good grey knight army list?

well after that nice codex wish comes out in april, i'm getting my grey knight army from under the dust and update it :)

after reading alot about the rules on the net i was kind of thinking about fielding next army to be a bit competetive against other army's.

what do you guy's think?

ps: i'm not listing any gear yet cause its not really sure what you can take and how many it will cost

HQ:

GK GM

GK librarion: master lvl3

Troops:

GK strike squad (10) in rhino: two psycannons are a must!

GK terminators (5)

Heavy support:

Dreadknight with probably a force sword and a heavy psycannon

dreadnought with probably an anti tank weapon (lascannon or melta)

Fast attack:

Storm raven

Elites:

purifier squad (10)

paladins (5?) : depending on the cost. otherwise maybe also terminators

(vindicare assasin): if you can take assasins with grey knights only. maybe thinking of a techmarine

I was thinking of putting the purifier squad, librarian and the dreadnought in the stormraven. letting the terminators and/or paladins deepstrike with the GM. Make the dreadknight scout with the GM special rule.

depending on the point cost (aiming for a 1500 à 2000 point army) there will be models added or removed.

what do you guy's think?

just pre ordered my codex allready together with a dreadknight

thanks for the advice

Grand Master

Librarian

10 Grey Knights (Strike Squad) in Rhino

10 Purifiers

5 Grey Knight Terminators

Storm Raven

Dreadnought

Dread Knight

You're already looking at just shy of 1500 points. Taking 5 Paladins automatically takes that to 1775.

Just FYI when you start brainstorming. If you want a lot of shiny toys, your army is going to be VERY small.

well i'm kinda aiming for a 2000 point max. army. i dont think i will go to tournies with them. (i'll leave that to my sallies) but you never know.

Indeed i will have a verry small army. maybe swap the dreadnought for another grey knight squad or regular termie squad?

well yesterday i've playtested this army (with alot of proxy's) to see how the new rules for the grey knights work out (played with the leaked rules, cause i did not have the codex at my disposal, changed what i knew tho from the net)

my batlle was against a chaos space marine army

these are my findings about above army list and the new GK rules:

problem n°1: cause i had to look up alot of things, especially with all the new psychic powers i forgot a few things during the battle

GK GM: this guy is alot harder then in the previous rule book. with alot better allround choices for wargear wich is usable against different army's. i equipted him with a force halberd, blind grenades, psy bolts. the strategic asset is really a nice thing. i managed to give my dreadknight the scouting rule and the purifiers re-rolls (no scoring cause we played annihalation). the GM joined my paladins squad.

GK libi: joined my termi squad. i gave him might of titans, blades and (forgot the third one, sorry). he also had a ward stave. nice to boost your troops with the psychic powers.

paladins (5): these guy's are really hard but expensive. 2 had halberd, 3 had swords and one had an incinerator also. really the shock troops of your army. the combi halberd and hammerhand is really destructive in CC and in my opinion always a top choice for every GK. (i found this out with my purifiers being ass. by a troop of khorne beserkers :Elite: )

Dreadknight: he made a really nice scout move when he came on board (right beside two defilers ) the first one he made short work of the second one... well, because i did not really know if the great force sword was +2d6 AP i did not use it. so the defiler smashed him to pieces after some really terrible rolls by me. All and all the DK is really a hard hitter (i just read the the Great sword is indeed +2d6 AP).

vindicare: this sneeky guy.... :P i actually forgot to deploy him ... lol. so he mist one turn of shooting. but my opponent agreed i could just deploy him in turn two. he quickly took out his land raider but after that was a heavy weapons magnet :( he atracted the attention of every heavy weapon left in the chaos players army. he holded out a while but all the plasma's and lascannons where to much for this guy in the end so he really only lasted one turn :P i'm guessing this will be the case in every battle cause he can pick a different shot everytime now (old rules he could only use each shot once)

