Captain Engelhardt
Hey everybody, with my PH Emperor's Children under the lead of Fulgrim reaching their final stages (7000 pts +) I figured it was time to do another Primarch to go with them. The only problem I had was that I just couldn't decide which one to do. With some help from the mates of TheGreatCrusade Ferrus was chosen, simply for fluff reasons ;) So I started sculpting and looking for bits to bash them together and here's what I have got so far: The torso - almost done, just need to sharpen some edges and glue on some more rivets once all the GS is fully dry. http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/DSCF2282.jpg http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/DSCF2285.jpg http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/DSCF2284.jpg As you can see I was hugely inspired by the awesome conversion by Nathan Comanse. The horns are a little homage to the original drawing by John Blanche, while the other stuff is simply made up by myself ;) I imagine the two charms hanging from the sides of his pauldrons to be another indication for his love to Fulgrim: One being the Phoenix with the other one (the dangling iron things) resembling Ferrus. Here's a size comparison: http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/DSCF2288.jpg His backpack - I used the cloak from my first Fulgrim model and attached several bits to it. The pack alone consists of parts from 7 different kits! Gotta love bitsboxes ;) http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/DSCF2289.jpg Forgebreaker - I was struggling with this as I really had no idea how to make the weapon not look like every other thunderhammer. Finally I stumbled across a backpack from a Chaos sorcerer - I tried it and I think it came out okay. The handle is made from a WHFB Chaos Warrior banner pole and the end of a WHFB Skeleton horn: http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/DSCF2292.jpg And finally a wrist-mounted gun for the left arm (still WIP): http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/DSCF2296.jpg So that's it, how do you like him? He's actually getting painted right now, I will post more pics asap ^_^ C&C aprreciated :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/ Share on other sites
Machine God
Excuse but why has he got horns growing out of his head? Oh, Soddin Blanche! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2681854 Share on other sites
Captain Engelhardt
Excuse but why has he got horns growing out of his head? Oh, Soddin Blanche! They're not growing out of his head, they're arranged around his head ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2681859 Share on other sites
GooseDaMoose
Looks awesome! His arms look a bit thin for Ferrus Manus though, but it might just look that way. I look forward to seeing him painted ;) Keep up the great work! Firepower
Looks a bit smooth and rounded for my liking. I always imagined Ferrus Manus as looking more like a Dreadnought than a marine- all jagged right angles and rivets. Oh well, my personal image of an ambiguous character doesn't really matter if I can't produce it myself ;). The sculpting and level of Orkish bitz bashery are impressive all the same. their kin
Amazing, i love the green stuff legs, especially the feet (a part I struggle with). Are the legs and torso scratch built? Awesome work man. Natanael
He looks great. I saw him on the Great Crusade forums, but didnt have the time to log in and make a comment about the awesomeness. Now, however, it is time =D I like it a lot. Did you start with a model as base, or is it all GS? And yes, if that is his arm, it looks a bit small to be primarch. And while I am at it, do you have any picture album of your EC? I've seem some pics of them, but not many at all. Since I am a Fulgrim fanboy myself, and PH as well, I'd love to see more of them. - Natanael Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2682266 Share on other sites
mstersmith
A crazy idea but since it is Fulgrim instead of the two plain faces on the shoulder pads, how about the laugh now cry later faces from the theatre? Captain Engelhardt
Thanks for the replies <_< I threw some Terminatorlegs in there, but they are so shaved dwon that all that remained was a basic anatomic structure. Everything else is sculpted. @Natanael: Thanks bro, you might want to check out my thread as there are plenty of pictures ;) I have one gallery for most of my pictures, if you want you can always browse through it and you'll find a lot of pics ;) http://s642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/ Here's sort of a teaser picture, in fact I was only able to make one photo and then my cam's batteries went dry. http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/DSCF2303.jpg More pictures when the cam's working again ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2682741 Share on other sites
Natanael
Thank you. I'll have a look at the gallery. And I was wrong about the arms. I am too used to my true scale guys, so the arms seemed a little small in my mind, but on the model it looks great. Poor EC <_< - Nat Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2682746 Share on other sites
Sons of Horus
he's alright except I find Forgebreaker a little bit too puny Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2682777 Share on other sites
Honda
1. I love your stuff. It's always creative, inspiring (e.g. your Custodes) and extremely well done. 2. I don't like the horns. They just seem too Chaos to me. Maybe it's because we have way too much exposure to spikey bitz and such, and perhaps the paint will address this, but I think the horns are distracting to the overall figure. Perhaps if they were a necklace, representing the teeth of one of the wyrms (sp?), I don't know. Pointing up like this...I'll just say I'm struggling with it. 3. Having said all that, he's a brilliant model and I do think he will look awesome when you are done, so please do play on. Side note: 7K of EC is a LOT of purple ^_^ Cheers, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2683638 Share on other sites
subtlebrush
I'm really liking your version of ol' Mannus except for the horns. Seems a bit Chaosy to me but otherwise its a sweet model! Dawnrunner42
Absolutely fantastic. Modelling a Primarch is always an ambitious endeavor, but your Ferrus Manus is right up there with the best of 'em! Just a couple of comments...I would think that the dragon's head on Forgebreaker should be at the back, not at the front. Looks a bit delicate to be the striking edge. Really awesome job though, I definitely wanna steal the horn idea for the flared pommel. Also, how did you make the shoulderplates? They're AMAZING. GooseDaMoose
It's looking awesome! But I have to agree, although I like the horns, they're not so much Ferrus Manus. I daresay they're a lot more Vulkan's thing, with all those lizard-y dragons and what not in their whole shtick. Captain Engelhardt
Alright, finally there's pictures! http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/P1010066.jpg http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/P1010069.jpg http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu145/bucket_of_bcb/P1010070.jpg Hope you like him, I think he makes a really neat contrast in comparison with my Phoenician :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2693608 Share on other sites
Natanael
They make an interesting couple, I've always thought. One slim and sophisticated, the other bulky and brutal, made of iron. You captured that very nicely with your models. I'd take Fulgrims sword over that hammer anyday tough. It is just sooo nice ^_^ - Natanael Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224292-ferrus-manus/#findComment-2693627 Share on other sites
