The Lions of Donnachadh

Hi there, thought I'd post something new up. I've decided to make a small Codex force alongside my ever expanding BA force. They're called the Lions of Donnachadh and this here is their Captain of the 2nd :

Captain Kellan.

A warrior of some 250 years service to the Throne of Terra, Kellan currently finds himself leading the 2nd against a mysterious chaos group known as 'The Legion'.

Hope you enjoy, please feel free to rip into it, it can only help me improve.

Cheers

Looks great, nicely shaded yellow. On the front thigh plate on the red side it looks like some wash pooled there or something, might just be the pic. Also, I'm not sure about the blue skulls/eagles, I think they would have looked better in white, but that's just me. And for the belt buckle, I would look nice if you painted the two halves opposite colors of the side they're on, if that makes sense. Paint the half of the belt buckle on the yellow side of the armor red, and vice versa.

Nice work. :)

I'll agree with verpine. But what I really love is the simplicity of it - the model is more powerful for it but the words to describe it further escape me. AND for a game army, the choice of Thunderhammer and bolter is utterly different, which is bold, adding to the model.

Cheers I know the blue eagle and skulls are odd, but I'd done on an old test model for the scheme and quite liked it. I'm glad you said that Race as I was after something simple yet powerful for this guy. Mainly as I wanted to do the half scheme and didn't want it hidden behind too much ornamentation and bling.

Here's a pic of him with the original test model.

I'm with him on the blue eagles, its nice but I think it would look better highlighted a bit more up towards white.

Other than that, fantastic job, you can sure as hell pull off a split colour scheme, I'm jealous. Any chance you wanna share the secret of your yelow?

I really like the blue eagles and skulls as it really makes them pop and provides a focal point for the models.

They are looking really nice, loving the orange and yellow and the silver trims seal the deal for me. Looking forward to seeing more of these guys.

Cheers I'll admit I'm probably gonna go back and bring up the highlights on the blue eagles so they pop a bit more, but I like it as a spot colour. I just finished my "Vulkan" today (well finished is a loose term). He's Lord Lion Dunchad, Head of the Lions of Donnachad. He carries a stripped and purified Chaos pole axe with which he smites the followers of the Legion and an ornate heavy flamer with which to cleanse the universe of the heretic.

MeatGrinder @ the yellows pretty simple.

Basecoat Calthan Brown then mix in Iyanden Darksun till you're painting pure Iyanden. Then I use Yellow Wash which is very old and probably out of production. After thats dried I hit the highlights with a 50/50 Iyanden Darksun/Bleached Bone Mix. I use a micro art pen to black line the joints. Hope that makes sense. Cheers.

I like the way the heavy flamer has been put together, innovative I'd say. It looks a bit chunky though. Not sure what to say about that, really, except it 'feels' heavy in those pictures. Which I suppose is the point. I'll get my coat... :o

Cheers all, I was quite pleased how the heavy flamer came out considering it was just a quick kitbash. I painted up my Lascannon dude a couple of nights ago and I have my Sarge and another tactical primed and ready for painting. So heres some photos of the gang so far.

Cheers folks, I hope to find some time to work on a few more of these guys over the weekend. As soon as I find between work and travelling to work! Haha. I also hope to finish up a model of their enemy "the legion".

Cheers,

Rob
