Loyalist Death Guard Company

Recommended Posts

Tackling the project again after a short pause.

The Loyal Death Guard appeal to me being the Legion based on light infantrymen. Mortarion allowing his troops to arm up with whatever the task at hand needed. So the plan is pretty simple, I figured id establish a company sized task force of pretty much strictly foot sloggers with the ability to deal with whatever they might run into in hands. Am currently working on 5 SQDs tactical and 5 SQDS assault with 2 Dreads armed with assault cannons. The only planned vehicle is the Stormbird to get them in and outta theater. First Army here and have never set foot into and actually competition so Im probly way off on what an effective army would look like. Thanks for looking any ideas welcome.

The minigun was the first thing I was able to make that I liked, if you get the evergreen bag of assort styrene tube set you should be able to crank out a dozen of them with one purchase. I figured it would fill the gap between bolter and heavy bolter for cutting down enemy infantry by the dozen.

A Mortarion would be awesome, I’ll have to work through the rest of my army before id feel good about converting one for my company. Otherwise I won’t do him justice.

Oh no, i am artistry enepped I took the idea from BOLS. Bigred gives a pretty good clinic on it and made an awesome pdf. I have to be honest, I don’t think I would have started the project without good transfers to be able to use on them. Starting to get a lot better at getting them in place and looking painted on, once I seal them I am hoping it’ll be seamless.

Dornian Heresy, yes for sure. ^_^ That’ll keep me good on the fluff and armory end of things.

Thanks, I ordered a scout heavy bolter and they send two by accident so I ended up cutting off the front part and adding barrels up front, Ill take a better shot of it tonight. Once I perfect the underslung version I wouldnt mind a 1 in 5 ratio of the monsters. The overhand grip doesnt look right to me for some reason.

Ok So here is the route I took on the first Minigun

I am happy with how it turned out for me but it just doesn't look right over hand. I looked at what else I got left in the tube department and I was able to make two more that were more like the GE ones used today. I think that the underslung version will make them look alot better and more compact for taking a ride in stormbirds or MOUT ops. Maybe look a little more natural in the DG's hands.

So far this has been the only thing i've managed to create using GS or Styrene that I didnt later set on fire in shame. Sorry for the quality of pic, white on white confuses the camera for details.

NIce looking army, the minigun being underslung is the way to go. Keep in mind that perjury is the finest form of flattery when you see some thing similar on a certain chicken legged dreadnaught I'm working on. Those Bigred transfers were well implimented too.

Thanks for all the comments. I finally found that Dheneb Stone was the color I was looking for with the Army, I seem to be able to get that to go on smoothest and get the look I am looking for.

Heck yea Victory ill be looking out for it, I cant tell you for sure if that Storm Raven I did up doesn't end up looking like a A-10 with a much larger version up front. Im just not sure hwo to do it without over doing it.

All-natural, traditionally made, fat-free Awesomesauce. That's what this army is, ever since reading Galaxy In Flames & The Flight Of The Eisenstein I've had a great respect for the Pre-Heresy Death Guard.

Not sure why they would have a Storm Raven though, I'd have thought that'd be more in line with the Emperor's Children, Word Eaters and Night Lords combat styles.

No problem Dan, Bigred has done an amazing job with his army. Again I think I would have gone a total different direction on mine if it wasn’t for finding his article and help. I am glad I did for sure. Are you going to start a DG army as well? Keep us updated if so.

Thanks SanguiniusReborn, The yet to be built task force commander was able to acquire it for his troops. He uses it more of a utility vehicle than a gunship. I tried to cut it down a little bit to just some defensive weapons to leave room not only for supplies but maybe a couple apothecaries for medivac purposes. His troops run through bolter and mini gun ammo like water so it’s the best route he had without Rhino support.

I figured Id put two in one squad for a quick reaction force on my current section and call it done. Maybe add a veteran team and done for tac squads for now.

I want to start up 3 or 4 non-jump pack assualt squads next and see where I am at as far as a well rounded task force.

Sorry for the low quality pics on this one. The camera is dead and I had to use the old Blackberry camera.

Whatever Jesse Ventura can do with two hands a Astartes does with one. Right?

"Got time to duck"

Got a Squad in Mk III Armor to use as a first squad due to the amount of punishment it can take. Also three boxs of Khrone Bezerkers to convert to assault squads for a second element to the task force. Should have pics up by next week on progress.

+1. Seriously. No, make that +2. I'm really impressed with all of this, and in particular the miniguns, that is a fantastic idea.

The only comment I can make about "better" is it seems like the Scout helmets are a bit... homogenous? Maybe its just the picture not doing the reality justice... I think a wash on their helmets might help to pick out the details a bit more.

But seriously, everything is looking great, right down to the decals. I really like how the one on the Dreadnought Assault Cannon arm goes over the edge. No military vehicle artist I've ever known allows something like an edge of the vehicle stop him from continuing his painting :(

Awesome, thanks Wycked any kind of ideas are greatly welcome. I can do washes for sure ill give that a shot, I tried some weathering powder with disastrous results for me so that may be out till I get better with it. I left them all unsealed for now till I find something that works.

The scouts defiantly deserve the most weather or detail for sure being as they are in the grit and wouldn't be as clean as battleplate would be for normal battle brothers.

Ok so maybe I have to throw in my own mod on the Raven. My intent for my Death Guard task force is to be pretty much a light infantry organization. That being said I like the support/troop transports to fill a role much like they do currently, so instead of slick like I originally had it or with those crazy light bolters I went with this.

http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/Death_Guard_Trooper/StormRaven.jpg

Heavy Bolters for more of a door gunner look, as well as heavier firepower for support.

I doubt any of my models will fill any sort of role on the game board so thats not a worry to me, but ideas are always welcome!

Finally an update, with work and spreading myself to thin on which way to go Ive made some progress. Not to mention it took me about a month of my available time to sand down 80 Astarte's chest plates and purity seal. Now all I have to do is arm them up and get them painted hahahaha.
