So i am planning my new grey knights army and here is what i am planning to buy

Grey knight forces

Lord draigo

Inquisitor Coteaz

9 paladins

Brother hood champion

10 purifiers

40 terminators

3 dreadknights

This comes out to about £360 which is under my budget yay :(

so first of all any comments? this is supposed to be a fun army thats a bit mad on the table, hence 50 terminators and 3 dreadknights.

Coteaz is in there as i just like the model

I am using draigo as i wanted a terminator hq and again i like the model. I'm sure if i want some times i can count him as a master of chapter.

about painting, i am thinking about getting army painter plate metal. For my Blood angels i used their dragon fire red which i really liked and i found that there was no need for an undercoat beneath it.

does anyone know about the platemail spray? will it need an undercoat.

in all the pictures the grey knights have wonderfully eerie glowing eyes. I like them and i was wondering how they are painted so that the glow spills over onto the face. i tried on a scrap model and it just looked like i'd painted the eyes way too big.

also the power weapons. to be honest i'm not a fan on the NMM on the GW website. is there a way to do subtler nmm. if not how is best to paint them? i'm worried that blued metal might blend in with the armour but i cant think what else would work.

lastly. the purifiers. i may want to take them as something else another time and the sprue only has 5 helmeted heads. how could i have magnetized versions to swith out? or should i just maek it clear at the beginning what they are?

Thanks, any help is appreciated

OK Coteaz I can understand taking if you like the model, and he's pretty cool. However at least take a henchman band with him. Also for the love of god don't take draigo unless you really want his special rules, just take a Terminator Grandmaster with things like a psycannon and some silly grenades and he comes out to less than draigo and still have a 4++, yes draigo has eternal warrior, but the reason you pay 275 for the guy is to get pallys as troops...which you aren't. go ahead and use him as your HQ if you like the model, but points wise I would just go with a grandmaster with some fun upgrades (no psycannon if you use draigo's model, but that's ok).

As for the painting, I'm awful at that, so I can't help you there. the heads on purifiers should be easy to magnetize if you use small magnets, just gotta be careful doing it.

Best of luck to you on your project

Friend of mine used a metalic spray from the army painter range. Think it was plate mail (TBH not sure if they do another colour in metal). They came out really nice.

You do need to be a bit careful with them though as I am sure you noticed with the red as they can go on heavy.

Subsequently the necrons were dipped in dark tone and I have to be honest they came out pretty nicely. With the Grey Knights level of detail I would be highly dubious of dipping those and be extremly careful with the spray itself.

Just a few of my observations that might be of use

As for 50 terminators. How big is your army list going to be

Best regards

I'd recommend using a Librarian over a Brotherhood Champion. More miles per point, by far.

Also for painitng, I think that GK's on the GW site are actually metallic silver, washed then highlighted. Should know for sure in a week.

Stay away from the Army painter plate mail spray. There is a thread about it over on Beasts of War... the stuff looks like crap (in their own promo picture!) even when dunked in Dark Tone. Just overbrush chainmail, black wash, highlight chainmail.
