Scrap metal

Pfft, I live in the vastness of cornfields. Ain't naw fishin' shops 'round these parts!

So far I've got:

- nickels

- nuts

- tiny stone

- fishing leads

- brad nail heads

I'm looking for tiny (because of the slottas), cost effective (as there are a lot of them I need to do), and most efficient (high density), so that rules out stone for the metals. I think I'll try this list this week and go from there.

I recommend the lead fishing weights. They're really cheap and they're soft enough to cut with a modeling knife. Of course you have to exercise caution when handling them because they're lead, but once they're glued on, I paint them with a couple thick coats of paint to cover, and "Voila!", successfully doubled the weight of a standard plastic mini and made it bottom heavy so it doesn't topple over.

Old metal scrap from metal models. I have collected a couple pounds of it, and a year or so ago, I did a plaster mould of the small and medium sized bases. Using the scrap pewter, I made full on pewter bases by pouring the hot metal into the mould I made from plaster. I only got like 6-7 bases per plaster mould before they cracked, but hey, not shabby for stuff I had lying around.
