Anyone else excited about Gk conversion opportunities?

Recommended Posts

I was hoping there would be good bits in the new GK kits for my BA libby conversion and I'm not disappointed from the pics of the sprues. The termie sprue has the books to attach to the hip, the back armor plates of the power armor grey knights has the raised "hood" similar to the forge world red scorpion resin libby, and of course there are force weapons and small book bits all over the place. Combined with some of the libby bits from the furioso kit and some bits from the DC box (the shoulder pad with the parchment attached is great for a libby) I'll have everything I need to make a plastic libby that looks like a libby and not just a dark angel or black templar model painted blue.

And then all our libbies will look alike :tu:

Seriously now, I like those bits, and would like to see them "alive", but buying tda gk for a couple of books and a box of pa gk for a-la libby armor backplate and a power (force) weapon is a bit too much. I won't need so many libbies :o So at best I'd buy them on e-bay, if they are available.

I think its safe to assume they'll be on eBay, there were bits from the furioso and stormraven kits on auction a week after those kits came out. There are also online retailers like warstore here in the US that sell bits from most plastic 40k kits but I find eBay auctions to be cheaper in most cases.

That Dreadknight is quite awesome.. I'm thinking of buying one and converting him to a Blood Angels Furioso Dread (By using bitz from the Sanguinary Guard, DC and Baal Predator)

The Dreadknight is a bit big to be a furioso if you ask me. It's on a Valkyrie base.

Actually, I am going to buy lots of Sanguinary Guard Boxes just to make a Grey Knights army(well, my Chapter is actually Blood Knights...so...).

I REAAALLLLYYYY disliked the Grey Knights boxes...specially those antennas getting out of the backpacks...

I am going to buy 2 boxes of PAGK and make them my death company.

8 death company with power weapons. A good bodyguard for my reclusiarch.

I'll have enough bits left over to make a couple of jetpack librarians too. Its a very good box set for converting.

So, I've taken a closer look on the PA GK sprue....and damn, that's a fine piece. Focusing all my strenght in order not to start a GK army, I've thought about how to incorporate the various bits into a BA army without making it look like a GK one.

So, did anyone notice that the falchions are actually of the same shape like that one crappy powerweapon we get in the DC sprue? Oh yeah, with some slight chopping here and there you get six really nice powerweapons. Screw our sprue for that! While the NFW and the force halberds are really a pure GK thing, I can see me buying the box purely for the falchions, albeit they are probably a bit shorter.

Furthermore, you've got 5 torsos with incorporated psychic hood - very nice for all those Librarian conversions out there, but that's nothing new. Oh, that ward-staff could also make a nice base for a force weapon(if the other 2000 that come with the sprue weren't enough :D ) and you get a nice mixture of open and closed hands which you can nicely incorporate into squad leaders, commanders or priests even.

Don't forget the wrist-mounted stormbolters which can make for a cool honour guard conversion - magnetised with SB on their wrists and swords in their hands - what do you want more? ^^

The arm executioning the plague bearer is also a nice touch and can easily be used for pimpin' up a sarge or some sort of special character.

Don't forget the awesome thunderhammer on top of that!

I say, that box is full of potential for us Ba players(and, by the way, for all them marine players out there) and I'll probably purchasing one just for bits.

Basically, echoing what has been said, them DH players are getting a really nice release, a release that they deserve.

They don't have plastic psychic hoods and wired chests like libbies do.

They don't have wired chests - but neither does he the current libby model with a sword. But they do have psychic hoods.

Yeah, I see.

But, compare the GK hood and SM one:

lib-GK.jpg

The GK one looks ... well....simple. I know that model with the sword, you mentioned. It is plain simple, with no cool hood (his head is like the guy from Bespin in The Empire Strikes Back), no wires. But TBH this can be made of regular SM bits and a bit of greenstuff.

Don't get me wrong, but I just think the GK bits are not that good in terms of Libby modeling.

And btw, the GK Libby posted at GW site is just SM Libby, painted grey -_-

I am going to buy a box of GK termies and convert them into

1 Libby, I'll use the staff things and maybe stick some wires around his chest and neck, then paint him blue.

1 captain, some sort of cool weapon and a storm bolter

1 sang priest with the narthecium

1 chaplain, I'll use those twin blades I have seen pics of and then count them as the crozius, painted black.

1 terminator with heavy flamer, just to use up all the last bits.

Obviously all in terminator armour.

I'll add blood angels shoulder pads and some other random bits as well so they don't just look like grey knights painted red.
