Why so much hate for dreadknights

I don't get why everyone is hating so much on the new dreadknight. I think it fits the fluff nicely and it makes a lot of sense.

If you take the model as a stand alone thing it looks pretty cool.

who cares if it looks a bit like something in japan?

the bane blade and every other tank looks a bit like something in the army. The imperial guard look a bit like the thing currently typing.

a dreadnaught would not match up to grappling with a greater daemon. the dreadknight is just a way of having a very big space marine. Gives the guy in the middle big arms and big legs.

people moan about there not being a cockpit. why would there be one? the 2+ save supposedly comes from a force field (according to the codex) so why does the guy need extra protection? a cockpit would if anything limit his vision and range of movement. also a cockpit would change the look of the model a lot. as it is you can see the operator clearly (fyi the japanese thing has no cockpit)

anyway thats what i think

I like it as a model but I feel like it is a concept better reserved for a more industrious, pragmatically "dirty" race. Squats, Adeptus Mechanicus and even Imperial Guard Enginseers and Techmarines are better suited to such a model, not clean cut, pristine warriors like Grey Knights.

*shrugs*

Can't do much about that now though.

I also don't like the way Dreadnoughts are completely redundant in the Codex now.

I think it will be the other way actually Idaho, Psyfleman are really good. Dreadknights on the other hand... the teleporter is so expensive, it's in my opinion just not that good as he's not hard enough to kill to justify the cost. (cross codex comparisons are kinda useless; but still a Chaos Nurgle Prince with wings is only 150 points for example) His shooting options aren't too hot either... And now that the Psycannons are 'only' 24" range you want to look somewhere else for your ranged support: Enter Psyfleman.

I would be surprised if Dreadknights become a part of competitive lists in the long run, unless they fit into some kind of build which people haven't figured out yet. Wouldn't be unimaginable as a Naked Dreadknights is relatively inexpensive. (but slow, so no easy implecation into any list)

Yeah I was looking at those S8 twin linked autocannons too. Apart from that of course, the Dreadknight is superior and quite cheap.

Can't remember how much the personal teleporter was supposed to be though? Maybe it'll be too ecpensive. I know I would prefer a Dreadknight to a Dread in my builds (as those bad bois still come with heavy weapons).

Why does it need a cockpit? What is with all these mighty Space Marines have to hide and cower in vehicles? Grey Knights don't need to hide. Here is a GK who wants to be in the think of things in combat, not hiding and cowering behind a vehicle.

All I can say is so much for the Mighty Space Marines. More like the little boys cowering when there is a thunder storm. I find it funny how IG don't hide and cower and can be in the open but the SM have to hide in vehicles. Why does it need a cockpit? He alreayd has Terminator armour. I would assume he would jump off if the Dreadknight ever failed so he could still be in the thick of battle.

I always get a laugh when a SM needs to hide from battle.

Ya know, I HATED the dreadknight when I first saw the pictures of the box. Too stiff looking, too anime, too everything. And don't get me started about not wearing a helmet...

But I saw an assembled model at my FLGS - and maybe it's my soft spot for GKT's, but I suprised myself by how nice the model is in person. I suppose it helped that the store assembled it with a helmeted pilot. Anyways, I am now considering getting one myself, because it's pretty nifty. I don't know what it is about the box photography that makes it look so off, but I'd suggest to GW that they get a new photographer.

I haven't read the codex in detail so can't offer thoughts on in-game performance...

I'm not entirely sure what Space Marines you have spoken to though?

I think people just don't think a warmachine designed to fight big beasties would have it's most vulnerable component, the Marine inside, exposed. After all, if there was no risk to the Marine, why would he need the suit in the first place?

Personally, I put a little imagination into it and assume there is an additional force field protecting the exposed pilot.
