Captain Psycho
I've been thinking about the best way to transport Purifiers (my new favorite unit). Here are the pros and cons of each option as I see them: Rhinos Pros:Cheap, two fire points means you can fire two psycannons on the move, fortitude (although you pay 5 points for it) Cons: AV11 isn't hard to pop, no assault ramp means a turn of standing around before assaulting (albeit with storm bolters, psycannons and / or incenerators so its not like they've got nothing to do) Razorback Pros: HBs / HFs with "psy" ammo can provide nice short range punch, TLACs with psybolts provide decent anti-armor + good anti-infantry (I expect we'll see some crowe purifier razorspam lists) Cons: smaller transport capacity (not an issue if unit combat squads - 4 psycannons in backfield, scoring with crowe), AV11, AV11 + psyasscans equals pricey glass cannon, no assault ramp Storm Raven Pros: Fast attack slot so no using up heavy slots best left open for psyrifle dreads and / or NDKs, large transport capacity allows for unit + ICs (including TDA HQs), assault ramp, lots of great weapon options Cons: Big increase in price over rhino / razor for small increase in front armor, dred carrying capacity kind of wasted on GKs (as opposed to BAs with CC dreds) Land Raider Pros: Its a land raider. Cons: Expensive in an already expensive army, heavy support slot competing with the soon to be oh so popular psyrifle dreads and occasional NDK Obviously I'm making a lot of generalizations here as factors such as army composition, tactics and opposing army are all variables that can make any of the choices above better or worse. But in general, what are your thoughts regarding the transport options available to purifiers? Ashe Darke
See this is where I'm getting a bit stumped when writing lists. Raiders are just too expensive and I'm thinking Psy-Riflemen Dreads are probably a better choice. Razorbacks are ok except for the low capacity and realistically I'd wanna do the twin-linked 'psycannon' which almost doubles the cost of the vehicle. The Storm Raven is the cheapest assault vehicle option but they're still pretty frail and hard to hide for when your opponent goes first. This still eat a big chunk out of your points as well. Rhinos are flimsy and there is no charging out of them but they're cheap to take any other options leaves me struggling to get enough infantry units into my list (1500pts). Of course I could just go on foot :jaw: The only way I can write a list that I'm comfortable with is to go up to 1750-1850. It makes me wonder if the codex was designed like this in order to nudge people who weren't already playing 1750 towards the new ToS tourney point limit. Gentlemanloser
One additional benefit for Rhinos/Razors is that as dedicated transports, if you use Grand Strategy to give your Purifiers Scouts, you can outflank in them. Unlike a Stormraven or LR. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224790-purifier-transport-options/#findComment-2688839 Share on other sites

Dingareth
Also, you can charge out of a Rhino, it just can't have moved. So, Scout, move 12 and smoke, then charge out and have fun. So, yeah. Rhino all the way. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224790-purifier-transport-options/#findComment-2688907 Share on other sites
MayorDaley
I feel that I will be using the rhino option as well. People are always surprised when you "charge" out of a rhino. Not to be a rules lawyer, but how do you pop smoke in the scout move? I know the Baal was faq'd, but smoke is used in the shooting phase. What I'm getting at is this, if there is no faq for scouting rhinos, what is the RAW interpertation for the GKs? Brom MKIV
As dingareth said you use smoke during the shooting phase not the scout move. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224790-purifier-transport-options/#findComment-2690181 Share on other sites
Captain Psycho
As preliminary GK tactica have started to appear on various sites in the last day or so it does seem that rhinos are the consensus pick for both GKSS and Purifiers (I think we all expected that to be the case with GKSS) - most list with purifiers will have a mix of halberds and psycannons and the ability to fire psycannons out of the fire points is the biggest reason I think the razorspam list will not be as common as it is for SWs or mech BA. I still think it is going to be a challenge to consistently assualt out of rhinos (even though you can disembark and assault in the same turn, you can't do so if the transport moves first so your opponent can always move the unit you plan on assaulting away from the rhino in his phase, possibly out of the assault range of your purifiers). Chucku
I've run Purifiers out of Storm Ravens and Land Raiders so far. Spendy but they have yet to not get their points back. You would think so but depending on what you put the rhino close to it can work out.. For instance.. Does the other player want to sacrifice shooting that weapon just so he can move the unit or tank. In addition to this, I generally put my tank what I eyeball to be 7 inches away from the unit I am targeting.. Reason being when you deploy the squad you get the 2 inches of "free" movement from the deployment then you can move six and assault another six. whatever you want should be well within your range to charge unless they ran and got a really lucky roll and thus making the unit worthless for a turn. I agree that razorspam is not going to be real big with GK.. Being such a point intensive army you just dont want to dump needed points into such fragile transports.
