical markings on the shoulder pads. Epic for just about every chapter except ours. Took me like 15 minutes to remove them without butchering the shoulder pads themselves. My other solution was going to be painting the markings white and putting my company markings over them, but I went with cutting them off.
Where are the helmets from?

The helmets are from Scibor miniatures. I can only partly recommend them.

They look great, but if you want to use them on marines you will have to cut the "tail" to fit with the backpacks.

And they are slightly too big.

But hey...

They are awesome though. ^^

Dont know if Im alone on this, but first thing I thought of seeing those helmets = CUSTODIANS! they would loke PERFECT for them. I was considering White Lion helmets but these make me doubt.

Yeah.... You're right.

Haven't heard of them yet... Shame on me.

But I found this picture:

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/thumb/5/5c/Custode_Legionaries.jpg/300px-Custode_Legionaries.jpg

I just wanted my Honour guard to stand out.

But how?

Golden helmets? -> They are reserved for the veterans.

Golden armor? -> Reserved for the Sanguinary guard.

Regular GW fancy helmets? -> Would end up getting confused with regular marines when everything is painted red.

Then I found these. Painted the armor red and... tadaaa. My personal honour guard with an average Bling factor.

In my opinion, i think a progressively more ornate order is warrented. IE sanguinary guard is the most ornate, followed by honor guard then vanguard veterans. Think about using only pieces of sanguinary guard bits rather than whole bodies for your honor guard. Perhaps allocate 2 pieces of ornateness per honor guard member (legs and arms for one, chest and helmet for another, etc.). Or just leave them with chest and leg army with normal marine bits for their arms and weapons.

I totally agree with your statement but since I doubt that I will use the Sanguinary Guard actually I do not worry about my Honour guard using their armor.

really wonderful work for someone new to the hobby! Proof that reading tutorials pays off =)

It really does. Reading and watching those tutorials is the perfect start to the hobby.

And it's really encouraging to share the work with other guys.

I have very few time for the hobby since I'm pretty busy with my studies, but I hope I can do a few updates soon.

Had two hours of spare time yesterday and decided to assemble my Death company dreadnought. I opened up his claws a bit. Give him a much more menacing look.

I also went for a very dynamic pose I think.

He was also lucky to get some shiny parts.

Hope you like him.

Ahh, the master of the raven wing TLAC, I just got in around ten sets of those for some fully magnetized rhino/razorback fun. I am just waiting on some plasticard to get in to do some work with the weapons so I can freely switch them out. As a suggestion, take the smallest drill bit from the GW pin vise set and drill the barrels, they look way better once you have done that and it takes like two minutes as you only need a few turns to get it looking good. I am a bit OCD so I also bored out my smoke stacks, but in hindsight that was a bit more pain then it was worth in terms of how it looks so far. Good work so far though.
More to come... the sanguinary priest with an instrument. Just for fun. I think it fits quite well. ^^

Gotta say I like the horn, it's a good change from the norm. Though if anyone gives you guff about it, tell them its a funnel chalice.

That made me laugh.

;)

Glad you like it.

He will get a sword tied to his belt once he is finished.

A quick update.

It's a slow process I have to admit. Having only little free time is a pain in the "A to ss".

Comments are always appreciated.

What's that thing on top of the dreadnought?

I want one.

Nice work. The claws look really good.

I guess you mean the reaper standard.

It's the banner of the Warhammer fantasy empire general.

Concerning the exposed motor...

I guess I could easily get my hands on a piece of fly screen. I guess it's worth the try.

Personally I love the motor being exposed on the Baal Pred, why go to the bother of converting the LR bit to fit in there and then cover it up! Really liking you DC Dread too, the banner is a great touch for that little bit of personality.

It really was a lot of work to fit this bastard in there.

But I think it was worth the effort since it's just such an awesome bit.

It's a shame that usually it's hidden inside of a landraider.

  • 3 months later...

Hey guys,

I was very busy the last days.

Painted up my Death company, my Reclusiarch and the sanguinary priest. They are not 100% finished yet.

I will post pictures of them in the next few days.

Tried it with the DC but the night has come and the lighting is terrible.

But it's enough for the conversions I made.

Behold my Assault Terminators with a Sanguinary Priest in TDA.

First one:

Sanguinary Priest:

The last two guys will be attached to another base and the priest will get a bare head instead of the helmet.

Hope you like them!
