last time i got my hands on the codex (PDF) i noticed one thing, the brother hood champion can remove a character after 1 roll to hit.

is this still around in the offical codex, and if so, do you think it renders all expensive characters void due to sniping?

Yes, it is in the codex.

No, it does not render others useless. He has to GT into combat, then die, then pass a psychic test, then roll to hit.

Your opponent will be trying to bog down his unit with cannon fodder to protect his HQs.

It's one of those rules they throw in for 'characterisation' rather than 'auto-win'. Same for pretty much all his rules.

It's a shame he's really not that great, when you compare him to a Librarian. Sure, his abilities can't be blocked, but his bonuses to his squad only apply on the charge (same reason why Chaplains have faded away from Space Marine armies), and as a character killer he's not the best option.

If you want to model a GK Chaplain or you just like the concept of a Brotherhood Champion, definately give him a go. He's not useless or overpriced by any stretch, he's just sort of middling.

If you want to ninja your opponent with completely hax moves, take a GK Librarian. His powers are dirt cheap, and when you attach him to a unit of Purifiers or Paladins, you'll really start bringing the pain. 'Quickening' stacked with 'Might of Titan' is awesomesauce, especially when stacked with his squad casting 'Hammerhand' or their force weapon ability. For defense, you have the excellent 'Shrouding' aura he can cast. For actual killing, nothing really compares to 'Warp Rift'. Being a template, you literally can't miss, and it pays off regardless of whether you're damning weak infantry or trying for an MC or heavy infantry unit.

In broad terms, Brotherhood Champions are a breadknife, Librarians are a Swiss army knife.

I for one, look forward to throwing land raiders at my opponents!!

Take survo skulls, cast summoning within their area of influence and have your warp stabilized land raiders teleport on top of your opponents, while scattering only D6"!! hahahaha!!
