Galrion
I've been working on my Sons of Thunder chapter and the name just isn't working for me like I thought it would. Before I went further with it I thought I'd come up with a new name. I'd like some thoughts. I originally wanted to go with something avian (hawk, falcon, raptor), but that seems overdone. So does anything involving angels or dragons. So I'm thinking about: Foxes...Imperial Foxes, Sapphire Foxes, Foxes of Bisanthe, ghost foxes, silver foxes, platinum foxes. and for something completely different: Paladins of Bisanthe Another consideration is that I'm terrible at freehand painting and a fox seems fairly simple. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Does Purifiers sound good to you? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224246-chapter-names/#findComment-2681341 Share on other sites
Andurin Marvak
If you like foxes, how about: The Order Vulpine It's latin enough sounding for 40k and basically means Order of the Fox. And Dragons can never be overdone. Ever. (says the man with a chapter called the Dragons who ride dragons in the right atmospheric conditions, yeesh) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224246-chapter-names/#findComment-2681768 Share on other sites
Ferrata
Vulpes would be a good word to use if you didn't want foxes. So Obsidian Vulpes or Onyx Vulpes.. Other birds of prey you could use (going on Hawk and Eagle being overused, as is Raven (not a bird of prey)) are Falcons or Vultures (Kites and Ospreys don't really work that well). Galrion
Thanks for the feedback! Purifiers is good, but not quite what I'm looking for. Vulpes and Vulpine sound good, much better than Foxes which didn't strike me as quite right. Viridian Vulpes? Knights Vulpine? I like falcon too. Now I'm gonna be like homer deciding between the lottery ticket and a yodel. Reyner
I vote for Knights Vulpine. Viridian Vulpes just doesn't sound right to me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224246-chapter-names/#findComment-2682228 Share on other sites
Galrion
Alright, I've narrowed it down to: Celestial Falcons Argent Falcons Emperor's (or Imperial) Falcons Knights Vulpine Paladins of Bisanthe Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224246-chapter-names/#findComment-2683418 Share on other sites
Andurin Marvak
Honestly, if just for the sake of going your own way, I'd go with the Knights Vulpine. Because you see falcons and knights(paladins) practically everywhere. This is the first I've heard of foxes for the Emperor. FOXES FOR THE FOX GOD! Could you imagine, an entire chapter that behaves somewhat like the Raven Guard, but uses unpredictable bait and switch tactics, false fall-back points, and all manner of head games to utterly confuse and ultimately destroy the enemy? It'd be like an entire chapter of Lukas the Tricksters. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224246-chapter-names/#findComment-2683441 Share on other sites

Big focus on indirect approach, trickery, etc. I just worry that it is overkill to then name the chapter that too. Andurin Marvak
Considering you're talking to the Master of Overstatement, this may not be the best advice. But think of it this way; the other names you have don't make sense, falcons are animals that slam home with one killing blow, and paladins are highly visible front line inspirational warriors. Foxes are the only name that fits out of what you lie. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224246-chapter-names/#findComment-2683518 Share on other sites
Galrion
I'd never heard of Lukas the Trickster. I read up on the character and I was...less than pleased. I'd created a battle against the Word Bearers almost identical to his. I had to go back and take that bit out.
