Animal life on Fenris

I am just wondering if you wise old long fangs can provide me with some info on the animal inhabitants of Fenris. I know about the sea dragon and troll etc from the ragar books but i want to know about drakes, mammoths, the kraken and any other beasts there might be. Pictures of such beasts would be very useful.

Also would the space wolves take any skins/talismans from beasts other than wolves?

I was thinking of adding a scaled cloak to my rune priest instead of the usual fur, to show that he had killed a sea dragon or drake or something. Would this look to out of place next to all the wolf cloaks?

search function is your friend! as for other beast, you forget the pelt of doppegangrel. and the fact that we have a kraken egg in our halls, along with other beast that Russ or other heroes have slain.

:P USE SEARCH FUNCTION, ITS YOUR FRIEND! :P

Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine. It's almost as worst as when people say they didn't find anything when they used the search, when truthfully they didn't try hard enough or was just to lazy to spend the two minutes to look through the results, and just said they couldn't find anything.

Older threads, just to name a few. But still insightful and helpful.

@Brother Ramses, I'll keep that in mind highness! especially the next time I plan on adding more onto the clutter, and recurring threads we have pop-up, once every few days or weeks in this forum. Unless you prefer always reading threads about what people use for Fenrisian Wolves? or What Thunderwolves people use and what's legal to use? am I forgetting something? but your right highness, I should just post them the links to the older/similar threads because people will never learn how to do it themselves, since other people do it for them. No wait, you meant not to nerd rage right? my bad on that.. I guess the sarcasm key on my keyboard is on order from Forgeworld still.

--EDIT--

no wait? was I suppose to say "first" in my first comment? I totally suck at this.... my bad!

to be fair the search function often doth bring more unwanted things than not , and displays several threads that have naught to do with anything you searched :/ , still nice to use it but honestly if i spend more than 15 minutes using the search function to no avail I am posting a thread asking the question.

But then again my first instinct is to google the question so i already spent time looking before i even used the search button.

Your first instinct is a good instinct. Google does wonders. But if your spending more than 15min using the search function, its either you haven't specified your search with certain key words or there is something really wrong with the code in general. It's either because there are far to many related threads, but spending over 15min is a little much. It took/takes me less than five minutes to find what I need.. even if I'm going through the unwanted. My only concern is when people don't bother, or are to lazy to search. That's my only pet peeve.. or what highness says "search nerd rage" but I can understand if people forget, and it happens to the best of us.

"Search-Fu" isn't terribly difficult but it is a skill that needs to be learned. Search engines make it easier, like Google and so forth. Forum searches require a more fine tuned and specific query to be most effective.

That said, as the question was posed regarding the Fenresian Fauna, I would surmise that it isn't too different than Terran for the most part. An abundance of fish species would populate the seas along with the Kraken and Sea Serpents. As far as the land based we can all admit to the known and familiar species like; Crows and Raptors, common livestock like; chickens, goats, pigs and such; wild species would likely include boar, elk and stag among others. The Trolls as mentioned in the Ragnar Saga have various sub-species like; cave, swamp, lake and I'm sure there are others. I would WAG that there are predatory species in addition to the myriad of Wolf species and would likely include bears as well though not exclusively limited to these apex predators. As to specifics, there isn't much in the way of known or accepted canon in these regards. It doesn't seem too important from the powers that be within GW and so it is open to specuilation short of the little that is explicitly known. Wolves do exist on Fenris as do Crows, Trolls and Kraken.

I would say that the freedom to speculate (reasonably) is there for anyone willing to do so. As for what is reasonable or not, that depends on with whom one chooses to share such speculations. Keep in mind that regardless of the resemblance to any Terran species, the native names of the fauna may be something completely unfamiliar. For instance, what we among the forum may know and recognize as Elk, may be a Stag with an regional or other adjective incorporated in its name: Asaheim Stag or Higland Stag or Coastal Stag as examples. This is where your creativity comes into play. The name of a region, island, specific mountain or valley or whatever kind of modifier to the name to add color to its name as well as tie it in to a locality from which it is common to exist. If it is so common to exist in many regions then it could be described as Fenresian or similar.

I would wager that this general rule can be applied to any Homeworld or Planet within the 40K Universe. From sankes to shimp or prarie fowl or domesticated homing pidgeons, the creativity used in describing such can make anything not explicitly nor exclusively canon........accepted by others so long as it seems reasonably believable. Keep in mind that 'reasonably believable' in a fictional universe is leaving the door open pretty wide. Perhaps the Fenresian Stag has 3 pairs of legs instead of the familar Terran with only two. Maybe it has 4 pairs and antlers that resemble that of moose instead of the more pointed protrusions of its Terran counterpart.

There are no specificly hard and fast rules in a futuristic and imaginary universe so don't hold on too firmly for any absolute answers with these kinds of questions. Just sayin'.

I never meant to start an argument. I did try the search function, but I couldnt find exactly what i wanted, so I thought I would ask the questions that were specific to my needs.

Also I have been on this forum for 6 months and can't remember anything on this subject. It doesn't seem to be something that crops up every 2 weeks. The two links that you posted Maverik were from 5 and 4 years ago respectively so it cant hurt to have a new conversation now, there may be some new info around. For example there is some mention of animal life in Prospero burns and may be some in the Battle of the fang book that i don't know about.

Sorry if this sounds confrontational, it is not meant to be, though it is the space wolf way to challenge the older, wiser members of the pack. Even if we do get slapped back down into our place.

The second part of my post is what I am more interested in, would a scaled cloak look to out of place in your opinion? What would Drake skin look like? Would it be brightly coloured or a dull green or brown?

I know its up to me what I do with my minis but i wanted some other opinions.

Don't worry, little brother. Mav's obviously just having a bad day ;)

You wouldn't know it, but we are usually renowned for our hospitality here in the Fang :tu:

As to colour schemes, you can either refer to Warhammer Fantasy where beasties seem to have gone psychedelic or to the more subdued tones in Nordic myth.

Regards,

I suppose something looking similar to a Salamander or WHFB Corsair cloak would work for the visual part. Wouldn't be too out of character IMO. Coloring though would be completely your option. Avoiding any confusion with the Salamander Chapter or the WHFB Corsairs, perhaps a teal color choice would work with some shades of sea foam green for highlights or something similar. I think that would fit into the icy seas of Fenris without getting too blue ot too green. Think of the serpent from the 1980's Asia Album cover. Also think icy seas and go with what moves you in the way of color. I would think lighter rather than darker with wind blown white caps and such on the stormy seas, but that's just me.

I was thinking of using the Corsair cloak actually. There is a pretty good tutorial to make them fit power armour in the PCA section.

I'm liking the serpent on the Asia album cover as well, that's really how i picture the sea dragons of Fenris to look.

Thanks guys

Quick note on color: most aquatic predators tend to shades of gray. Never truly white or truly black.

Even alligators, which would probably be the closest real life analog to whatever you are envisioning with scales are more gray than green. I'd save any greens for the last highlight.

They hunt animals like Deers so thats 1, their are troll like creatures so that makes 2, Their are also Birds and fishes so alot more, than their are the Kraken and Various types of Wolves and Reptiles. So needless to say their are quite many animals on Fenris.
