The Rose Princes
has anyone brought these 3rd party models to official GW tournaments or Games Days? what's their stance here? i want to jump in feet first with 15 TWC 4 mounted HQs & 3 mounted Iron Priests.... but i also don't want to waste my time or money. and whenever they get off their butts and make GW models for them all, what then? how should i go about this? and advice is appreciated. Max_Dammit
you'll have to ask the organizers, no one uses the same rules. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224427-tourney-legality-of-all-these-thunderwolf-models/#findComment-2683870 Share on other sites
The Rose Princes
That's what i was afraid of.... i could spend $500 on an army i simply cannot use. i'm gonna hold off for a bit until i get something more stable. Vincent Black Shadow
Mount TWC on motorized sawhorses made out of sprues and bits. Make sure to use the sprue piece that has the "copyright games workshop" text on it. If people won't let you play with good looking models simply because they're not GW, then you can play with stupid looking models that are made by games workshop until GW actually makes models. Magnetize and enjoy. Me, I would avoid any tournament that insisted on GW models on principle. Wulfebane
I've actually been wondering... Is there anyone/where in the states that sells Canis bits? The wolf cranial bit in particular? ORKILL
1. GW rarely has tournaments. 2. The best tournaments are IGTs. For those reasons, I don't worry about it. littlbitz
I travel and compete in Indy GTs quite a bit, and it has never been an issue. I think the only place you would run into a problem at this point is in the Throne of Skulls Tournament in Vegas. So, unless you are planning on flying out there, I would mount your Thunder Wolf guys on whatever models you like the best. spartanhwt88
The way that I understand the rulings of GW tournaments with 3rd party models is that as long as there are 50% of the model (by bits rather than by weight, which i originally thought) you will be good. That come straight from a tournament holder. The ones by Mr. Dandy are no more than i think 5 pieces. My advice get whatever TWM models you want and put a whole bunch of bits on the base and rider. Skarvald the Troll-faced
I heard that the Throne of Skulls or whatever this year is only accepting the actual Canis Wolfborn model converted if you want to play Thunderwolves. No 3rd party models. And the person responsible for saying which models are okay or not has fully build and painted ~45 Thunderwolves with different weapons that he'll be selling to people once they realize the staple of their list are illegal to use because they are 3rd party Thunderwolves. With that being said, I brought my Thunderwolves from Mr. Dandy's at Games Day 2010 and no one ever said anything. I only played in a few small games and people only had good things to say about them. A few took pictures or asked if they were FW models. Besides to me, the only tournament that I care about is Adepticon and they do accept TW from 3rd parties. The Canis Wolfborn model is dumb. Not only does it look bad, but the sculpt is always terrible and requires too much GS to fix. Also the way the legs are positioned limit the different ways of converting your guy and the amount of detail on the Thunderwolf does not justify the metal.. Firenze
What about GS sculpts and sprue? Or Juggerwolves? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224427-tourney-legality-of-all-these-thunderwolf-models/#findComment-2691251 Share on other sites
nurglez
Jugger wolves should be fine, as they are gw models converted to look like other gw models.
