Termie's General Marine log

Recommended Posts

My suggestion would be to change the glow on the fist to green as well to match the eyes and wreath.

I meant the silver and black. The silver, though it may be the picture on both, looks to be one shade with a little bit of brown/black in the recess of it. For example on the gun, it would have more shading under the barrel and scope, where as right now it all looks the same shade. On the black it's a similar deal. I can see your line highlights but there is very little difference between them and the colour of the armour. Depending on your light source, it should be a darker colour under the arms and chest, as well as the legs. While the edge may be hit by light, the entire surface is not. Currently it looks very gray with lighter gray highlights.

I think the best part you have done on the black is the collar, and even there you could add more shade to the base to give the whole area more of a pop.

Your heading in the right direction and improving a lot, so just keep practicing. B)

I don't mean to be in any way discouraging. I'm just happy seeing someone who is willing to take criticism and apply it to better themselves, since all the kids in my area who ask me to teach them get furious when I criticize their work!

Oh and on the Power Fist arm, you got some red paint on the black in the armpit area.

Keep it up mate!

Aj

I guess what happened with the black highlights is that I used pure white but I put a light glaze of black and codex over them and it may have dulled them too much. I will add pur black to some recesses and touch up that armpit area though. oddly enough I did do a lot of work on the metals but I got a bit lax on the shoulder studs and the bolter. I do like a glaze of red, then brown then boltgun with mithril highlights, I might have to keep the PF as is because I am afraid to try to change its current color B) might get messy.

Here is a re paint and remodel of my old terminator armor Ryoto model I made by butchering a broken Culln mini and the previous Ryoto model :). I am not really sure on the painting on this one, but maybe once I add the other colors the highlights wont be so overpowering. I will definitely finish off the highlights though, maybe feather them in.

on a side note, his armor is much darker in real life, the flash lit it up too much, I will take pictures without flash when the lighting is better)

You seem to be improving throughout this thread and it's looking great, but I'm curious.. have you ever tried painting with a battlegrey or codex grey, then going back with multiple layers of badab black wash and/or thinned black ink to tone it back? Might make for a smoother blending.

Hey guys, I got bored of my own scheme so I decided to try to paint yellow, I made a melta marine in a taunting pose and I thought he would look great as a Fist anyways so here he is. The head isnt his permanent head I just wanted to see if I could fix up a badly painted head. I tried to hide my bad mastery of yellow with some battle damage did t work ;) He is about 90% done just some detail work needed and touch ups.

Your yellow certainly looks pretty good to me. I think that your painting and converting skills have certainly improved since you started posting here. I would suggest bulking out the terminator's waist a little as it seems really thin to me.

Oddly enough the terminator DID have some belt pouches and a parchment a while back but I forgot about them lol.

New head on the IF I think it screams more badass with the mutton stache.

I say go for it, I think it looks brilliant, nice and vivid!

Which colours did you used to make it (and the technique)?

I like the pose you've given him too, looks kind of like he's pushing his way forwards to meet the enemy. -Would I be correct in saying you made them from the normal 'standing' legs and the kneeling down legs from the command squad?

*edit - typos...

Yessir you are correct in spotting the legs!

The recipe is fairly simple

Hawk Turq+Chaos black basecoat about 70:30

Hawk turquoise pure, 2-3 thin layers

Hawk+ White 50/50 highlight

if you want more defined recesses mix chaos black and hawk again to make a "wash" (very watery) and go over the parts you want darkened.

Easy as that!

Some finely posed and painted miniatures here Terminatorinhell! Your painting's improved massively since the last time I saw your handiwork, well done indeed on that! :) I think to improve your teal blue marine, maybe a thin wash of Asurmen Blue will help to add depth to him. The pose is sublime though.
