Fun with Mastercrafting!

So far, we've discussed Master Crafting Daemonhammers, and what happens if you Master Craft a Template Weapon.

But how far does this little 'oversight' of allowing certain units to Master Craft *any* weapon go?

What classes as a Weapon?

For instance, can a Grey Knight Grand Master Master Craft his Orbital Strike Relay? Rerolling the scatter dice for an Orbital Ordenance strike? Yes please! :D

As far as mastercrafting a template weapon (incinerator), it would get rerolls to wound. And no you can't mastercraft an orbital strike relay...or at least if I was running a tournament you wouldn't be allowed to, as it isn't a weapon, it is a piece of wargear that allows you to drop a pie plate, not a weapon that shoots a pie plate.

That's the rub, isn't it. :D

Whether the Orbital Strike Relay (and even things like Psychostroke Grenades or Empyrean Brain Mines) are listed as 'Wargear' in the Codex or not.

Something I'll be looking out for. ^_^

As for the incinerator, is that actually a rule listed anywhere? If so, how many? One wound or all?

Unless it specifically states it allows re-rolls to wound wouldn't it just do nothing... although if someone had paid for it I would allow them one re-rool to wound per shot with a template weapon :D

I would be interested to know if it is mentioned anywhere.

Well, OSR is under the "weapons" section, so by RAW, you can. I know the fluff indicated they come from space, by, by games rules, it's really a shooting weapon for your model. Actually, re-reading the OSR, rules, it says: the OSR is treated as a range weapon that can be used provided the bearer did not move. Now, if only you techmarine could MC it! Having a static GKGM seems a bit wasteful to me.

The real question is: am I willing to pay 230pts for an immobile model that shoots with re-roll or 130pts for an immobile model that shoots without re-roll. Don't forget, your TDA can't have you shoot on the move, here! I'd rather take a GKGM tooled for CC to support my troops on the move (with a 10pts MC incinerator that wounds on a re-rollable 2+ most of the time!!!) and keep a TM to point is finger from the back range (in that 3+ cover save building that the Vindicare also occupies with a nice 2+ cover save!).

Also, if your HQs tend to roll has badly as mine, I'd take a MC NFS w/ digital weapons! :D

See I don't believe a MC Incinerator would get the re-roll. The only place in the BRB it says you get a re-roll for a template is if it's twin-linked. MC =/= TL. And strictly speaking getting a re-roll to hit on a template isn't getting re-rolling wounds as it isn't twin-linked or counted as twin-linked.

Real question is, MC NDH on a justicar and risk losing him to warp or just give one of the regular PAGKs an uncrafted one so he won't get gibbed by the failed tests?

~Gil ^_^

Errr. Why not both? Justicar with MC Hammer (oh yes, I did!) and a regular Grey Knight with a Hammer in a squad with 8 others would be just right.

So is there a MC rule for template weapons yet?

Not yet; the games designers haven't bothered to make one yet. Failing that, I'll offer a House Rule that they allow you to reroll a single failed to-wound roll per turn.

This is correct. No rules to state it does anything means it's like the older gear in the 2003 dex. You can pay the points for it but it doesn't frikking do anything.

If FAQ'ed to do something I'd expect 1 to wournd re-roll, not all.
