Lord Lee
Hello fellow brothers and sisters of the Fang Can you tell me about the Lost Companies in reguards to the background? Are there units or equipment that I should avoid including in a Lost Company force? Can I paint them in any color or would the force keep a mostly Space Wolf scheme? Thank you in advance. Kalamadea
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...showarticle=178 Depends entirely on what your fluff is (read: the more in-depth, original, and valid, the better). Are you a lost company becuase your strike cruiser was lost in the warp so long they were thought destroyed by the chapter? Are you a apart of the 13 company coming back into contact after the eye of terror? Are you a rengade great company, or just off on your own becuase the wolf lord thinks it's his best option for (at least what he thinks is) a darn good reason? Without knowing a bit on what you're planning it's impossible to say what units would be limited (or preferred). For paint it's similar, if they're still considering themselves to be actual Space Wolves but adopting a differant paint scheme, there'd better be some good reasoning behind it. Tthat said, paint your army however you wish, they're your models. Fluff can justify about anything, if written well enough. My advice is to decide on a story for your company and characters, always being mindful of the current and established fluff. Never make your characters better/stronger/more powerful/smarter than the established characters, it seams like it would be interesting but it's actually far from it. Tie your army in to established characters and armies, definately don't always have them winning. Flaws make stuff interesting, a Wolf Lord who's bitter becuase Logan Grimnar brought in suport when the Lord thought his company could handle it just fine on their own is standard but good seed for a breakaway or somesuch if thats what you want. Wounded pride is always a good motivator. Borrow ideas from other scources, but modify them to be unique, take aspects of characters and events but rewrite them to be almost unrecognizable to the original, don't cut and paste changeing a name here or their. They don't have to be short stories (though that is cool) but a good in-depth army overview should be writen, preferrably with cool pictures and stuff. And most importantly, fully realize the army in it's entirety. Don't half-arse it. Go big or go home. Make the models match whatever fluff you come up with, and make sure it's not just some weak, lame rehash of what already exists. 40k has a lot of awesome established fluff already and there's nothing wrong with breaking from the mold, just have a well thought out reason for why.
