Gawain Veteris
The Shield Breakers Cleansed by their sacrifice at the battle of The Iron Cage the newly formed Imperial Fists chapter was now a hardened veteran force of the most unflinchingly loyal servants of the Emperor. The Legion was no more and for the next two decades the chapter went into retreat so as to master the tenets of Guilliman’s Codex Astartes. When this was done Dorn and his gold-armoured angels of death were eager to rejoin the fray and bring justice to the enemies of the emperor. Guilliman’s warriors had accumulated an otherwise unrivalled tally of victories against the traitor legions and the ruinous powers during Dorn’s respite. This impressive martial record was soon level with Dorn’s as he led his chapter across the galaxy breaking one fortress after another in an almost manic desire for atonement and vengeance. Dorn would continue his crusade for centuries to come, persecuting without mercy the Xeno creatures, treacherous mortals and Chaotic rebels that would see the galaxy burn. It was in these dark, early times that the Imperial Fists would serve as a beacon for all to see of the quality of the Adeptus Astartes. Some of Dorn’s warriors however shined even brighter than the rest. Indeed if the Imperial Fists were the first to break open the enemy’s defences then Dorn and his ‘Shield Breakers’ were the first into the breach. Countless times has the Chapter Banner flown atop the highest spire of the enemy’s broken defences as a result of unmatched zeal and strength of arms on the part of Dorn and his chosen speartip. It was these one hundred warriors who fought alongside their Primarch when he fell, aboard the Despoiler Class Battleship ‘Sword of Sacrilege’. It was on board this foul vessel where Dorn stopped the Black Crusade of Firaeveus of the Alpha Legion before it started. The Imperial Fists came upon the enemy crusade fleet as it prepared to enter the immaterium utilizing daring hit and run raids upon the enemy vessels until imperial reinforcements arrived. Victory was within Dorn’s grasp but he knew that to break the enemy fleet asunder he must board the flagship and face Firaeveus himself. This he did alongside his Shield Breakers and soon Dorn came face to face with the daemon infested commander of the Black Crusade. The battle that ensued broke the ship apart. A mere twenty of Dorn’s finest escaped the fatal boarding action including Chapter Champion Balian who led the survivors to safety. The battle was won and the Black Crusade fleet was broken soon after, but at the most terrible cost imaginable. From this seemingly hopeless darkness came the fire of vengeance kindled by those who burn brightest. The first Chapter Master of the Imperial fists had his warriors renew their oaths of devotion to their father’s cause; the Protection of the Imperium. In service to this continuing mission and due to a thirst for revenge the Imperial Fists wasted no time and returned to war as swiftly as humanly possible. With the last of the Shield Bearers at the head of the Chapter, the Imperial Fists led by Balian won a string of crucial victories which have become legendary in the Chapter Librarium. It was only when Balian came upon the Hive World Nordouest that the Imperial Fists would be tested to the limit. In the manner that Rogal Dorn had always prosecuted war Balian meticulously planned the strategy which would lead to ultimate victory over the various xeno scum and chaos forces who assailed the planet. The entire chapter was committed to the effort. His ten company captains would engage with targets across the world while Balian led the remaining shield breakers alongside the Black Templars in an effort to re secure Miller Arcadia, the planetary capital. The ensuing conflict would be remembered across the Imperium for millennia. I am of course aware that not all of this fits in with official canon and I couldn't find the exact date or details of Dorn's death but what do you guys think? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224545-the-shield-breakers-the-first-into-the-breach/ Share on other sites
Ferrata
Bumping this across to the Short Stories section as this is a story over a DIY chapter. It was a nice read though... Dinks
I agree, it is a very nice read. As you said yourself, it doesn't all fit with canon, but that doesn't take anything away from your work. Very good! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224545-the-shield-breakers-the-first-into-the-breach/#findComment-2686727 Share on other sites
