hmm... the runic armour at 20 pts is prettymuch a musthave in the metagame around here. the amount of AP3 weapons being fielded is of(f?) the charts. now for 20 points less than TDA you retain mobility, get a 2+ armoursave, same as TDA, and an occasional invulnerable save. (which is more often than not replaced by the 3+ from a storm shield) Granted, that translates into 20 points for an increase of armoursave of 1, but it also translates into the capability to survive a flamestorm cannon or Krakmissiles, 2 weapons that get fielded a lot. (seriously, a LOT)

my runepriests are often fielded in TDA, due to their inability to take a Storm Shield, and it only costing 20 pts, add to that the fact that they don't usualy go into close combat if I can help it, they don't need to run down broken enemy units :)

can u put cyclone missle launchers on a thunderhammer , storm shield unit?

Do you have your codex? Answer is easy to find.

You can but it is a bit of a waste. A TDA with CML has a special rule allowing him to fire his SB in addition to the CML.

Put the TH/SS on one of the other 4 WG you are guaranteed to have aside from the CML guy.

I personally prefer a CF on my CML WG. Long range CML fire...mid range CML + SB fire...and CF if anyone wants to come get some. Makes a great packleader for a rear objective sitting GH unit

i did read that but i was double checking. im trying to make a CC group for my WL. and i thank you for the anwser. would putting a WC on the WG with the CML be a waste?

Depends what you mean by "waste"

WC and CML/SB allow you to fire all ranged weapons without sacrificing bonus from WC in assault

I didn't mean it in a bad way just more thinking points wise. But now that u expanded it I think that is what I will be taking over a assault cannon right now.

so I have a game against a very shooty Necron player. This Necron player is a nice guy, and is well known around in the area. He has other armies, but decided to play his beloved crons. I know that necron's have it hard these days, so I'm going to test several tactics in this game. And just play a game for the sake of playing and having FUN. I'm going fluffy on this one! I just have a question whether or not this is viable.... It's come to my attention that not allot of people like using Fen. Wolf packs. I enjoy them for fluff reasons, and I've fielded them occasionally to better understand their strengths and weaknesses against different foes. Anyway, my idea comes with having a Wolf Priest with Saga of the Hunter, attached to a full pack of Fen. Wolves who all outflank (hoping to get myself closer from his gunline) Now once these guys enter the table, my Wolf Priest detaches himself and literally unleashes the wolves of Fenris on the man. He knows that I always field Wolf Scouts... so I know he'll be careful from the chances of that happening. I won't be using Wolf Scouts as an OBEL this time. I'll be using them as a sniper team.. hopefully to take out whatever he puts on the table, monolith? Nightbringer? or maybe even anyone of his Lords. Heck, even if my Scouts can snipe his tomb spiders I'm a happy wolf! He usually runs two Lords, one is always accompanied by wraiths. I never field Blood Claws but in this game, they'll be used as bait for one of his Lords or just be meat shields. I'm not playing to win this one, I'm just playing for fun.. I know it may not sound like it, but I'm testing out some theories and combos. I'm hoping the Wolf Priest with a full pack of Fen Wolves is doable! while most people have a hard time seeing these fast moving beast as workable or even game changers, I'm going to find ways to make these fast moving units worth their attention and points. Of course I'll only field these Fen Wolves against certain armies, something that will work for their benefit, instead of having to mix oil and water. I dunno so what do you guys think? doable? workable? legal? would it even work? haha I have not checked the rules nor the codex, this was one of those spur of the moment post.
if the idea is workable, I'm planning this coordinated tactic: depending on which side the WP+Fen Wolves come-in, my Wolf Scout will target the closest troop, hoping to pin them with my sniper rifles. The Wolf Priest detaches and eventually meets up with other troops or even the scouts in turn benifitting from the stealth rule. Anyway, so the pinned warriors then can't really do much, helping my Fen Wolves from not getting shot up too badly, so they can get into close combat very quickly! the sooner the better for me as they'll get shot up and die. If they get into combat all the better to last longer. Just a theory I'd love to test out.

