Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor

Recommended Posts

"'Chaos claims the unwary or the incomplete. A true man may flinch away its embrace, if he is stalwart, and he girds his soul with the armour of contempt."

- Gideon Ravenor, The Spheres of Longing

Many of you will no doubt have seen Inache's conversion of Ravenor using one of the left over turrets from his Stormravens. After asking him if it was ok, I thought I'd have a go at making my own version of the famed Inquisitor using some plasticard, whatever bits I can find that are useful and you guessed it, the turret I'm not using on my Stormraven. So after an evening's cutting, sticking, filing, more cutting and not a little cursing this is what I have so far;

http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/GideonRavenor1.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/GideonRavenor2.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/GideonRavenor3.jpg

The holes in the sides will be filled in with greenstuff and I'm gonna have a rummage through my bits box for some nice 'techy' looking stuff to add to the back along with a few cables. Not too much, as most of the lifesupport functions of Ravenor's support chair is hidden inside it, but enough to add a little detail. I'm also going to add a couple of smaller panels using plasticard to represent his concealed psycannon pods.

Anyway, I'd love to know what you think, although I know there isn't really much to look at

cheers

James

If you want to get REALLY detailed with it, don't forget that he has a compartment on the front that contains his holo-rosette. There are also handles on the rear for when Ravenor has to be manually pushed.

EDIT:

Also just a thought, Ravenor is a high-gamma, low-delta level psyker unenhanced, but with his life support chair, his powers are boosted incredibly high (upwards of high beta/low alpha level, perhaps even higher). So perhaps incorporating some manner of wiring similar to a psychic hood on the back of the chair, to represent how it focuses and enhances his powers, as well as providing some manner of protection for him.

I've always contemplated how to go about building Ravenors life support chair. I've had a couple of go's with plasticard, but they never turned out the way I wanted. This version is a touch of genius and makes great use of the SR turret. A simple yet highly effective conversion and one I will be watching with interest.

The chair looks a bit like a Titan head - could be the basis for a Warhound scratch built too :)

It would probably be better size wise for a Knight Titan, but I thought Warhound because the front of the chair is similar to the "mouth" part of the Warhounds head.

@ Lestat and DarKHaZZl3: now that you mention it, it does look a little 'Warhound-ish' at the front. Completely unintentional, but a possible idea for the future nonetheless.

@ DV8: thanks for the suggestions, this is what I've come up with so far:

http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/GideonRavenor6.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/GideonRavenor5.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/GideonRavenor4.jpg

combination psychic enhancer/hood/coffee maker :)

I'm gonna try and make some handles to go on the back using cut down paperclips and I might add a few more smaller cables to the top of the 'psyhic hood' once the g/s cures and is cleaned up a bit.

cheers

Although the "combination psychic enhancer/hood/coffee maker" is a good idea, it looks a little bolted on. I would be tempted to use some plasticard and GS to try and smoothe out the join so it looks part of the chair itself.

Plus, would not the extra caffiene boost play havok with Ravenors psychic abilities?

Thanks for the responses brothers,

@ Inache: thanks, although I don't think that mine's better than yours, more a different interpretation of your idea.

@ Lestat: hopefully the photos below look a little better. I've added a few extra bits to blend the machinery at the back into the chair  and yeah I think you're right, Ravenor probably would want recaf being pumped into him, well not on any kind of regular basis anyway...

@ Terminatorinhell: If there's one thing that my last few projects has taught me it's that if you want to try something, then you should. I think my interpretation of Ravenor could be vastly improved upon, but I've had quite a bit of fun putting him together. Also I've found that the best way to learn how to do something (in this case working with plasticard) you should take the plunge because you'll probably end up being pleasantly surprised, I certainly have ;).

So, last photos before I give Gideon some primer:

http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/Ravenor10.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/Ravenor9.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/Ravenor8.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/Ravenor7.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Inquisitor%20Gideon%20Ravenor/Ravenor11.jpg

I've added panels to the front and sides for his holo-rosette and paired psycannon respectively. I've also added a few more cables to the back and thanks to DV8, handles to allow Ravenor's chair to be pushed should the need arise. The last photo shows my attempts to recreate something akin to the plates on the bottom of landspeeders to represent the chair's anti-gravity capability.

c&c still welcome

cheers

That plasticard spacer between the chair and psychic enhancer has made quite a bit of difference - it looks an intended part of of the chair now.

I'm liking the simplicity of the handles. When you mentioned making some, I imagined Gideon looking like some 40k shopping trolley for some reason..........

The anti-grav plates are a touch of genius and make perfect sense. The extra wires are a nice touch as well.

Definately watching this with interest. I just need to find some extra cash and get me a 'Raven!
