Brother Baphomet
Hello all, I've been thinking about doing Dark Angels again for some time, as they were my second army way back when Codex: Angels of Death came out. Having to move house meant I had to put it on hold for a while though. Anyhow, now all that's done, and I had more spare cash than I thought, I went and bought a ton of stuff in one go to get me motivated. Here's what I've got to build... http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/cythron/Dark%20Angels/DA1.jpg As you can't really tell from the pic, here's what's there... Company Master Terminator Chaplain Chaplain (putting a jump pack on him) 3 x Assault Terminators 2 x Terminators 2 x Dreadnoughts Venerable Dreadnought 2 x Tactical Marines 2 x Assault Marines 3 x Landspeeders Sammael on jetbike 5 x Ravenwing boxes 2 x Predators Vindicator Land Raider Land Raider Crusader Land Raider Achilles Land Raider Prometheus (to make a Cerberus pattern Land Raider - the one with all heavy bolters) 4 x Razorbacks 3 x Drop Pods 4 x Dark Angel Upgrade Sprues Plus various other bits, like meltaguns, plasmaguns, chirurgeons backpacks (to make Apothecaries with) and a Terminus Ultra frame. Added to that, I already had.. AoBR Captain 10 x AoBR Marines 5 x Aobr Terminators AoBR Dreadnought A few other spare Marines All I need to get now is a Terminator Librarian, another LR Crusader and a Baneblade (to make a Fellblade). I don't mind the modelling side of it - but I'm quite slow at painting, and I'm not that good really so I probably won't be displaying any of my stuff on here! Thanks for looking - see you in a couple of years! :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225334-my-long-path-to-redemption-starts-here/ Share on other sites
EtriX
Well someone obviously had more money than what good for them. This seems like an awesome project, I hope that you have something fun to relax with during painting cause that's gonna take a lot of hours. But I'm looking forward to see this army take shape. Go Nuts! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225334-my-long-path-to-redemption-starts-here/#findComment-2696515 Share on other sites
Brother Baphomet
Hehe thanks! I've been off work for two weeks due to an operation so I've been building like mad before I have to go back! Chapter Master Ignis Domus
This should be very, very interesting. How long until you start posting pictures? Brother Baphomet
This should be very, very interesting. How long until you start posting pictures? Thanks! The AoBR stuff I've got was already assembled when I got it, and in the last two weeks I've put together the drop pods, razorbacks, LR and LR Crusader, started work on the dreads and assault termys. :D <-- how I'm feeling now! I've got an idea for blinging up Belials Crusader, but as I'm real slow due to work/home life it'll be a while before I post anything. I'm planning an Apocalypse game sometime in the summer so I'd like to get as much done as I can for that - not bothered if it's painted up or not, just so long as it's built. Master Avoghai
Well it seems that I'm not the only one jumping into tons of modelling/painting for apoc game. Since I approach the end of my deadline, maybe I can give a few advices. -Use the army painter spray cans for basic colour. The green is fabulous and so is the Bone. You'lle spare precious time and get an homogenous result easily -Alternate greenwing/Deathwing/ravenwing painting, painting ALL deathwing in a row is a VERY bad idea  -Always have the basic colours for highlights, If you use a mix, then prepare the mix and keep it in a pot. NEVER prepare the mix each time. -Don't make LR in bone... I've given up after the 2ned one ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225334-my-long-path-to-redemption-starts-here/#findComment-2696862 Share on other sites

Tanhausen
I agree: airbrush should be your friend. And although building is important, give it at least a primer and the base colour... that requires no significante skill and makes a HUGE difference. Brother Kovash
-Always have the basic colours for highlights, If you use a mix, then prepare the mix and keep it in a pot. NEVER prepare the mix each time. I can't stress this point enough for the mix. I'm just about to finish painting my 15th DW terminator, and mixing the paints week after week lead to a lot of waste. Find an empty container with a top, and mix the paints in there. As long as you're using the mix consistently, it won't dry up. If it does, add a little water and stir it up. Also, best of luck with all the building. If you could, at least show some pics of what you have built. Grand Master Neo
or even thin it out with dettol multi-surface cleanser. mentioned it in a couple of threads. a guy i was in uni with was doing a chemistry degree and swears blind that ithas the perfect chemical makeup to thin the paints and still make them stick as if you hadn't thinned them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225334-my-long-path-to-redemption-starts-here/#findComment-2698132 Share on other sites
Tanhausen
I use windowcleaner as my thinner (pure, out of the bottle) and it works wonders, both for the AB and the conventional brush. Just remember to have 2 glasses: one with water another with the WC...you don't want to lick the windowcleaner :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225334-my-long-path-to-redemption-starts-here/#findComment-2698745 Share on other sites

I just never seemed to have the spare time needed for so many coats and highlights, what with two small kids running round etc. Thanks for the tips guys, I'd like to do this army the best I can ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225334-my-long-path-to-redemption-starts-here/#findComment-2698813 Share on other sites

Brother Baphomet
The new Grey knight Terminator box looks as though it would be great for making terminator HQs for a DW army :) There's certainly some nice bits in there that's for sure. Might think about getting some in the future - you never know, they might do a DA termy box when they get updated ;) Here's what I've built so far... http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/cythron/Dark%20Angels/DA2.jpg Three drop pods, four Razorbacks, two RW bike squads and Landspeeders, started work on two Land Raiders and Dreads, started on my Assault Termys. Also on the table are the AoBR models. I've ordered some Army Painter sprays so I'm just waiting for them to arrive before I start painting. Do you think I should start a seperate log for my progress instead of resurrecting this thread every time? Tanhausen
Its ok to update your thread  What you do need is a cleaner table and focus on 1 kind of model at a time...or youll end up with a huge collection of unfinished models and tons of bits that you dont know where they belong...and wont finde the ones you need. A clean desk and properly stored sprues and bits and WIP is quite an important thing: makes your life soooo much easier. Brother Baphomet
Well I haven't updated this for a while, but I have been busy. I ordered some more stuff, mainly for the upcoming Apocalypse game... http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/cythron/Dark%20Angels/DA3.jpg Two more Vindicators for the Line Breaker Squad A Baneblade (to make a Fellblade) A Razorback (to make a Damocles Rhino) Another Land Raider Crusader Don't think I need much more now - maybe another tactical box, three more drop pods (to convert into Deathstorms) - and I'd love to get a Caestus Assault Ram at some point. Haven't really done much work on my DA as I had to concentrate on finishing off some Eldar for a battle. Here's an example of my painting 'skills'. I paint them to look half decent on the tabletop, not to win any Golden Demon awards as I don't really get the time to go into mega highlighting etc... ++ Removed image of foul xenos as per forum rules. I. ++ And here's a shot of the work I've done on the Baneblade so far... http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f254/cythron/Dark%20Angels/DA5.jpg Those Army Painter sprays are a real boon! Thanks for the advice folks :) To top it all off, I've been making some ruined buildings this week - didn't realise just how little terrain I've actually got made up! Chapter Master Ignis Domus
If you've got a bastion box, the antenna array thatcomes with it fits perfectly into the Razorback's top hatch, making an excellent Damocles. And I would avoid posting xenos pictures. Doom may/will follow. I've got a few of those spare, so that was my initial thinking. When I put one on one of my existing Razorbacks I thought it looked a little too elaborate (and tall!) for a Rhino trying to hide in cover in the thick of battle, so I've decided to go with a few parts from the squadron upgrade sprue. The eagle shaped radar looks quite good on it ^_^ I would avoid posting xenos pictures. Doom may/will follow. Heh, I did wonder about that! I'll go and purge myself asap...