Is that allowed? I didn't realise we were allowed to enjoy this hobby... ;)

I haven't got my BRB to hand here, but I thought outflanking was only available to units with a Special Rule (perhaps "Outflanking", perhaps "Scouting" or "Infiiltrating", something like that). If that's the case, I don't see anything in the... oh, hang on.

Ok, I just actually looked at the Codex (only bought it last night, so not entirely familiar with everything!) and I see what your Saga of the Hunter does. However, it only applies to infantry and Fenrisian Wolves count as beasts. I assume that means they can't benefit from the Saga even if attached to a Priest who can use it. If someone wants to correct me on this, I'm always happy to learn.

My honest opinion on the Fenrisian Wolves, based purely on what I see in the Codex but inspired in part by my experience playing Warriors of Chaos in Fantasy Battle and also playing a close-combat-oriented Blood Angels army is that they are ridiculously cheap but surprisingly capable in combat. You essentially have an option with the Space Wolves of including a unit of Orks that can move a heckofalot faster than most Boyz.

Their statline would eat Guardsmen for breakfast. My take? If you want to run them, go big or go home. Take a unit of fifteen with no upgrades for 120 points and launch them across the board full-speed at a tasty (killable) unit. Woe betide an opponent who ignores 45 WS4 S4 attacks bearing down on him. Heck, you can take two units - that's thirty models - for about the cost of a full Grey Hunters Pack. Either your opponent realises their value and close-combat threat and is forced to deal with them (no easy feat, taking out 30 models in a couple of turns), ignoring your other more expensive units, or he gets a faceful of wolf fangs unleashing 90 attacks per turn (doing an average of 27 wounds to a unit of Guardsmen with a 5+ armour save).

Hopefully some useful thoughts, there. Though as I say - I'm completely new to Space Wolves and haven't really had a chance to get my noggin' around the Codex.

About to dive in to some OT at work but figured a quick reply by phone might be needed.

I am fairly certain wolves can't outflank even if WP has hunter saga. Double check that before you commit to the proposed battle plan

I suspect the same thing: the Saga only applies to infantry, I think.

Ahh correct! totally forgot the infantry thing. MMM.. *note to self, get a pdf of codex for my iphone! LOL. Contingency 101.. I'll go with the Wolf Scouts pinning idea. I'll try to pin one squad on a less defended side of the table, and hopefully have my Fen Wolves go from there! the fewer the shots, all the better. Or I could just field Canis, and just have an army full of Fen Wolves and full FOC slot elite of Wolf Scouts with snipers hahahaha that would be fun! and funny, but I'm thinking once Canis dies, all the benefits he gives like Wolf-kin is nullified. I know Guard gets eaten pretty badly by these beast, I've tried it before.. it was bloody! I'm going to see how they do against Crons.

used fen. wolves often in the past, and intend to use them often in the future. Saga of the Wolfkin is 15 pts, but if you only have Fen. wolves as Fast Attack, it can mean 45 models with 2 attacks each, an initiative of 5 and a S of 4, assualting for 12", and being able to run beforehand. These guys can clean out non Space Marine Armies.

I'm sorry for bringing up this old thread, but I had a question and didn't want to make a new post about it. Anyway, my question is:

Can a wolf priest ride on an attack bike? is that legal? or can I model a wolf priest or rune priest, ride on the side-car? or have wolf priest drive attack bike while a blood claw handles a heavy bolter or multi-melta.

No, mavgirl, the Independent Characters can take a regular bike as a wargear option. They cannot be used as a part of the Attack Bike crew. For fun modelling purposes, do what you like, but for army list/game playing, this would not be allowed.

Valerian

It would be a cool conversation piece. Think about a Blood Claw as pilot of the bike with the Wolf Priest in some kind of action stance in the sidecar. Possibly cutting down Orks in a dioramma for Games Day.