purifiers in stormraven: first question, can a stormraven carry terminators? it aint clear in the leaked rules and in the blood angels book it aint really sure. well because most of my army came by deepstrike or scout. my stormraven was actually the only armoured target for the chaos player his first two turns. i moved flat out the first one giving him a cover save but this could not really prevent from attracting all heavy weapons in the chaos army. so in turn two my stormraven was allready shot down leaving the purifier squad in the open. i equipt the purifiers all with Nemesis swords wich i think was a bad idea. they goth attacked by khorne beserkes who had to go first wiping them out leaving just the justicar standing who in his turn took out the chaos lord in one blow xD so these guy's are really hard but i would give them a halberd in combi. with the hammerhand psychic power they have. cause of the halberd they have I5 letting them strike first almost everytime.

strike squad: these guy's were put in a rhino and equipt with halberds a psycannon (who to my suprise missed all his shots during the whole battle :P ) and a incinerator. All round good troops choice. they were no match for the chaos termis with there halberd letting them strike first in assault with power weapons. Wich proves again that this combi is the best in my opinion (for now :P )

overall opinion: grey knight really improved against non deamon army's in my first opinion. halberds and hammerhand is a must go for every GKSQ (you can mix some maybe, but really take some halberd with you).

Paladins arel really expensive but worth there points in combat. my god 2w termies! Dreadknight is a pain in the ass and hard hitter but can become a really heavy weapons magnet as is the vindicare. The stormraven... well cause most of your army is deepstriking or scouting this can really form a problem in my army for the first two turns. So i'm thinking of taking a second one instead of the rhino and leaving the paladins for what they are cause the are so expensive in points. a few well placed melta's could make short work of them in other games.

well these are some of my all round opinoins after my first games. they will probably change some more after i've played a few more games against different armies and opponents.

pls leave you CC as alway's.

cheers

So I played my first game with the new GK today - 1750pts against DE....

My list:

GM

2 x 10 man GKSS w/psybolts, 2 x Psycannons and 1 x Halberd on the Justicar in both squads

5 x Termies + 3 Halberds + Psycannon

2 x 5 man Purifiers w/4 x Halberds + 1 x Incinerator each

2 x Razorbacks w/Assaults cannons + Psybolts (aka psycannons)

2 x Dread w/ double autocannon/psybolts

1 x Dreadknight w/greatsword

He had: 6 x raiders with nightshields and a mix of disintergator cannon and dark lance

2 x Warrior squads

2 x Whych squads

1 x Trueborn with the Duke

1 x Incubi w/Lady Malays

2 x Ravager w/Disintegrator cannons.

What I found:

Psyfleman dreads are awesome - GK with psybolt storm bolters and psycannons are awesome but you really need a least some long range anti tank, the dreads are perfect for this. 4 x strength 8, twin linked shots from an unshakable dread is the tits.

Purifiers are great all rounders - 20 pts per squad isn't worth it just for cleansing flame, but for +1a, +1ld and 2 pt halberds it's awesome.

Psycannons in general = win. The Razorbacks chewed through his transports like anything.

The dreadknight isn't that fantastic but it sure draws alot of fire away from the rest of my army.

10 GK shooting 16 strength 5 storm bolter shots and 4 - 8 psycannon shots can be devastating in the right circumstances.

In the end, I had him 11KP/16 to 4KP/11 by turn 5 and I didn't even have to resort to any cheesy henchmen or orbital strike shenanigans. I'm sure looking forward to playing more with this codex!

hell yes, Assault Cannons + Psybolts = ridiculous. I am buying a half a dozen TL Psycannons for my Razorbacks to represent this and doing the same for the Assault Cannons on my Dreads.

For the same points as a Rifleman, you can also turn your Dread into a TL Autocannon + Psycannon mid-range behemoth.

the strategic asset is really a nice thing. i managed to give my dreadknight the scouting rule and the purifiers re-rolls (no scoring cause we played annihalation). the GM joined my paladins squad.

You have to pick the same option from Grand Strategy for all the units I'm afraid.

Don't forget Fearless as well!
