dragonknight4275
Ok, ok, so I MIGHT start Space Wolves....Meaning I kinda am......Over a while.....Yeah.....Ok anyway, I'm exploiting the fact that Wolves can have up to 4 HQ choices by bringing a Rune Priest, a Wolf Lord, and a Battle Leader to the table in my army. But this post isn't about the Rune Priest. I'm stuck on what wargear to give to either the Wolf Lord or the Battle Leader. See: What to Split Terminator Armour Frost Weapon Storm Shield Thunder Hammer Thunderwolf Mount or Jump Pack So what would you do? What would you give to who? Thanks. matt01price
One rather popular idea is taking the frost weapon, storm shield, runic armour (then he can still go in a rhino whilst getting the 2+) and maybe saga of the warrior born..... this should result in one rather kick rear end lord who'd be reliable against opposition HQs and super units and positively lethal when tearing apart squads of light to moderate infantry. I wouldn't take the jump pack as (slips into gruff barbarian accent) i'll keep my boots on the ice thanks son (back to normal) and you'd either have to put the HQ with sky claws (see the post running at the moment for advice) but which are generally regarded as sub standard for the codex and in comparison to grey hunters, OR you could put the HQ with jump packing wolf guard which would be extremly expensive and totally unfluffy (more barbarian grumblings) As for the thunderwolf mount i've heard you would get good results but my opinion isn't too reliable here as i've haven't fielded them and that the models will be terriebly expensive £££(or $$$) wise. hope it helps Praise Russ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225254-hq-wargear-what-for-who/#findComment-2695562 Share on other sites

I was kinda leaning toward termie armour for the Battle leader anyway. <_< Since he will be riding in a redeemer with 5 wolf guard (termie armour of course), I think that's the better option. But for the poor Wolf Lord, should he have a Thunderwolf and join a Thunder-cav unit or take the jump pack and go with the Skyclaws? AAAAA ALL THESE DECISIONS! clanfield
i feel a wolf lord is best served in the thick of the fight id rather have wolf guard with him it is expensive but also fun ,i like thunder wolves but there bulliet magnets as to termies i run 4 wolf guard (5 but 1 attached) in t armour 1 heavy flamer/wcl,1 stm b/pf,1 twin wc,1stm,pwpn with my battle leader stm shield frost blade in a drop pod i support that with a dread twin hvy flam, dccw flmr and grey hunters x10 2 fl 1 pwpn in pods while the rest of my blood claws and grey hunters deploy via rhinos at the back grey hunters and long fangs i guess it depends upon your force make up realy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225254-hq-wargear-what-for-who/#findComment-2695586 Share on other sites

I love the feel and fluff of battle leaders but the lord would be a better choice. I'm running three wolf guard squads along with (predicted) three Grey Hunter packs and a Blood Claw pack. There'll be 3 Landspeeders for FA and then the redeemer and a long fangs pack for support. I'm trying for 2000-2500 points here, but if that's too expensive I'll chip off a Grey Hunter unit. On the other hand, if it's too little, I'll add the battle leader back in. morehardcore
why bother with the battle leader get 2 wolf lords instead for gear i suggest giving both thunder and fenrisian wolves for weapons frost blades and belts or wolf claws and storm shields. also give the runic armor. dont bother giving them a unit they dont need the protection if u do get the battle leader give him whatever you would give a lord. i dont really like battle leaders tho cause they have a bad statline for a HQ and for 25 points more (which ull spend on gear any way) u can get a rune preist or wolf priest who are both better. wolf lords should be used as their own units dont give them body guards (except wolves) as the body guards arent really needed for killing. skyclaws arent too good but a wolf priest makes the best babysitter for them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225254-hq-wargear-what-for-who/#findComment-2695683 Share on other sites

I could have the Lord lead them on a Thunderwolf. If I do put the lord on a thunderwolf, should I give him a frost blade or a thunder hammer? The second weapon is automaticallly going to be a storm shield.
