hairojin
Lately I've been doing well with my daemons and I thought that I would share my list and thoughts about it with you guys. This post is not about asking for advice about my armylist but more about me sharing my experience with my list, so please don't move it to the armylist section. HQ Bloodthirster -Unholy might -Blessing of the blood god Herald of Tzeentch -Chariot -Bolt of Tzeentch -Master of sorcery -We are legion Herald of Tzeentch -Bolt of Tzeentch -Master of sorcery -We are legion ELITE 4 Bloodcrushers -Fury of Khorne -Icon -Musician 3 Flamers TROOPS 9 Horrors -Changeling -Icon -Bolt of Tzeentch 8 Bloodletters 8 Bloodletters HEAVY Daemon Prince -Mark of Tzeentch -Wings -Breath of Chaos Soul Grinder -Phlegm Soul Grinder -Phlegm My opponents have been shooty/counterassaulty Space Wolves, shooty/counterassaulty Blood Angels, Tyranids, IG with lots valkyries/vendettas and All-Tzeentch Chaos Marines so far. My unit analysis: Bloodthirster: What a guy! He never disappoints me, he can take a lot of punishment and also throw some hard hitting swings. I usually aim him at the biggest baddest thing in my opponents list and then just smile as I watch him take skulls for the skull throne. In one game against Space Wolves my opponent aimed every gun in his army against him and only managed to take him down to one wound left. In other games he has beaten down death company with lemartes, tzeenth daemon princes with warptime, hive tyrants, mawlocs and countless tanks. He doesn't do so well against regular infantry with high Ld though. They can keep him locked up for some turns which is bad for me since I need his high strength elsewhere. But that hasn't happened lately since I started running him with his new best pal, my Tz daemon prince. Daemon Prince: I imagine him and my BT jumping around the battlefield giving high-fives to eachother after every kill they make. These two guys together has been an unstoppable force. Breath gives them an edge against infantry so they don't get bogged down easily if I get the charge, and with wings I usually do. Just keep him out of rapid fire range and he will do amazing things together with big bro BT. His favourite opponents are tanks and elite infantry. Things he don't like: Riflemen Dreadnoughts, Baal Predators, Gargoyls. The key to using these two guys are positioning. Which can be hard on the first turn with bad scatter rolls. I always keep them close by eachother for support, even when they don't go after the same target. Bloodcrushers: These guys add a lot to my army. Some games they wreak havoc, other games they don't do much more than draw a lot of fire, which is not a bad thing. I field them with all upgrades to benefit from wounds alocation. It makes me feel little dirty but since I only have one squad it's not too bad. Fun moments in game: Once caught a 10 man BA assault squad with character in the open. After the assaultphase only one very lonely and very afraid marine was left standing. Same game my opponent charged them with a dreadnought and I blew it up immidietly with a rending hit ;) Another game vs IG, he dropped in a squad of stormtroopers, rapidfired and wiped my whole squad in one shooting phase. That's the only time they have failed to deliver. more to come... hairojin
Time to continue the unit analysis, please feel free to comment anything and share your own thoughts and experiences. Flamers These guys never really work for me, usually they scatter onto something if I try to use them aggressive in the first turn they deep strike. If I try to hold them back they do a little better but they have to hug cover and that limits their impact since my opponent can choose to keep away from them. I know that they would get a lot better if would field another squad or two but I can't find points for it without taking something away from my list that I really want to keep. Also I don't want to remove them completely, they do scare my opponents and don't always fail to deliver. Another reason for keeping them is that I am really proud of how I painted them. I see them as a fun element in my list that have great potential but they are nowhere essential in my list. Funny story, once against tyranids my opponent charged in with 15 gargoyles or so against two flamers. He rolled badly and didn't kill any of them, in return I killed one of his. He was out of synapse range, missed his Ld roll, I rolled a six on initiativ and my two raging flamers ran his whole squad of gargoyles down leaving him with a very surprised look on his face ;) Horrors I have a strange love for these guys that I can't really explain. I've used them in 15 man (?) squads with and without herald, several smaller squads without heralds and as in my current setup 9 man squad with herald. For me they work best as anti-infantry without bolt. I've never had any success with bolt, neither in MSU or a larger unit with bolt and two heralds also with bolt. They are very fragile in assault I almost never get a shot against back or side armour without coming so close to my enemy that he can wipe them out in his next turn. I always try to keep them just within 18" away from my enemy so they don't get charged. They are resilient against shooting and a good platform for an Icon. Later in the game when their numbers go down I head for an objective they can camp on. In my current set up I use them mostly for shooting at infantry boosted by the heralds gaze, the herald will also make use of we are legion and bolt to take pot shots against armour. If there's no infantry in range I might use both bolts against armour. I've found that bolt is really weak on a BS 3 or 4 model so I'm thinking about changing my set up. Edit: My friend that plays All Tzeentch marinesis on his way over for a game right now. I've decided to try out a slightly different list: HQ Bloodthirster -Unholy might -Blessing of the blood god Herald of Tzeentch ELITE 4 Bloodcrushers -Fury of Khorne -Icon -Musician 3 Flamers TROOPS 9 Horrors -Changeling -Icon 8 Bloodletters 8 Bloodletters FAST 8 Flesh Hounds -Karanak HEAVY Daemon Prince -Mark of Tzeentch -Wings -Bolt of Tzeentch Soul Grinder -Phlegm Soul Grinder -Phlegm I'll try to remember to take some pictures. After the game I'll write down my reasoning for the change in my list and also how the game went.
