High Shine Metallics

Recommended Posts

So i saw these online

http://www.alclad2.com/finishes/highshine.html

and i was wondering if they might work on my new grey knights. i like the idea of a proper mirror shine metallic on them, like real armour.

however i don't know if they would actually work, might it be over powering?

has anyone used it before.

There is also this:

the holomatic spectral chrome one. this would look like metal armor with a oil spill on them, might help them look pretty mystical etc, maybe would be good for the ghost knights or accents on paladins etc.

any help on these would be great

Having used Alclad numerous times on many models I think I can safely say that I don't think it will give you what your looking for.....It does exactly what it says it does, makes things look metallic. When you look at metal, it is very mono-chromatic, meaning there is not a lot of shading and highlighting, this is somewhat contrary to the mini-painting world in that many times the shades and highlighting are often exaggerated. Perhaps if you started w/ one of the darker colors like magnesium, then using a airbrush hit the highlights w/ polished aluminum it might work, but in the end I think it would look too monochromatic on a mini.

A word of advice if you try it, use a respirator when spraying Alclad, it is very nasty stuff, also, DO NOT use a flat primer, you will be extremely unhappy w/ the results, instead use a high gloss paint, and ensure that the surface is a smooth as possible, every surface flaw will show with this paint.
