henrywalker
so i want to make some bases like these: http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/temple-...html?cPath=3_27 I haven't tried this technique yet but i was hoping you guys could tell me what you think. I'd start with high density cork board, about 7mm thick. next i would make my tools. these would basically be metal shapes. some i would make of wire, some can be found (like metal type blocks for marking leather) i would have a load in runic shapes and then some circles, lines etc. i'd lay the cork board out and using a candle or similar heat the metal symbols 1 by 1 before burning the symbols into the board in patterns. then i would break this large sheet up and i think/hope that this would provide slaps of ruined temple similar to the pictures. One issue i have is this. These bases are for my new Grey knights army which contains over 50 terminators and about 70 models total. the temple would have had to be massive for all of the models to be on there. it might be too much. If i just used these for the main models (characters and paladins) then what sort of lesser base would work with them? GooseDaMoose
Can't they just be in a massive temple? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225133-temple-bases/#findComment-2694372 Share on other sites
Durus
I think it would be a lot easier and faster if you make a negative form of the temple floor (as in all the recesses would have to be modeled as raised) and pour it with some model plaster. Then I'd just break the floor tile into little pieces and glue them onto the bases. You can even get some brass etched or plastic lettering from a craft store or a model railway shop and use this to add some detail. This way you would only have to add symbols or caulking once. (Not sure caulking is the right word, I mean the recesses between tiles.) It would also leave slightly better structure on the fractured sides of the tile. If you put some superglue on the plaster it should be hard enough to withstand frequent handling (for gaming purposes) without wear.
