maverik_girl
I dunno how to do battle reports... so bare with me. I won against our yellow colored space marine brothers. Mind you it was 1000pts, and not the 500pts I was told to prepare for. I'll get better with the battle reports once I start playing more, I think I might have another go at it next weekend? anyway, my list was pretty much "as Russ intended" Wolf Priest attached to Grey Hunters, I had about four full packs of Grey Hunters, one Wolf Priest attached to a pack. A Rune Priest attached on another. I wanted to try out the Grey Hunters without they Wolf Guard pack leaders, they did exceptional. I'll have to try out the attached Wolf Guard to have a better grasp, comparison and understanding between the two. Anyway, I also tested out a full pack of Fenrisian Wolves, that was fun! I had one wolf scout pack, and two lone wolves. One lone wolf just had power armor. I wanted to see which lone wolf died faster... both equally brought mayhem on the table. I had allot of long fangs, two packs. One pack was my missile spam. Another was a mixture of, two plasma cannon's, two heavy bolters, and the rest lascannons. My game was pretty bloody! having the Wolf Priest attached to Grey Hunters is scary! they ate troops in close combat. Rune Priest was very handy! Living Lightning for the win!!! and Murderous Hurricane so awesome! I threw my one lone wolf towards a terminator unit. My opponent thought he could take the lone warrior down quickly. He was wrong! I had my one Grey Hunter pack positioned in rapid fire against his terminators just in case and when the lone wolf would fall. The lone wolf tied down that squad for a good two rounds of combat, took down 3 terminators, until he ate a power fist. By then my Grey Hunters just rapid fired the remaining terminators to the last man. The Fenrisian Wolves did as I hoped. They came in from reserve, on the third round. screened my one Long Fang pack, lost a few. They got into combat pretty quickly, slowed down an assault squad, until they made a run for it. By then I was down to seven Fenrisian wolves. My opponent had a nasty dreadnought that ate up one of my Grey Hunter packs, but fortunately my other lone wolf came in right after and slowed him down for the rest of the game. My wolves stayed away from the dreadnought and focused on the objectives and other units. My wolf scouts came in and blew up a vindicator, which was my major concern. They ended up dying real quick after from getting shot at. Long Fangs took out a predator, that was cool. I lost one Long Fang from a plasmacannon.. rolled poorly :*( that was sad but funny at the same time. Poor Sven... By the time my last lone wolf died, my lascannon's and plasma cannons immobilized and destroyed the weapons on the dreadnought. That's all I can think of right now, I captured 3 objectives when my opponent took only 1. It was a fun game, I was actually sweating.. I was that nervous during some intense dice rolls. My main thoughts are.... Wolf Priest are awesome! and power armored lone wolves I think do just as great, and are cheaper! and Wolf Scouts.... I don't think I'll ever leave home without them! oh and mark of the wulfen, so great. Every Grey Hunter pack must have a mark with the wulfen! I hope I'm not missing anything. I lost allot of good men, but not as much as my opponent. I ran allot during the first turn, only because I didn't expect to play 1000pts. We drew in a good crowd, and people were genuinely very friendly towards me. I heard someone mention "great white buffalo" I'm thinking that was towards me, I looked at them and said.. "unicorn!" Ohh and is it me, or when you walk in a GW store.. (it's where I played) do you ever feel hassled by the employees? especially if they at first don't know you play. They hover over you, watching you look at the blisters, as if I was going to steal something from their store haha. Every two minutes its... "can I help you with anything?" Umm.. no thank you, if I needed your help, I'd ask. They stopped when Mav came in after he parked the car and brought in my army. He left me behind and that was that. It was the first time I played without help or supervision from him. I was a little scared and worried at first, I did forget little things with the rules but everyone was helpful. So that's it! my first official game. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225247-first-official-win-playing/ Share on other sites
old git
Excellent result for a first time and not bad for a write up either. If you want to do more reports I suggest you take a look at the Liber Victorum section, where people post their battle reports. The general format is; Brief introduction, including points levels, mission played and opponents list (if remembered or available). A turn by turn description, usually broken down into the three phases (kept short normally, otherwise it can turn into War and Peace). The result, followed by a short analysis of what went wrong or what worked. Games Workshops the world over are generally the same. The staff are trained a certain way, ie jump on a potential customer and try and sell him/her stuff. Until they know otherwise this is usually what happens, whether the store is in Canada or UK. Well done again. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225247-first-official-win-playing/#findComment-2695496 Share on other sites
Emperors Immortals
Great work maverik_girl and gratz on the win!!!!! I can see that MaveriK had better watch out lol Lone wolves are scary as an opponent, they take a lot to die even in PA, and im glad to hear your priest made such a difference! Do you think you may take a second pack of Wolf Scouts at higher level games? Just one request - PICS!!! lots of pictures, or else - as they say on the internet - IT DIDNT HAPPEN (although we all believ you anyway). Also, "the" great white buffalo was a writer (and complete mad genius) Dr.Hunter S.Thompson - too rare to live - and shot out of a cannon at his funeral by Johnny Depp - RIP. (although they may have meant the fact there was an actual GIRL in the store playing WH40k - and doing well - ZOMG!!!) Nrthstar
Glad to hear of the win! I've had the same experience with the GW store in White Marsh, Maryland. I was on a business trip, so I didn't have any of my stuff with me, but I wanted to take a look around. As soon as I walked in, the guy working there asked if I needed any help, and then followed me around the shop. He didn't stop till I left. They must work on commission or have a bad theft problem. Grimfoe
Congrats. It's nice to see you on the boards and hear of you playing in the store. I've been teaching my daughter to play and bringing her to the store on occasion. She's feeling a little outnumbered. maverik_girl
Thanks for the replies guys! So I have a question... if i decide to take two packs of wolf scouts in the future, how would most of you have them operate? has anyone used one pack for tank hunting and another as a sniper team? or do most people just do two packs that do tank hunting? TheLastHuzzah
It would seem the internet didn't like my first post and threw it out the window. First, congrats on your victory; may you have many more. Regarding the Wolf Scouts, I think you will find that most people who run multiple squads do so as tank hunters (5-6 w/ meltagun, plasma pistol, and an attached WGPL w/ Combi melta & PF). The main reason is that if they bust even one tank, they've probably doubled your points investment into them. Even if one squad does absolutely nothing, you can easily "break-even". A second tank hunting squad also helps mitigate bad die rolls (lady luck can be a real <expletive deleted>). To answer your question on the sniper scouts, I would say that they are absolutely viable in the 1250 and lower games. Above that, there are better uses for points. To give an example, I had a 6-man scout squad (5 sniper 1 ML) lock-down an ork biker squad (killing 1-2 a turn and pinning). ML guy gives you anti-vehicle & anti-infantry capability, and there is an outside chance that your sniper rifles can destroy light transports & vehicles (Penetrate AV11, Glance AV12). -Huzzah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225247-first-official-win-playing/#findComment-2697050 Share on other sites
