The very begining

By this small post I begin my narration.

There was 2011 year. The very beginning of spring. The grass hasn't started to turn green yet, and buds on trees haven't bulked up yet, and ruthless D6 has given out to me laconic 6.

In my opinion, I have set uneasy problem to it: to decide, for which armies of a space marines I will play battles of Universe Warhammer 40000.

On 1-3 it would be classic space marines, on 4-6 – Blood Angels.

Usually, it doesn't carry to me with the Six on dice, and in general with all community of great numbers, into which the Four and the Five also enter.

Therefore I have rolled dice and for that short time, which it fell and slightly slid, I have had time to imagine, as 3 is rolled or even less than that, and I collect «vanilla marines», I go with it in our country, and maybe abroad.

And the Six didn't enter into those my "dreams" in any way.

But. Angels mean angels.

Well, I really would not argue with Great D6!

Update 14.06.2011 - My first assault marine

Eh...

Work takes much time. And too less time I have for my army.

I've decided to turn to Blood Angels. No chapters.

So, this is my first assault marine.

I've chosen Astartes chapter and now I need to choose color scheme and the name.

Color scheme has been defined, but the name сauses considerable difficulties.

Here is how I imagine my future tactical marines:

or (a little bit darker)

And as an emblem I wish to use the Greek letter Lambda.

Here is 2 possible variants:

So, I'd like to give the name, which will start with "L".

But it is not so simple: there are over 9000 variants :D

Would you give me some advice, guys?

Lethalis? I like it. We'll see.

But I have an idea:

Armour on my unnamed space marines' legs (exept knees) will be painted with red, so it is possible to paint red scales on it.

This may be start point for giving the name.

Now to the name 2 criteria are applied: start with "L" and somehow tied with scales.

Maybe something like "Last Dragon's Tears".

Have ideas? Give it to me! ;)

Sounds great... I think both Lethalis and Lethalis Draco would be cool but if you choose the latter you should ask someone with real knowledge of Latin (I only studied it for 2 years 4 years back xD) if it's correct.

I'll be waiting for those pictures ;) And fluff-like it would be awesome to include lot's of flamers ;) (Dragons ey ;))

This got me really inspired... Tell me if you need some help with the fluff ;)

So if it will be Dragons, i plan to convert Sanguinary Guards and change their angelic wings into wings, like this Posessed has:

actually not too crazy about the color scheme. A bit too disjointed for my tastes. I would suggest things like making the helmet one color, and the abb section the same color as the torso. etc etc. Definitely nothing wrong with bi-color marines, just would suggest making sure your colors harmonize rather than bring a feeling of discord. But again, thats just my take on it.

as for the wings they look very cool...but they might get the Inquisition on your tail.

I was thinking about color scheme.

Before choosing BA I wanted to paint Macharius solar orange color instead of red. So orange and grey look well together.

But BA obliges to paint red.

I have time to think about color scheme while. Perhaps my marines will be completely red, like original BA, but they will have own sculped emblem.

It is not so hard to sculpt blood drop with lambda.

Will you advice some color instead grey?

P.S. I didn't think about Inquisition. Perhaps the best choice would be to stay with standart wings =)

I would go for red and white... I found that those colours complement each other quite well.. At least the bright red I use for my Blood Angels... The wings are cool but just a little bit too non-Imperial xD I agree that the Inquisition wouldn't be very happy about them. I'd stick with the ordinary wings :D Or no wings at all..

Grey and red are both nice colors to work with. I agree that white is more of a pain.

I didnt mean to imply that your choice of colors was wrong, just meant that I didn't prefer the layout of them you showed.

Personally, i like bi-color schemes, even tri color works at times. I think the main issue I have with the ones you posted was the bi-color helm (which will be a pain to paint quickly and well)

If you use a white undercoat it wouldn't :P But grey and that darker red are a nice combo as well.. I also agree that a multi-coloured helmet wouldn't work if you want to paint fast.... I myself would only paint the chestplate and backpack in 2 different colours and then continue that colour to of the legs and arms.
I always want to have white on my blood angels, but I can't get it to work. The only thing I can do is helms. by base of black, coat of bleached bone, ink, drybrush skull white. Looks sort of ok. Might help you if you want some ideas on basic white.
