Seahawk
I need to weight some bases, but don't think I have the proper material handy. Where do you guys get scrap to weigh down your bases? Keyboard
You could try putting some 5 cents under the bases ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224901-scrap-metal/#findComment-2690369 Share on other sites
Seahawk
Haha, well as these are slotta bases, I'd have to cut my money in half. That's certainly not in the plans! ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224901-scrap-metal/#findComment-2690372 Share on other sites
Durus
Instead of money I'd glue washers under the bases. So some small nuts (as in bolt nut or screw-nut) might fit under a slotta base. Seahawk
Hmm, they'd have to be really small, but I'll check the hardware store this afternoon and see if there's anything. Tanhausen
Or small pieces of stones. Â Or if you have a fishing store close by, get some leads :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224901-scrap-metal/#findComment-2690857 Share on other sites
ShinyRhino
I clip small brad nails and glue them under the base. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224901-scrap-metal/#findComment-2690877 Share on other sites
Seahawk
Pfft, I live in the vastness of cornfields. Ain't naw fishin' shops 'round these parts!  So far I've got:  - nickels - nuts - tiny stone - fishing leads - brad nail heads  I'm looking for tiny (because of the slottas), cost effective (as there are a lot of them I need to do), and most efficient (high density), so that rules out stone for the metals. I think I'll try this list this week and go from there. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224901-scrap-metal/#findComment-2690885 Share on other sites
Tanhausen
You can always use GS... which is quite heavy. Â Or simply staple the base to the board and when you move the model, remove the staple, move, staple again... Â Also the stones... you can put them on top of the base... you know, texturizing and so on. Hexenes
I recommend the lead fishing weights. They're really cheap and they're soft enough to cut with a modeling knife. Of course you have to exercise caution when handling them because they're lead, but once they're glued on, I paint them with a couple thick coats of paint to cover, and "Voila!", successfully doubled the weight of a standard plastic mini and made it bottom heavy so it doesn't topple over. Chaplain Invictus
Old metal scrap from metal models. I have collected a couple pounds of it, and a year or so ago, I did a plaster mould of the small and medium sized bases. Using the scrap pewter, I made full on pewter bases by pouring the hot metal into the mould I made from plaster. I only got like 6-7 bases per plaster mould before they cracked, but hey, not shabby for stuff I had lying around. averykess
I usually use pennies cut in half on the slottabases. I did my entire set of Genestealers from 2nd edition Space Hulk that way. Olis
Use big chunks of flash if you have nothing else to hand - always keep bits you thought you'd never need. Hell, spare resin chunks from my purchases have been chopped into itty bitty pieces and now live in my sandbox! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/224901-scrap-metal/#findComment-2702564 Share on other sites
Ironwulf
If you want to spend money on some weights, Impact Miniatures has some Pewter Base Weights, made specifically to fit GW-style slottabases. I've purchased some items from Impact before, and they seem like a nice group.
