ByeBye Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, the toys they took away

Well the codex it out of the bag, its printed and in shops hands as we all know, those lucky enough to read it will have had the suspicions and near 100% confirmed rumours that the IST's have been removed from the Daemonhunter army.

So are we surprised at the final gong and the rumour to be true? Are many of you fellow inquisitors, a bit miffed that your 30+ Storm Troopers will essentially go to waste, that is unless you go for the troop warbands that have worse stats than IST's and cost a little more with less customization and no veteran?

I will be honest and say its somewhat disappointing, considering the IST's were the mainstay of cheap troops for so very long.

So tell me how you feel? Is this a toy you have no qualms about loosing

Not really, because, well, you said it yourself...

As for being ticked off, I always used more inducted Guard than ISTs. Only had one squad of them, and I cleverly painted them in such a way that I can just use them in my alternate Guard-only list. In the end, though, I would have preferred both options to be present in the codex. Both are fluffy, and would have served different purposes, thus could justifiably have both been included.

It's always a little disappointing to see certain kinds of choice removed.

Nevertheless, speaking just for myself, I only ever wanted to play GKs, so I'm darn happy with the final product. As others have said, if I wanted to play normal humans of any kind, I'd be playing IG.

Guess it's time for my storm troopers to stop moonlighting and be faithful to their role in my Guard army and for my squad of Knights to find an comfy place on the shelf of retirement for a good long time.
The only reason why im even going to pick up the codex is for the henchmen and Inquisitors. Ill run my penitent engines as dread knights and my IST as regular henchmen. I dont feel a loss at all. As a matter of fact if the leaked codex was accurate then I can have 16 scoring units in Lazorbacks all in one FOC.

You wouldn't be looking to sell, would you? I can promise them years of almost-competent leadership and plenty of violence.

16 scoring units? Ummmmm, how?

As for no ISTs, the models can still be used in the new dex and can be even more spammy with special weapons which was the whole beauty of the old ISTs.

For me I am going to turn my 30 or so ISTs into various other things. Some warrior henchman, some daemonhosts, maybe some arcoflagellants..... it is going to be fun.

The new book is WAY better for radical DH players than the old one.

Now to figure if I can fluffily justify taking a non-GK dreadknight. If the GK only answer to the Inquistion and the inquistion has access to all the imperiums secrets, surely they may be able to secure one somehow?

Nah. They may still get guest apocalypse appearances and if there ever is an integrated codex =][= I'd be kickin' myself.

The soldiers all know that the shelf of retirement is a temporary thing, just ask the hivegangers who became the backbone of my zealot hordes and the arbites who hang with my battle sisters these days. Or my Thunder Hammer Termies.

16 scoring units? Ummmmm, how?

1)You take the Inquisitor that makes henchmen troops.

2) Henchmen warband dont take up force org slots

3) take bare min size squad of warriors with no war gear for each war band (Three Guys).

4) Put each three man squad in a lazorback.

5)Each scoring units comes to about 100pts

6)In an 1850 list you can get about 16 scoring troops all in lazorbacks

Atleast this is how I read the play test codex.

Coteaz makes *all* henchment units troops.

So a max of three without Coteaz (one for each of your other Inquisitors) that don't score.

Or a max of six with Coteaz that do score.

True, coteaz removes the 'limited to number of Inquisitor' restriction. But he doesn't remove the FoC 6 troops max limitation. :D

How are you taking 3 HQ slots? Is this something new in the actual codex?

I'll be using my squads of IST's in Apocalypse games, in my Witch Hunter army (we'll see if they stay in the next WH codex!), and in my carapace-armoured IG army.

They aren't gaudily painted so they'll fit in with any force. They're distinguished from IG STs by Inquisition symbols (from the WH decal sheet) on their left shoulder pads.

Top of page 90 on play test codex states "This unit does not use up a force organization slot" Thus you never fill the 6 troop slot cap and you can take as many as you like.

That's quite obviously attached to the limited 'elite' slot verison you get to take when each Inquisitor you have in the army.

Coteaz changes that entirely.

Coteaz simply states they may be taken in the troops, I fail to see how that negates them not taking up a FoS

This is the Witch Hunter Codex... <_<

There is codex Grey Knights (Inquisition). There will be a codex Sisters of Battle (Ecclesiarchy.) That is all.
