Played in a 'Ard Boyz warm-up yesterday

Well, I took a 2500 points list to my Local Game Shop yesterday for a 2500 points Tournament, 'Ard Boyz style.

Only Battle points, no paint score, comp, or sports involved here. In fact no paint has to be on the models at all if you like. Me? well, those of you know me realize that I just can't stand unpainted models out in the public. So I took a fully painted force. That meant I was up late on Saturday night painting a couple of new units.

My Space Wolf army is quite large now, so I have lots of options even in a 2500 point list, and since I don't get to often play games at this size, I opted for some fun choices rather than optimizing what I took (typical for me I know)

Above you can see my army crammed on my simple display board waiting for battle.

And finally we have the Mighty Arjac Rockfist surrounded by his posse.

I will post some brief bat-reps, and thoughts later.

Very nice pics of an awesome force indeed brother, thumbs up all the way!

I especially like the left shoulderpads of your right hand biker pack(could be those of the bikers on the left look just as awesome, but one can't say from the pics above), how did you make those?

The "claw" seems to be relief like and I want some of those myself, so please enlighten me brother if you find the time.

Looking forward to those batreps, too.

Thanks for the comments guys!

@Grimfoe, no one that I've seen anywhere really cares what models are used for Thunder Wolves at this point. As long as it well represents the model, I think pretty much anything goes. (Well at least until GW makes a decent model other than Canis)

There were about 20 players in attendance, I came in 4th over-all and just one Battle point out of third. All the games were pretty tight across the board.

I ended the day with 2 draws and a massacre, not my best showing, but was a blast.

My first game was against another Space Wolf player.

His list was roughly: Njal, Ragnar, and Bjorn as his HQ choices. He had 6 ten man Grey Hunter packs with 2 special weapons in each these were all foot slogging it. He had 3x Long Fang packs, and 2 Venerable dreads in Drop Pods rounded off his list.

The game was and objectives based game with 5 Objectives on the board.

My game plan was simple, smash into his lines with my fast stuff and take objective with my troops. This was working like a charm, I killed 56 out of 60 of his Grey Hunters.

At the end of the day however, one of his Venerable Dreads was contesting an objective that I just couldn't kill, and a lone Grey Hunter which managed to get away from me actually held another! Making this game a draw with one objective each. I did however manage to score all of the bonus battle points so all was not lost.

MVP of this game was a toss up between my Wolf Lord on Thunder Wolf with Frost Blade and Saga of the Warrior born who walked through 2 Grey Hunter packs nearly on his own, and then Ragnar and his crew after that. and Arjac Rockfist was a beast, he dropped in with his Termie buddies and after my opponent opened fire with nearly his entire army, Arjac who now stood alone smashed into his lines and racked up an impressive tally. He slew 2 long fang packs all by himself before diving into a pack of Grey Hunters where he was finally overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

All in all a fun game against a real nice fella.

Game two was against a local kid that has been playing at the local shop here since it opened. I have had the sheer pleasure of watching this lad grow from the time he was about 13 to a Doctor working the ER at a local hospital. It always does my heart good to see some of these kids leave the confines of our local gaming group an do great things.

Anyways, Harry was playing an Ultra Marines list with roughly the following:

Marneus Calgar himself leading a Pack of Thunder Hammer Termies

A squad of those Shootie Vets.

3 full Tactical Squads in Rhino Transports

A scout squad with sniper rifles led by that special Scout Sgt.

A Devastator Squad

2 Land Raiders

1 Land Raider Crusader.

This game was Victory Points. I knew I was going to take alot of shooting from him trying to get into his lines. So in this game I knew Arjac and his boys would have to be sacrificed.

I dropped him deep into enemy territory and tore apart his Dev squad with Plasma fire and the assault cannon (oh and a throw of the hammer for good measure)

He then turned his ENTIRE army on Arjac and his Termie Borthers. I commented about his dislike for my Champion, and he laughed saying he heard about the incident with his run in with some Long Fangs last game.

This gave me the time I needed though and I smashed into his lines with everything I had.

As I was giving him a right hook however he was doing likewise to me with Calgar and his friends. After completing our sweeps we met in the middle and my Wolf Lord came out on top.

After the game ended and we calculated Victory points I was ahead by about 350 points, but needed 375 to count this as a win. I ended up drawing again. I again managed to gain all of the bonus points so all was not lost.

Game 3 was against, you guessed it, yet another Space Wolf player, another local lad named Bill Nagle (no relation he spells his last name wrong)

His list had: Ragnar with a pack of Grey Hunters in a Landraider

3 Grey Hunter packs in Rhino Transports, 2 Grey Hunter packs in Drop Pods, a Whirlwind, and a Scout pack, all of his packs were led by Wolfguard.

This was a kill points mission with any model that can move more than 6" in a single phase counting for 3 points!

This game did not fare well for Ragnar and his posse, I nearly tabled him with the only units of his remaining at the end of the game being the 2 Drop Pods.

Sorry for the lack of pictures and proper reports, but I knew with 2500 point games that time was going to be an issue, and I wanted to be sure to finish my games.

I will be sure to do some proper reports at the next local tournament in a couple of weeks.

Some interesting lists were at this Tournament, with Orks winning it, using the Nob Bikers, with 4 Death roller battle wagons and assorted goodies.

No IG were present which I found odd and there was even a Tau player there.

The other player on table one game 3 was a Tyranid player. His list looked pretty good, but I couldn't give you any details.

I'm asking because I'm unsure of the current rules regarding "Citadel Only" minis. I also have a full set of Twolves that are not from GW and wasn't sure what the proper percentage is for "tournament legal" minis.

Edit: LOL, sorry, you posted while I was typing.

Yep, nice reports even without the pics. With a 2500p tourney there have to be some issues with time, so no wonder u didnt get pics : P

Anyway - good to see that the Wolves did a good showing, even tough the draws could have been better. Keep it up.

I'll have to come back to this and read more. But I just wanted to say the army looks fantastic. Your Arjac is great. I too put an anvil on the back of my guy, but I didn't get too fancy with him. For some reason I see Arjac as a real grinder... not too big on the flashy stuff, but someone you really want on your side. A 'man's man' so to speak. :D

Arjac is a lot of fun. I just have trouble wedging him into 1500.
