Adarul Greystalker
I was honestly hoping that we would see either Morkai's or Redmaw's Great Company in IA 11. I thought that we needed a bit more sneakiness in our codex, and I'm glad that ForgeWorld is willing to provide it. I also hope that the eventual release will give us something that will work as a 13th Company analog, which I think remains to be seen. I'm concerned that these rumors about Redmaw's transformation rules and restrictions on units he can join might make him difficult to use if not kind of awful. If he ends up working similarly to a thunderwolf lord running with a bunch of fenrisian wolves and being able to keep up with them, it could be pretty cool, but if he has to be an infantry footslogger without scout or fleet or anything, I'm indeed concerned. I also share the sentiment that this doesn't look like a lot of rules-and-models meat and potatoes for us Space Wolves in IA 11. I'll be pleased if there's a lot of good fluff and Redmaw turns out to be better than these rumors currently suggest, but otherwise, I'm afraid I might have to share in a bit of the disappointment that seems to be floating around in this thread. MalachiOfRuss
This IA book definitely seems like it is far more about new Eldar and IG models. SW seems to be thrown in perhaps because "it's a snow world... I guess Space Wolves makes sense." Ranwulf
Hey, Space Wolves getting some love for a change? Good enough for me, since I have never expected really Forgeworld making the Thunderwolves models. Actually, I have this weird feeling that they are not even going to appear for another whole year... Bran Redmaw company full of MoTW is cool, but I hope the models are good! Chapter Master Ignis Domus
I'd say it's actually a good thing GW is doing the TW, as they will be cheaper and easier to buy, with no shipping. I am disappointed by the rest of the expected IA, though. Eldar and Guard aren't better than us! Night Runner
It seems from this review on BOLS that there will be very little Space Wolves in IA11. Apparently it will focus mostly on Eldar, just like KASTOREL-NOVEM focused on OrKs with very little Raven Guard. Here is the deluding snippet from the article: 'Few months off yet, still finalizing the fluff at the beginning. Focuses on Eldar, with some guard and a tiny smidge of Wolves. All eldar models ever made have rules in it, so no need to carry multiple books.' I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for generic priests and TWC, no matter what the article says. Adarul Greystalker
Honestly, if IA11 is to Space Wolves as IA8 is to Raven Guard, I think I'll be pleased. The Forge World Raven Guard models and conversion bits are beautiful. I can imagine them making mark of the wulfen style conversion bits for Redmaw's Great Company, as well as maybe some general Space Wolf conversion bits. That combined with a (hopefully) fun new army variant would be pretty cool. MaveriK
I have full confidence on GW making a proper thunderwolf. They held off long enough to look at all the 3rd party thunderwolves out there to form a basis and get a good idea on how it should look. Not to mention, it's a smart move... kinda like how certain mobile companies wait for the competition to incorporate all the tech into their own. Just look at the Warsphinxes/Necrosphinx for the tomb kings, imagine the detail and work GW will do for thunderwolves, and our second wave in general. The thing that is nagging me about GW Thunderwolves is... well Fangir. I assume they are going to use it as some sort of template to make it match together if they make plastics which means they might also be mutant-squirrel halfbreeds, just slightly smaller than Fangir. MaveriK
@Sarapham, I understand your concern, but as I've mentioned before... and let's pretend and say that GW is smart to see, and realize that there are allot of people out there using 3rd party thunderwolf proxies and conversion work. I believe Fangir was just a fish with a hook. As most people and companies aren't going to admit certain faults.. like how Fangir the model ended up looking. If GW is smart, they would realize that the model is not appealing aesthetically.. a reason why a huge majority of people are converting their own and or buying 3rd party thunderwolves. It's all about profit! if GW wants to make capital, then the product has to compete from said 3rd parties. A reason why I believe they held off so long in making thunderwolves. We even have instances of "positive" comments from known high ranking GW staff/writers while looking at 3rd party thunderwolves during tournaments. And they know those aren't their models! Now if your a smart businessman, you would jump at the opportunity to make an official thunderwolf to make more profit, and at the same time screw over the 3rd party companies and people who bought 3rd party thunderwolves. Money money money, it's all about the money. How does GW do that? you compete with the competition and make a better product. And if your discouraged because you think Fangir is still going to be used as a mold... then I'd suggest you take a good look at the recent plastic bits that GW has put out. From our own plastic bits, blood angels bits to the new grey knights! Heck even look at fantasy bits. Tomb kings for instance... so yeah if you still think Fangir will be a basis for thunderwolf then okay, but I hope your wrong. Common logic would/should suggest differently from all I've said now and previously. I'm not saying it's going to be easy for GW. But from what I've seen that's come out from them recently with their plastics, "common sense" tells me that the future is at least very hopeful. I know completely what you mean and I sincerely hope that they rethink it. But the quality of the plastics and such have no real bearing right now on the pure aesthetics of the model, since a metal model usually has more detail and is more welldone than a large plastic one, even though it´s 2 years old soon. Meaning that when they did Fangir that was they imagined how a Thunderwolf would look like with as much detail as possible afforded by a metal model, and if they make new ones they in a way kinda have to follow that through to atleast make the new ones kinda similar otherwise it is a huge admission to the crowd that Fangir was a f-up. MalachiOfRuss
I too think that they purposefully held off on T-Wolves to ensure that they "get it right." I think Canis and Fangir was indeed a "test" to see what they could do and how it would be received. I think if Canis and Fangir would have been better received we would have seen TWC be released sooner and look similar to the Canis and Fangir models. Since they were not well received, I think they held off on it so that they could take the time to get it right. Emperor's Scourge
A lot of positive thinkers here I see. Personally, I think they held back the plastic T-Wolves to double dip into people's pockets. They put out a huge expensive single metal model expecting people to buy it since it was the only one they had on the market. Then planned on releasing a plastic kit to make people buy them all over again...because the only model they had, Fangir, sucked. We'll see if my cynicism is misplaced in Fall 2011. Vassakov
I'm going to be controversial - I'm not that bothered about a lack of SW goodies from FW. I mean, we've got one TDA upgrade plus the full plastic kit, a very good plastic box set with all the customisation you could ever want when combined with the existing range and a couple of nice models for IC's (Grimnar and Njal) as well as a Dreadnought, Land Raider and Rhino doors and the Brass etchings sheets. A Resin Wolf Lord, and maybe some unique shoulder pads sounds about right to me. Apart from anything else, it's hardly as if we're under catered for. We know that TWC are in the pipeline (personally I despise the concept, but YMMV.) The IA books are about exploring individual moments and slightly off the beaten track concepts, rather than full scale armies (DKoK being the amusing exception.) I think a nice tome of background material and a neat character model would be nice, but the Eldar haven't had anything for a good while so I'll not begrudge them some love. Grey Mage
Im not dissapointed at all, and not just because I also play eldar. We are IN the story. There are going to be rules, there are going to be scenarios, and theres going to be alot of FLUFF. This is great. Who cares about the models at this point, I can always make models- converting is FUN guys- but rules that my gaming group can look at an go 'hey, yeah, thats not so bad...' and a campaign that me and my eldar playing friend can throw down for? Yeah, thats epic. This is awesome, Ive been waiting for this for years. The Space Wolves also got a massive release with IA 9-10. Just like every other Chapter. what massive release? ;) Really? Night Runner
On the latest issue of Portal magazine, which you can download here, there is a short reference about IA11 saying that they will probably be focusing on Bran's great Company and that means Wulfen models.
