10xman Grey Hunter packs

Ok, so my standard Grey Hunter pack setup so far has been, 10x man, 2x Plasma Guns, Mark, Standard, Fist. I really want to keep the dual plasma guns as they have proved very useful so far, but everyone keeps telling me the fist is wasted on a GH. I had really been keeping it for higher T-ness models and dread/sentinel lockups, but, with 1 attack base it doesnt seem so fitting of such a high upgraded weapon that may or may not prove its worth. I would take a WGPL, but really dont want to loose that second P-gun.

So my question is, is the Power Weapon better for a GH than the fist, in terms of cost + effectiveness? I know it opens myself up to lockups with walkers, but I just want something that may better pay itself off in the end like the 2x Plasma, Standard, and Mark have so far.

Thanks brothers! ^_^

you've not said if you want them to be in transports, if they are foot sloggin gyou can have 10 GH + WG, and limit only comes into play if they use a tank.

Even then you could buy a razor back for the heavy weapon, and they dont need to be transported in it.

In regards to the choice between power weapon, and power fist, i would go with neither, you already have a MOTW which gives you extra attacks, and the chance to wound any living creature on a 6, and penertrate armour up to 13, where is just glances.

As your marines have Krak grenades they are good against most walkers, bar ironclads etc.

If your foot slogging a good unit is as follows

10 xgh

MOTW

2 x Plasma

Standard

WG, with TDA, Chainfist, combi melta (53 points i think)

Praying for the rending 6 to pop up is pretty sketchy.

@Kassil

My choice between powerfist or power weapon really depends on what the squad is designed to do.

On my meltagun x2 Grey Hunter packs, it is always a fist because it is a vehicle hunting squad. It makes sense to be able to open up stuff in close combat if the meltaguns fail or miss.

On my plasmagun x2 packs, it is almost always a power weapon since they will most likely be a in cover, objective holding unit. When charged, they will strike first or at initiative.

Flamer x2 packs it is a toss up between the both. Flamers mean they will probably be getting into it the turn of or turn after using the flamers. Depending on what they are going after, depends on what loadout I give them.

No way any of my 10 man GH packs are leaving home without at least one fist ... period.

Too many MC, Dreads and other high toughness things out there. Personally I always give the fist to my WG, but then of course I dont get 2 special weapons.

If I had to, I'd drop MotW in favour of a fist.

if you want a unit for objective holding and shooting - then OK, don't bother. But if they are getting their hands dirty .. they need the fist.

the original posters pack appears to be midfield support, rather than anti tank (melta) or anti horde (flamer) so why spend the ponits on power fist for the GH, when these ones should not be getting to close to combat?

Also if they are mounted in a rhino, then again they should be able to vacate the area before getting caught in combat.

The best all round option for GH in combat is MOTW. Power weapons are ok, but MOTW provides the same if not more attacks, and can hurt more stuff. Power fists are too expensive on GH.

Well, the way I have been running my packs is in rhinos running up under the cover of LF ML fire to engage enemy troops, etc. The usually get off two to three good turns of shooting before engaging in CC. And in all my games so far I have yet to have a dread or other such walker type to try and lock up my GH's.

Thanks for the replies guys.

also depends on your tactics i agree with ramses thats exactly what i do but i play a mix of styles and its suits me well i rely on my speeders to knock out dreads but i have one tank hunting pack 2 melta and a fist and some long fangs

my altime fave squad is 2 flamers and power wepon it always gets its value back
